I needed the room in the area for one night as I had a funeral nearby to attend. Check in was quick. Our room was clean and spacious, but decor a little tired. Had dinner in the hotel restaurant, not a huge menu but enough choice. Food was fine & reasonably priced. Breakfast was included in our room rate. Ate both meals in the conservatory area overlooking the garden. Nice big grounds to walk around after a long drive. I booked this hotel as the premier inn charged extra for breakfast & parking & wasn’t well situated. Comparing prices, they worked out about the same. Bruno on reception & Victoria in the restaurant were very pleasant members of staff, others maybe needed some more social skills! The whole place is in need of some real investment and it could be stunning.

Top notch details. Check in was great. Room was clean and warm. Dinner and breakfast was fantastic and spa was lovely and quiet. Highly recommend and have booked again through wowcher. Products were nice and bed was comfy. Beautiful grounds and plan to bring the dog next time

We have just returned from a weekend break at the Mercure Walton Hall Hotel and we have mixed feelings about the whole weekend. When booking the Hotel it looks like you will be staying in a grand Manor House but upon arrival at the Hotel we realised this was not the case. The main part of the Hotel is much more of a modern building and although it was comfortable and clean it was a bit mis-leading from the photographs when I done the original booking. Upon check in we gave our booking name - Holloway - to which the receptionist said 'Bailey'. I said no, it's 'Holloway', she then looked at her screen and said I don't have any bookings for Bailey! She then said she doesn't work on Reception normally but this was 3pm on a Saturday which must be a prime checking in time, so you should have a trained receptionist on hand. We upgraded our room for both nights but the receptionist said she couldn't do the 2 nights there and then and could only do the room upgrade for 1 night. This meant our keys didn't work the next day so we had to get reception to re-set the keys which wasn't too much of a hassle. The room was a very nice size and clean. We went for a walk around the grounds which are lovely and we located the Manor House at the bottom of the grounds - we went in there but it was deserted and seems such a waste as it is a beautiful building. In the evening we had a set meal in the Hotel Restaurant and overall the food was very nice. The only issue was we were being given our main meal when we were only half way through our starter so asked for the mains to be returned to the kitchen. The breakfast both mornings was very enjoyable and there was no issues with items not being available, and the service was good. We spent most of the day in the Leisure Centre and the staff there were very friendly and accommodating and the Spa treatments were very good. On the Sunday afternoon we had a Cream Tea which was included in our package. Again, this was nice but not fantastic, and if we were paying additional for it then we didn't think it was worth the money - it was £50 for a couple for a few sandwiches, 3 very small cakes and 2 scones each. We didn't even get a pot of coffee or tea, just a cup and saucer, and when I asked for a refill of coffee I didn't even get the saucer back. Getting drinks at the bar was sometimes a challenge as certain members of staff had no bar experience but were left on their own at the bar. I merely ordered a pint of Magners on draught and a Malibu and Coke and the server didn't have a clue what either was! Overall, we did have a nice relaxing weekend but the Hotel could be much better and if we stayed in the Manor House it would have been as we had expected.

My husband treated me to a night away after having some health issues recently and paid an extra £30 for an upgrade but it feels more like a downgrade. The room is very basic and tired with stains on the carpet, not what I expected for a spa hotel. Down the corridor there is a hole in the roof with water stains. I don’t think I will be returning, I will save my money and stay at a premier inn next time as the standards are much higher ☹️

The grounds are beautiful and the hotel itself is lovely, Staff were good. Restaurant food was nice but was pricey for what it was. Staff in there could do with a bit more training on fine dining. The rooms were spacious but quite plain. We had a terrible nights sleep, there’s a joining door to some of the rooms, locked obviously but doesn’t stop people in the other room trying it to see if it’s open. Quite unnerving when it’s at 10pm at night. We could hear the room next door so clearly because of the door, his alarm woke me up at 6am. Then after drifting back off to sleep we were woken up at 8am by a cleaner entering our room! Said she didn’t realise anyone was in here. The hotel was empty so I don’t understand why they’d put us right next to each other. Could be a great hotel but definitely needs improving. Going to the spa this morning but don’t have high hopes to be honest.
