My choice when staying in Cologne

I make this hotel by home base in Cologne. The price is fair. The staff is friendly. Dorie at the reception was extra helpful and lovely. The extra large room is spacious and the bathtub is a plus if you like baths. But I've also stayed in the outer circle room on the 7th floor and enjoyed the nice view over roof tops and churches. The transportation is nearby and excellent, a three min walk to the Friesenplatz! Not too far from central station. And it is walking distance to shopping and many of the museums. Some of the best book stores are a few min. away. I haven't eaten at the restaurant so I can't comment but I like the view from the restaurant's 8th floor. I did try the sauna which is clean and pleasant and very hot.

What a fantastic hotel. A short walk from the centre of town, the hotel has plenty of bars and restaurants nearby, but that's not the attraction. Our room was comfortable, with everything we needed for a short stay, and a definite retro feel. The staff were great, the breakfast was outstanding and if you eat too much, you can always burn some calories with the running club, or relax in the sauna. The foyer is great, with a small shop and a couple of free games to entertain you, and a cafe etc if you fancy a snack. Overall, we loved it!

Good hotel for a weekend trip

Not your average hotel room – which is meant as a compliment, by the way. The entire hotel is decorated in retro style, including the rooms. It was very nice. The room was very spacious (we had an Extra Large room), with a beautiful and comfortable shower and bath. The hotel is within walking distance of various centres. Cologne Cathedral is a 10-minute walk away.

Excellent Christmas market base

My daughter and I stayed 3 nights to experience the Cologne Christmas markets. The hotel was in a peaceful area, easy walking to all the sites. Very comfy beds and one of the best hotel showers. The thoughtful loan of a quality tote bag was much appreciated. We also enjoyed the trio of hummus and cocktails on the 8th floor.

Would not stay here again

We booked a room that specifically said it had a double bed, but arrived to find two singles pushed together with two single doonas. They did replace it with proper double bedding the next day, but we shouldn’t have had to ask in the first place. The hotel advertises a bar and restaurant on the top floor. There’s no room service, which is fine, but when we went to the bar at 5pm on a Sunday, we were told there was a private function. So we tried the restaurant instead—completely empty, not a single person seated—and were told they were “fully booked” and to come back another day. The next morning we went to the hotel café and couldn’t find a single place to sit… not because it was busy with guests, but because people working there were taking up the tables. Location is average, customer service is basically non-existent, and while the rooms were clean, that’s the only positive thing I can say. I wouldn’t return and definitely wouldn’t recommend it.
