Fairly basic accommodation but OK for a one night stay. Great location and amazing harbour views.

We had a room in P11 (the former second class precinct) that had an ensuite bathroom and was in the same block as the breakfast room. Our accommodation was in a large row of rooms that shared a common balcony that the front doors opened out onto. Hence there was not a great deal of privacy unless you kept the curtains closed (which also made it dark). The good sized room was minimally furnished with a queen sized bed (comfortable) that had a shelf and a wall mounted reading lamp on either side of it. There was also a bar fridge, kettle, tea and coffee making facilities, cups, glasses, a desk with one chair (why not two?? when a couple checks in) and a wall mounted TV. There was an alcove between the bedroom and the bathroom to store your bag on a luggage rack. The bathroom was large with a good-sized vanity. The shower (reasonable pressure) was in the bath. There were two cane armchairs and a small round cane coffee table on the common balcony outside each of the rooms. The balcony afforded sunning views across to Manly and the City. The historic site is spread over 33 hectares with buildings being located in different areas depending upon the old quarantine station's classifications of passengers as either First, Second or Third Class or whether they required isolation or a hospital. This means that there are a number of roads that criss cross the site and snake down the hill to the water that also double as excellent walking tracks. The are a good number of information boards that tell the history of the Quarantine Station. You cannot access the site by private car which means that you have to leave your car at a car park near the entrance (where reception is also located) and catch a shuttle vehicle to your room. Shuttles operate throughout the day to take people to and from reception or the dining areas. The room was clean and the included WIFI worked well. There was however a dearth of power points. Breakfast was a very good hot and cold buffet ($30 per head) and included juice, cereals, bread, pastries, condiments, scrambled eggs, bacon, grilled tomato, hash browns, baked beans etc, tea and coffee. There is also a reasonably good restaurant (the Boilerhouse Kitchen and Bar) on site. Staff in reception and at breakfast were friendly, informative and efficient.

Mixed.

Everything was fine and the room was quaint and very clean. It was not an expensive room but then we discovered the bathroom plug was broken. That was promptly tended to with a temporary plug which worked ok. But the hot water wasn’t working. So, kindly we were offered a new room. The new room was a bit of an upgrade with a balcony on the view side so that was good. The bath was perfect hot and lovely. Tucking early in to bed for a hike tomorrow, at about 9 pm a loud noise started up which sounds like a laundromat. I’m writing this review as I’m lying here wondering if the noise will ever stop tonight? It’s 935 and well, the sound has stopped, but I fear I am in the transition of the wash cycle and any minute now the rinse and spin is going to start up. A little bit less than impressed so far but we’ll see what the night brings. I have some Trinidadian about breakfast after reading other reviews, but I’ll update this tomorrow and keep you posted. Also on that note I felt better milk could be provided instead of the travel sized plastic mini portions of ugh provided. More tomorrow.

Best view of the city! Awesome Staff. Fantastic stay.

Staying on the harbour with picturesque views all the way to the city, whilst yet feeling like you're a million miles away! This is a truly breath-taking venue with lots to offer. There is no air con in rooms, and I am glad I came at a cooler time of year so this did not bother me. There are fans which allows air to circulate, and rooms are ventilated. The room is small, but when experiencing a heritage listed accommodation, this is to be expected. We received up upgrade upon arrival to a heritage room, which meant we had an ensuite within our room. Please know if booking a standard room, the ensuite is accessed outside of your room. This was clear to us prior to booking, but I have seen negative comments in relation to this. I was happy enough to have booked a room which required us to use an exterior ensuite. This is still undercover and close to your room, so again, I did not find it a problem. The views, the history and the staff are just wonderful. Leave your car at reception and let the shuttle and staff take are of the rest. The private beach is beautiful and clean, protected and lovely to paddle in. The restaurant was wonderful! Staff were incredible and the food was excellent. Could not speak more highly of the staff! Absolutely lovely. Only downside is that I booked on an evening when the ghost-tour wasn't running. Would have loved to have done that - but I will be back. Be warned of the bush turkeys - they will wander the verandah's in search for food or an open room!

Great for a bit of time out.

The harbour views were stunning and the wildlife was most entertaining. Loved the history of the place and enjoyed that early morning swim at our private beach. We stayed in the old nurses quarters which, whilst interesting, was really let down by the lack of air con.

Great relaxing stay

My husband and I stayed in a Heritage Harbourside room. Great views, very relaxing and quiet stay. We were visited by bush turkeys and a possum whilst we enjoyed the views on the verandah. Room had everything we needed and bed was comfy for a restful nights sleep. We walked around the grounds and went down to the waterfront. Great shuttle service runs every 10 minutes so you don't have to walk up hills or drag luggage everywhere. Staff very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.
