Honest reviews are very important for travellers. It is fair to say that Mercure North Melbourne is definitely not a 4.5 star as shown online across the hotel platforms. I stayed here over the weekend and to be honest I was disappointed with the facilities. When travelling you rely on Reviews vs prices for the accommodations. This place was definitely not what they show in the pics. From the carpark to the rooms it was outdated including the room setups. I paid for breakfast to be included, the breakfast was below average...hot dishes they had served out eg. bacon, baked beans the cannisters were not even lit so the "hot" food were not hot but stoned cold...My honest review would be the pic are very deceiving vs rates and services being offered or advertised.

4 star hotel awesome we thought as we have been to four other Mercure around Australia and loved them but what a disaster this one is! First off we had to pay for parking, instead of the key pass to get us in and out we only got one token to exit, so had to go back to the reception every time if we need one. The room check in time was 2pm, we got there at 2:45pm and room was still not ready waited 15 minutes to be put in a totally different layout room. Which was less than what we paid for. Walking into the room, it looks cleaned, tv only had four channels, the rest required internet which we could not connect. The bathroom was absolutely bloody disgusting, the floor was sticky, the door would not close and the handle was half off the door. There was mould all round the bath/shower and bloody hair on the bottom of the bath. The toilet had piss on it, and hairs around the toilet. We will never be coming back this place!

Room walls seemed paper-thin - I got woken up by people checking in late at night. Not fun when you're trying to sleep! The room really needs some updating. There was this weird smell everywhere, but the bathroom was the worst. Pretty sure the drains need a good clean because there was a really bad smell coming up from them. The shower was a nightmare - barely any water pressure (felt like I was showering under a dripping tap), and getting the right temperature was impossible. It was either burning hot or freezing cold. The only positive was that the sheets and towels were clean, but honestly, that's just basic hotel stuff. I was trying to do a quick express checkout this morning but ended up wasting time because: The express checkout box was weirdly placed right on the reception desk Had to squeeze through the long check-in/out queue just to find it The box was so hard to spot, I almost missed it What's the point of having "express" checkout if guests still need to wait in the same line as everyone else? You've got such a spacious lobby - why not put the box in an obvious spot away from the queue? Maybe near the elevators or by the exit? I've stayed at a few Mercure hotels before and this was by far the worst experience I've had with the brand. Really disappointed with my stay.

- ils sont très grossiers (vous dites un mot, ils vous en rendent deux ; vous dites deux, ils vous en rendent quatre) ; - ils posent beaucoup de questions personnelles, je me sentais mal à l'aise ; - fenêtres sales ; - il n'y avait pas de savon liquide dans la salle de bain, j'ai dû demander qu'on le remplisse.

Ik gebruikte dit hotel vanwege de nabijheid van Melbourne Uni. Foyer en personeel OK. De kamers hebben bevlekte vloerbedekking, vliegen schermen vallen van de ramen. Grootste probleem was het lawaai - sissend ventilatiesysteem de hele nacht. Geprijsd voor de foyer - niet de kamer.

Thank you for your feedback. Extensive works have been completed on our air conditionig system to solve the 'hissing' issue you have mentioned in your review. The second stage of refurbishment works which were postponed due to the GFC are slated to begin in September 2010 beginning with public area carpets. As part of this process each room will be given a minor facelift including fresh paint and detailing of all in-room items. Completion of works is expected by the end of 2010. We look forward to providing a revitalised product.
