Wonderful Stay with Breathtaking Views over Istanbul

We spent a few days in Istanbul and stayed at Fairmont Quasar Istanbul, and overall we had a fantastic experience. The hotel offers absolutely incredible views over the city. Depending on your room and floor, you can look out over the European side, the Asian side, and even the Bosphorus. Since the hotel is a high-rise, the panoramic views are truly impressive — especially the light over the water and the sheer scale of Istanbul. The concierge team deserves special mention. They were extremely friendly, helpful, and professional — assisting with taxi arrangements, giving recommendations, and even communicating with people who didn’t speak English. For us, this level of support made a huge difference and really enhanced our stay. For security reasons, you pass through a detector at the entrance before entering the lobby and reception area, which felt reassuring and well organized. Check-in was smooth and efficient. We initially booked a standard double room with a water view, and later in the evening we were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary upgrade to a suite. The suite was beautiful, and we truly appreciated this gesture. We had a wonderful time staying here as a couple. We ordered room service once; the food was okay, but not outstanding — especially considering the price. However, this was a minor point compared to the overall experience. We visited Istanbul in November, and although it was quite windy, this actually worked in our favor. The city was much less crowded than usual, allowing us to enjoy sightseeing and excursions without the typical crowds. We also dined at the hotel’s in-house sushi restaurant, which we can 100% recommend. The sushi was extremely fresh and delicious, paired with an incredible view. We can imagine it being even more spectacular in summer when outdoor seating is available. The service there was excellent — the staff member who took care of us was incredibly kind and attentive. Unfortunately, we don’t remember his name, but we made sure to compliment him personally. The pool was closed during our stay, but given the cooler weather, this wasn’t an issue for us. Breakfast was another highlight: the service team was very proactive, offering juices and small items to try, making recommendations, and regularly checking in. The breakfast selection was excellent, with a great mix of Turkish specialties as well as familiar Western breakfast options like bread rolls, butter, and classic accompaniments. Overall, we had a truly lovely stay and would happily recommend this hotel — especially for couples looking for comfort, great service, and unforgettable views of Istanbul.

Good staff, not so good hotel

First things; the staff (ex Spa) were ok and the duty managers were responsive to addressing the issues as they arose - its the only reason I am giving a neutral 5/10 rather than what should be a 1/10. The concern, at least as a customer, is why the issues arise given the cost of staying at the property and why it took so long to address them. I travel with my family to Istanbul every year and have been doing so for the last 10+ years, some years twice a year. Although this was my first stay at the Fairmont, I have experienced many similar (5*/price point) properties in Istanbul and not had anywhere near the same issues. On check in I was told that we had been 'upgraded' and assigned rooms on the 32nd floor with great views. The views were indeed great, less great was that the showers were luke warm/warm on day 1 and were cold on day 2. Complained about the issue on the morning of day 2, was told at 6pm that evening that the issue could only be resolved by us moving rooms and we had been assigned 2 rooms on floor 10. Rushing to get two room / kids packed and moved at the same time as we were trying to leave for a 7.30pm dinner reservation. Not great, a plumbing issue can happen, but why does it take all day to tell us that we have to move. so wasnt best pleased. Day 1 rooms had not been made up and were only done after calling housekeeping at around 5pm. Was told that to have the rooms made up please hang the make up rooms sign on the door handle. Did that on day 2 and rooms still not made up, called at around 5/5.30pm and was told 'sorry sir, we have had an event in the hotel and that is the reason'.. So now we have two rooms on the 10th .. views not so great but the showers are hot. return from dinner, reading in the room before bed and the lights all go out. Ask my wife if she switched them off ... no she did not ... there is a problem with the light switch. Also the air conditioning is blowing hot air. Called to say there was a problem, air conditioning was fixed, the light issue however remained intermittent, but as it was late at this point I did not have the energy to follow up further and decided to leave it for the following day. Day 3: told the duty manager about the ongoing light issue affecting one of the two rooms as we were heading out for the day. The DM said they would monitor in the background and run some sort of diagnostics. Came back to the room that evening and the lights were working and the room had also been made up. Day 4: light issue was back -they have these fancy touch pad controllers which may be the reason- for me as the issue was affecting only one of the two rooms, I just decided to live with it for the remaining 2 nights I was at the hotel. Another point to note/raise: my wife and daughter wanted to book treatments in the Spa, they got in touch and were given a whatsapp number to use. My daughter was messaging asking for details of treatments and any special offers available. The communication left my daughter quite frustrated, however the issue arose when she sent the umpteenth message and received a response saying that she had a booking (evening before the day we were checking out) and that cancellation charges were applicable upto 100% of the cost. I checked the message history on her phone and at no point was a booking confirmed; I asked her to message the number to ask them to provide evidence of the booking which was being alleged and also shared the chat history with the front desk. The front desk called the spa and they apologised that it was a 'misunderstanding'. However if the issue had not crystallised in the way that it did and my wife/daughter had decided not to have the treatments at the hotel, the first I would have found out would be when checking out (and rushing to the airport) and at that point there would have been no opportunity to have the charges reversed. The gym is very good To sum up: Good staff (ex Spa), not so good hotel. If you are 'upgraded' to a high floor on arrival, be cautious. It may well be the 'upgrade' is parking you in problem rooms until you don't complain and then they rotate you to a lower floor Don't expect your room to be made up reliably and on time Your lights may switch themselves off, not great if you using the toilet at night. Be aware when communicating with the Spa. I assume it is outsourced and you may well be on the wrong end of a 'misunderstanding' and associated cancellation charges. In conclusion: at the price point, there are many many better properties in Istanbul.

This is my 6th or 7th stay at Fairmont Quasar and we will gladly revisit again in the future. Service and Cleanliness of the hotel is superb. During our 3 days stay restaurant manager Tanju, Burcu hostes and Emre waiter have been amazing. At our last breakfast they have organised a birthday surprise for my sister. We thank Tanju, Burcu and Emre a lot for their service and warm hospitality.
