Disappointing stay - ideal if you love Westfield and train noise, but needs an upgrade. Even the sign on the building!

Very disappointing. So, so tired and dirty. Everything needs to be upgraded from the keys, to the carpet, to the crockery, linen and furniture. Housekeeping is not up to scratch with greasy glasses and plates.

Not your typical Sebel. Dated building

Not a typical Sebel! Location is great and convenient. Booked through the Accor app and chose breakfast only to find out at arrival they don’t have a buffet breakfast. Instead, they give you a breakfast bag which didn’t look very good for the price! The building is quite old and dated. The room was spacious but the bed and pillows weren’t comfortable at all. Aircon heater didn’t work well and it was a very cold night in an old building so it was very cold! Amenities were ok! Place could do with a good clean as well!

The only reason I didn’t do a joyful spin upon arrival was that I had just survived a 14-hour flight and was running solely on spite and airline peanuts. The peeling paint in the lobby should’ve been my first clue. Nothing quite says “welcome” like a wall shedding its skin. Sure, the property is old... but then again, so is The Plaza. The difference? The Plaza doesn’t look like it gave up on life in 1997. Let’s talk cleanliness, or rather, the absence of it. The bathroom came with a complimentary mold collection, the linens were fashionably stained, and the kitchen appliances were disgusting, caked with crusted food and filth. Meanwhile, the spa was broken, and the gym equipment seemed to be hanging on to its functionality by a thread and some duct tape. But hey, it wasn't all that bad, because I've been looking for a hotel room with a VHS player since 1995. To be fair, the location is excellent. Chatswood offers lots of dining options, and the Metro is nearby. The staff were genuinely kind and courteous, which made it all the more awkward that they work in what feels like the setting of a low-budget horror movie. They couldn't do much about the fact that the ownership has given up on maintaining the property. Bottom line: The owners need to stop cashing checks and start reinvesting in this place, preferably before someone accidentally gets tetanus from a doorknob. I won’t be back.

I expected so much more from a Sebel claiming to be 4 stars - I would give it 3 stars absolute maximum. The poor gent on the front counter struggled with us (along with the few customers in front of us) for at least 20 minutes each. We eventually went to our room with no instructions or information on the wifi. The rooms are from the 90s at best, including the bathrooms, furniture and technology. There is HDMI or streaming - but a VCR player !!! (but with no videos to play in it) There are scuffs all over the walls and the bathrooms were pretty dirty. There were mostly only sheer curtains in the lounge room (see my photo - that was all the coverage we could stretch it to). We don’t expect black out curtains - but something at least for evening privacy or to block the light. One of the pool towels had red stains all over it that looked like red wine that I can only hope had previously been washed. Overall - it was very dated and a little bit gross.

Will never stay here again

As a family we try to find places to stay that have a kitchen and laundry available, ideally a home away from home where we can feel relaxed and use as base from which we go and enjoy activities etc. The Sebel in Chatswood offers rooms with kitchens and laundry BUT I can only describe the experience as disgusting, the kitchen made us feel gross and impacted on us wanting to use and overall it just felt dirty so we didn't want to spend any material time there. Friendly front service staff and location don't come close to overcoming the other issues. This is nowhere near a 4.5-star hotel, I wish I knew how to request for a proper review to be completed as it needs to be lowered!
