We always stay at Mercure Charlestown when visiting Family in Newcastle. All the staff are friendly and obliging which makes our stay very pleasant. Rooms are being upgraded which we will be able to experience on our next stay. Breakfast was very good offering a good variety of choices.

Basic-very clean but don’t pay $$ for room rate or you won’t get any benefit. Food at dinner was excellent and pool

Positives-very clean, friendly and obliging staff, free parking at park the door, food at dinner-excellent! Accor membership discount used on food. Negatives-no lift, rooms are tired (no walk in bath-you step into bathtub for shower-dangerous for elderly or those with limited movement), Accor members DONT quite receive the same level of service as experienced at other Accor hotels (only 1 small bottle of water in room for 2 adults)-barista made coffee of a morning with breakfast was joy included (as an Accor platinum member I was advised it would be $4.50).

Only good thing is their staff!

I want to start by saying that Emily & Ryan at the front desk, are the saving graces for this place. This is the first of many trips we have coming up to this area and we won’t be staying here again. Initially, Emily found us a room at the last minute which was accommodating for our situation. The room smelt like fish and the television didn’t work. Emily came straight up and fixed it. Next, the amenities in our bathroom were empty. Emily again, fixed this. After two days, the room wasn’t smelling any better so Ryan was able to show us to another room which was great. The rooms are stale and need an upgrade, beds are uncomfortable. Fridge in room is ridiculously small. The only good thing to review here, are your front desk staff.

My children and I stayed overnight on 6 December 2022. We had a fabulous stay! The hotel was clean and airy, it smelt like fresh linen. The room was large, quiet and comfortable. The beds were super comfy, we all slept well. The bathroom was sparkling clean. We had dinner and breakfast in the dining room, both delicious. The staff were helpful and friendly, particularly Jake. My kids had a swim in the pool which they loved. No complaints, it was an easy and relaxed stay for a very reasonable price. Would stay again and whole heartedly recommend.

Customer service from the reservations and check in staff was great - both first class. It was the room and facilities that brought my opinion down. The foyer looks lovely and what I would expect from a Mercure, but the room was very average and there are no lifts. The room was big enough, but the walls and decor seemed tired. It seemed no better than a 3* motel room. The room is for 2, but they only provide one armchair in the room. The TV was tiny - would say no more than 32". No lifts which was hard trying to get my luggage up and down the stairs (yes I know this is written on the website, however I was hoping I might have got a ground floor room, but unfortunately did not). Buffet breakfast was pretty basic...didn't have the variety of what I was expecting from a Mercure and the sausages were not good (my daughter who loves sausages could not eat hers). All in all, it wasn't a bad stay, however I just didn't see it as value for money at over $200 per night for their lead in room type. I usually love the Mercure brand, but was disappointed with this one unfortunately.
