I always stay at this hotel when I am in Southampton. The staff are really good from the receptionists through to housekeeping. The hotel and rooms are always spotlessly clean.

our room had clean sheets and a comfy bed that's the only positive thing I can say, the carpet was stained, lights by the bed battered and not fixed to the wall straight, desk lamp didn't work, ceiling light is filthy, bathroom is very basic, struggled to fit under the shower and get consistent water temperature, basic breakfast with no choice of scrambled or poached eggs, coffee in cardboard cups I know things are difficult at the moment but have stayed in two other hotels since lockdown and they managed a far better breakfast service, it was very quiet so why not put guests that are staying in the best rooms unless this was one of the better rooms! This was the first time we've stayed at a Mecure hotel and could well be our last

We didn't find the customer care up to the mark. Apart from that everything was good. Heating wasn't turned on, there were no dental kits, No spare towels or extra pillows in the room. Most importantly the night staff behaviour was rude! I suggest if you can work on customer care then your ratings would go up.

Although the Mercure Southampton Dolphin Hotel currently shows its age because of a lack of recent maintenance and upgrading, it is a great City Centre location which promotes a comfortable and comforting (in light of the Covid-19 restrictions) base from which to explore all that Southampton has to offer. All areas, including our room and the bar and restaurant were immaculately clean and the staff were always well turned out, courteous and very helpful. Although the Covid-19 regulations were always fully complied with, this didn't detract from the excellent services provided by the staff; from Reception to room services and especially the hearty cooked breakfasts, which were served most efficiently and with good humour by the morning staff. The only downside to our visit (hence a score of 8 rather than 10) concerned the large sash window in the room we occupied. Firstly it was covered in an opaque film- hence no external view. Secondly, the top window could not be closed - a four inch gap at the top meant that the annoying hum from external machinery (perhaps acu/ventilation?) pervaded the room most of the time.

Staff friendly, rooms clean/tidy and as advertised. Good location for Southampton high street. Very covid conscious! Only comment would be with the breakfast, the food was exceptional but you couldn’t go and get your continental (understandable during covid), but the waitress was quick to disappear after the full English had arrived so I couldn’t get any toast with my full English. That being the only comment meant that I had a good stay, fully recommend!

Staff friendly and helpful, willing to help at all times, pizza was nice, would have been nice if bottle of wine was in room on arrival, we never got it in the end.the room was clean and bed comfortable, but could do with an up date, desk very worn and had chips in the legs, carpet looked worn and dirty, the shower head was dirty and there was a dirty hand towel in the bathroom. Kettle had a bit of limes cake in it! Breakfast was ok, would have been nice if theCorssants were fresh and warm.

Well located, basic facilities

On the whole we had a good stay, except for the basic facilities. Partly due to current restrictions, but also the room looked tired with a squeaky bed and curtains and nets falling off their runners. Also, we left an wash bag behind and after numerous phone calls (unanswered) and emails direct to the hotel we still have had no response.

Well thought out approach to current guidelines. Room was lovely and very clean. Shower was the most powerful I have used in a long time. Fantastic to look around and learn the history of the building. Staff polite and helpful. Would definitely recommend and look forward to my next stay.

The room was in such disrepair. Couldn't swing a cat as the room was so small and the bed was tight against the wall. The bath was Bradley stained and the woodwork was in need of sanding and repainting. The second room was a but bigger but still the same conditions. Definitely will not be going back.

This most certainly isn’t a bash at the overall mecure brand as I often use them and have no bad words to say. However this hotel in the chain was massively understaffed to the point that the recommend to use WhatsApp to order room service to reduce movement around the hotel but a simple drinks order took over an hour and a half before I had to go down to the bar to place the same order but due to shortage in staff had to ring the receptionist for her to appear and serve the drinks. So overall lack of staff to provide for the hotel. Also a lack of adhesive in the bath made it a nightmare and caused a serious accident of myself falling in the bath causing very bad bruising down one side

We have stayed at this hotel many times,but unfortunately this was not the best of experiences. I fully realize the problems with covid but one girl on reception and trying to serve in the bar meant many people waiting at reception to book in(some without face coverings). Our room was as always very clean and the staff are lovely but I feel they are under a lot of pressure.
