We stay often at the Mercure when visiting family so about time we wrote a review! Staff at reception and throughout hotel are always friendly, welcoming and helpful. Great that the EV chargers are now installed. Room and beds comfortable, having choice of 2 pillows good, and having the chairs and table a bonus, one room was missing a table once but think that was a one off. Thank you to cleaning staff, room & bathrooms have always been spotless. We appreciate having the fridge and complementary waters a really nice touch. Bathroom good though I personally always miss a bath! The one issue has been the leaking that happens from the bottom of shower onto the floor and reaches the carpet area of the room - even when being ultra careful with shower. I have fed this back to staff so hopefully it can be sorted, it’s happened in more than one room. It would also be great to have more gluten free, veggie and healthy options for room service and lunches. Thanks to all and look forward to our next stay.

The Mercure is one of, if not Bridgwater's nicest (and more expensive) hotels. The rooms are great but sad to report it's a place where the service currently doesn't match the building. Stayed for 3 nights. Was asked whether I wanted the room servicing daily. (This is a throw back to COVID and I don't understand why hotels still use that as an excuse for not assuming a daily service TBH). I said I'd like it serviced daily (not new towels - just clean tea/coffee cups and and supplies and a made bed would be nice. It wasn't serviced on the first day so I mentioned it to reception who apologised and said it would be serviced the following day but it wasn't. Another apology made but no explanation and no housekeeping available once I got back to my room. I know it's a first world problem but this is purporting to be a first world hotel. Better service is available at the Premier Inn up the road sadly.

A very comfortable room on the Carnival route, so perfect for our stay. We booked a three night package since we were told this was the only option, However, we spoke with other residents who only stayed two nights, so some mixed messages. We were very satisfied with the room and it was serviced every day, but we found toe nail clippings, bits of crisps and nuts behind the side tables (I lost an item and had to move things to find it) and edges of the carpet, below the curtains and shelves in the bathroom needed more attention. Doesn’t the housekeep make random and regular checks? I did report this to reception. That said, the hotel was extremely busy but staff were helpful and attentive, particularly leading up to the Carnival, with recommended tickets for the stands and road closures etc. . A short walk to the centre of Bridgwater and with a bank of car chargers which made our stay that much easier. Recommended.

A comfortable and mostly clean hotel but the restaurant staff and toilets let it down. The reception, housekeeping, night staff and the bar staff were friendly and nice, shout out to the great, friendly and competent Canadian barman. We had a drink when we arrived and I asked the tall gent in the restaurant (maybe the manager or supervisor?) for a menu to have a look at and I was laughed at (was not impressed) and was told if I hadn’t booked already then I’d have very little chance to eat there, which is completely understandable yet still frustrating as a guest of the hotel. Yet every time we were in the bar (which was quite often over our 2 night stay) the restaurant was completely empty. It felt as though the staff didn’t want the restaurant to be busy and so turned people away to give them an easy life. The room was nice, small but more than adequate, the bed was comfortable and the shower was good. The toilets… the public toilets downstairs (for reception, bar and restaurant) were not checked regularly enough, no toilet paper, 2 ladies toilets out of use throughout stay and the men’s cubicle was blocked full of toilet waste throughout the whole stay and men just kept going on top of the waste, making a poo mountain! It was revolting, a health risk and certainly not what we expect from a Mercure!! The toilet in the bedroom also blocked while we were there, so I think the whole hotel has inadequate plumbing and this needs to be addressed, the housekeeper said it happens all the time. The hotel is centrally situated in Bridgwater with a open public carpark to the back with around 60-80 spaces, there is no height restriction but you do have to pay to park here overnight (pay at reception). The cooked breakfast items were cold on both days, and there was nothing to advertise that there was an option for freshly cooked poached eggs or anything else that had to offer. This morning when we went for breakfast no one was standing to greet the guests so we walked into the restaurant and was asked our room number by a scowling and unfriendly lady in black. The coffee was horrendous and undrinkable from a coffee machine and we had to go to a cafe up the road for a fresh coffee. There are a few cafes on the same street offering cheaper, fresh, tastier breakfasts with a good coffee so consider this rather than spending money on a cold breakfast with very unfriendly staff.

We cannot speak for the restaurant traffic when you visited but we do aim to make sure all guests have access to all of our amenities during their stay with us which is why we sent a pre-stay email with lots of information regarding the carnival weekend and how that would effect the service and timing of things over the weekend.. We apologise that there were issues with both public toilets not being checked regularly enough or having adequate supplies of toilet paper, we take this seriously and I have asked the Housekeeping manager to investigate this with the cleaner we had on duty in the evening as we expected the public to make use of our toilets during the carnival and thought we had planned for this.
