Visited here for a couple of nights, from the outside it doesn’t look much but upon stepping inside it was lovely , greeted by lovely staff and promptly checked in. Room was lovely, beds comfy and all clean. Room was a little hot at night. We only ate breakfast here and that was nice, plenty of options. My only gripe here is it ends 9.30 in the week which is early if you are away for a break. Other than that I’d highly recommend a stay here

Awful experience from reception staff

Horrendous recent 'experience' at the Mecure Hotel. Two rooms booked in September for my partners 30th birthday in October. Arrived to be told the rooms had been cancelled, no explanation/reason/who by (we still had confirmation of booking via email and no email to explain the room had been cancelled). No apology/empathy from reception staff, we were just shown a screen showing its cancelled and that there were no rooms available either. We explained we had travelled 2.5 hours and definitely had not cancelled it ourselves, all to be given a written email address of the 'CEO' to complain to and sent on our way. This resulted in us urgently finding two rooms for the night elsewhere and paying double to what we expected, and to my surprise.... no response from the emailed complaint. Definitely don't recommend, how could you trust 'a booked room' here again?

Lovely place to stay

Stayed here for a couple of nights on a Virgin Experience voucher. Hotel is lovely. Arrived just under an hour before check in time but a room was available due to people leaving early that morning so didn’t have to wait until 3pm. The room is a little out dated but was clean and comfortable and perfectly adequate - really don’t understand why some guests take photos of a rough bit of sealant or a piece of furniture not being perfect - I’m just happy that hotels like this are still in business in the current financial climate. We had dinner in the restaurant in both evenings. This was very reasonably priced and the food was lovely. Would definitely recommend booking a reservation. Breakfast was also lovely - so much choice! There was juices/tea/coffee, cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurt, pastries, full English breakfast items that you help yourself to - fried and scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, tomato, beans, hash browns, mushrooms, black pudding and toast. I was gobsmacked to read another review on here saying after a while breakfast got boring and bland - not sure what else they could have possibly expected! The staff were all helpful and friendly and clearly work very hard in all parts of the hotel. We will definitely return next time we are visiting York.

One of the best Mercures.

Stayed here for 1 night on our way to Newcastle. We often stay in Mercure hotels and they do vary a lot. This one is one of the best. Lovely room with matching yew furniture but the best thing was the dining room. Very smart decor and lovely waiting staff. Nothing too much trouble and helpful but not obtrusive. Food was great and would definitely stay again pity it was only one night. 100 per cent better we then travelled on to in north east. Thank you for a good stay to all staff.

Stayed on business and had a great experience. Warm friendly check in from a very knowledgeable gentleman. Arrival to the room my expectations were exceeded it was clean well equipped with chocolates and a welcome note on the bed! a lovely touch. Had a Great nights sleep bed so comfy and such a quiet location. The grounds are just superb. Throughout my stay the staff were all fantastic nothing was too much trouble! great customer service. A large choice at Breakfast and the food just excellent. I would highly recommend. Hope to visit again soon! Thanks for a great stay! Karen
