Amazing place

I never write reviews but after reading such poor reviews I thought I should share our experience. We loved our stay here and wished we’d booked for longer! We stayed in one of the pool houses, we were upgraded on arrival- absolutely perfect for us (2 adults, 3 kids) so clean, air con was fab and beds very comfortable. I used the app to ask for anything we needed and they brought it straight away. All the bars are excellent, they have everything! Fantasy bar probably one of the nicest and a plus for us being right by our room. We found all staff very helpful and friendly. Location is great, bus stop right outside too and plenty of shops outside hotel. The Mexican restaurant is amazing! Snack bar in the day is great too, plenty of choice. I’d say the main restaurant was pretty good as they’re definitely trying to cater for everyone , although very busy at times. Noodle bar and croissants during the day and a patisserie, ice creams and sweet carts at night too. There’s good food, kids club, slides, access to LOL, a choice of pools, good drinks, friendly staff, great location and nice clean rooms - we really couldn’t ask for anything more! Don’t let the bad reviews put you off! We would stay here again.

Mediocrity at it's finest

!!!LONG REVIEW WARNING!!! TLDR: pick a different resort for the money they are charging you, unless you travel with kids. If you're with kids - it's great time for them and sort of okay time for you. To start off I would like to talk about why have I picked this hotel. Never been to Turkey, probably won't go again, but those are my personal reasons and have nothing to do with this hotel. So Turkey has, I belive, the biggest choice of 5* star resorts in Europe. So me, a person going for the first time, it would be logical not to gamble and instead go to a chain hotel, prefferably international one. It's like going to Hiltons, Radissons, BestWesterns etc - you just know what you are going to get, no surprises. Hence, I picked Rixos - 20+ hotels, 8 countries, bla bla bla. Turns out - it is mediocrity at it's finest. Let's begin with the hotel itself. The territory is humongous, so be prepared to have long walks if you are after anything. Living in the main building is at least 500m to any necessary amenity - bar, pool or restaraunts. Unless you take the passages through the building itself that are not marked at all, filled with markings for no longer existing stuff like 'restaraunts' that have laundries in them or closed doors. It is a real maze, but if you're lucky and have an in-built GPS then you can save a lot of time. The rooms are of a good size, but a bit outdated - very few power sockets and I've heard stories of poor air conditioning in some. If you pick the 'sea view' option be prepared that it is going to be either 'side sea view' or 'no sea view' due to overgrown trees. I believe you should be able to see the water only if you are placed on the 6th floor or above. Outside of your room and inside the building it's rough - almost no air conditioning and poorly planned floors with steps everywhere so be prepared to to lift things like carry-ons and trolleys over them. Same applies to restaraunts and bars - fresh air is almost non-existent so it is an actual sweat. The only bar that has good seats, good aircon and has those seats available(a bit more on that later on) is the Sports Bar but be prepared that is a difficult quest to find it. Maybe that is the reason for it not being overcrowded and cool. Now let's talk about the food... Well, it sucks. Firstly, you get only one a-la-carte restaraunt for the 7 days you are staying which is, in my opinion, an absolute rip-off since 99% of resorts would give you at least two. And even then it is an actual quest against the time to make a reservation for the same day straight after the clock hits 8am(even for the ones you have to pay for) or you will be late and all of them will be overbooked. The food itself is absolutely bland. I mean, there will be no food poisoning and the allergens are quite clearly stated, but it is just not good. It gets you going, but nowhere near enjoyable. I was debating on whether to call this review '50 shades of pasta with chicken' since it defines the dining. At lunch and dinner you will have a choice of 10 pastas and 5-7-10 types of chicken to choose from, a bit of beef, one day we had lamb and that's that. If you happen to love seafood(which is plenty in the sea and Cyprus, which is just about 2.5 hours away by ferry) then in this hotel you get served frozen squid rings and salmon... also frozen of course, since its origin being in Norway. If you happen to be vegetarian then you will be able to live off one or two options that were available each day, but again - nothing fancy. Vegans will have a hard time since no meal on the 8 days I have spent there were marked suitable. Oh, and the a-la-carte Mexican restaraunt serves the same food that you can get in the common food areas. The most tragic part is that I have not eaten a kebab all week, but burgers and pizzas are aplenty. Now let's talk bars. It is probably the most positive thing in this review. There are plenty bars, with different music(no Turkish music though, why?) and atmosphere so just pick your poison. Beer is fine, wine and prosecco are bad, with spirits you have a choice of Jack, Chivas 12 and Black Label in whiskies and at least one in every remaining category. Beach and pools. The beach is nice and sandy, with a bit of small rocks(which is inevitable since the sand is poured over artificially), there is a quiet 'kids beach' with shallow waters next to the marina, while the wall of said marina covers it up from the waves(which are quite nonexistent to be frank, so maybe useful in autumn?), there are several piers that have signs 'do not jump' but everyone jumps, so that's okay I guess. There is a waterpark that work for 6 hours a day and plenty of pools. Do not even try to go to the main bar pools after 8am(more on that later on) and try to pick a more secluded one. My advice would be(if you are still going to this hotel, of course) is to direct yourself to the pool just outside of the sports bar. There is no pool bar but waiters on roller skates are aplenty so drinks are being delivered. Activities are mostly kids-centered so adults are left out. Of course, there is a variety of sports options to choose from - the gym, (aqua)aerobics, team games like football or volleyball, but outside of that there is not much to choose from. Yeah, you get your archery and air rifle shooting(5 shots each) and some dance lessons, but overall it is a bit depressing. THERE IS NO ANIMATION ANYWHERE IS SIGHT. Which is a massive bonus at least for me, so if you intend to lay down on your sunbed(good luck getting it though) and drinking pints all day - no one will interrupt you. Finally we are left with the two last categories, both including people. Let's start with the staff. Well, if you don't speak either Turkish or Russian - you are in big trouble. The bartenders will mostly understand your requests unless it's a 'extra creamy pina collada with mango'(an actual order I've overheard, that literally destroyed the mind of a young bartender that could only speak a few words of English). The housekeeping staff do not speak any English whatsoever so if you send them away when they come cleaning(which they do at completely random times, with no pattern in sight) - you will have to order housekeeping from the app since they will not come back. Reception does speak some English so you might be able to get your message across. So not too bad, eh? Well here comes the punchline: they could not possibly care less about you. If you have an issue at the bar - you bring it with the waitress, she sends you to the bartenders, they send you the security, while they send you to the reception who, in turn, send you back to the waiters. Hence, do not expect anything done and just help yourself out. Most importantly they will not do anything about reserving tables or sunbeds. So if you wake up early and go to the beach at 7am be prepared to see nearly all of the sunbeds already occupied by hats, towels or other rubbish. And to top it off - people. 50% is Russian, 30% Kazakh, 10% Turkish or Arabic and you, reading this in English, will probably be in the last 10%. There are hoards of people rushing everywhere, there is not enough place to fit everyone and the staff does not even try to direct the crowds, so you are on your own. The russian speaking people are rude and will try to converse with you all the time so speaking a rare language will make you uninteresting in their eyes since they can't tell what are you on about. So if you prefer not to draw attention then speak that rare language or, on the contrary, indulge with them in quarreling over the queue places, food or sunbends and fight them during breakfast. Aditionally, I must mention the kids club. Since I am myself childless I can't really share the experience, but the sheer amount of space and activities that they have must be worth for the adults to be coming there. All in all, I would say there must be hotels that are better for the money and you should probably go there.

Rixy club is exceptional, rest

Location and outbuildings are beautiful but this hotel is far from a 5 star... currently staying here on out holiday which i stupidly forked out over £8k, poorly air conditioned rooms, zero air conditioning in corridors and hall ways. Each night i have to pull the bed directly under the air con to try and feel any air conditioning but to little avail. Biggest pitfall Is the self serve restaurants each day we arrive we struggle to find a table, to then find one with leftovers all over the table from previous guests. We then proceed to wait until we need to move the plates ourselves to the next table with more additional left overs. To then eat off dirty table cloths and search for our own knives and forks. Drinks are only served, meaning unless you try to flag down a waiter your likely not to be served any drinks as you tend to be ignored most of the time. Although on multiple occasions I've flagged down a waiter they promise to return with drinks but to not return atall. Some guests thinks it's acceptable to jump the queue for food and push small children out of the way with they're plates. No organisation atall. To me the restaurant seems massively understaffed. The bar drinks are of high quality smirnoff, absolut etc. however if you ask for a cocktail instead of orange juice being used there's Fanta which drastically reduces the quality of the drink??? Why use good quality spirits to then use poor mixers, kind of counterintuitive. The kids club is brilliant and only factor that excels. If your looking for 5 star luxury go somewhere else as its not at the rixos sungate.

It couldn’t be dirtier

It was the dirtiest holiday of my life. Employees are generally great but no experience how to manage situations. I went to Alara restaurant and tried to grab some food.what I saw was shocking. People pick fruits by hand. They were just in the sea and they are wet. By those hands they were touching food. I asked a waiter to warn those people but he told me he has nothing to do because tourists don’t understand Finished ? Nope I saw a man in the restaurant touching grabbing his balls (I mean it) and then he picked fruits and some food by hand. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I showed him to an employee and he said he would take care of it but did nothing. Finished ? Nope. There was the Euro final. In lotus bar, there are number of tables to sit and watch. But again tourist conquered the tangles by putting their towels hours earlier than the kick off. 6-8 hours earlier. Two hours before the game I went to lotus to find a place and watch it with my kids. I sat a table. There were a few English young fellows with me. Suddenly a Russian man came and started talking loudly and he was really shouting to warn us to leave the table as his colleague had captured it 8 hours ago for 21 people. Young boys left the table and I told Russian tourist if he kept on shouting then there would be a big fight there. I called hotel management and talked to a lady about the situation. What she answered my wasn’t surprising for me. She has nothing to do. And I told her if she does nothing then I will fight these guys and there will be a big situation. And only after telling this I gues she talked to the management and they send a few security guy. I sat the table and nothing happened to me but I saw some other people were removed from their seats. When it touches the reputation hotel management sent security not for us for the safe of the people but it was for their reputation. For other things such as better hygiene, comfort of the people they have nothing to do Finished ? Nope We expanded our holiday for two more days because we were told that our kids are in the football tournament team. I said ok unintentionally just for the kids. After we expanded we were told that only one of the kids is in the team as a captain. Ok. On the match day the kid in the team played 97 seconds. No captainship. We didn’t ask for any guarantee that they will play but they didn’t have to give us commitments that they would. Of course, hotel has nothing to do :) Anyway, I ve been there 5 times in two years. Will I go again ? Not in the next 5 years plan. Don’t go there if you like cleanness, hygiene and a hotel that could try to resolve problems
