There are a few genuinely positive aspects to highlight about this hotel. The view from our room is absolutely stunning, the housekeeping staff are exceptionally pleasant and hardworking, and the beds are remarkably comfortable—I haven’t slept this well in years. Unfortunately, these are the only strong points of our stay so far. The damage deposit is €400, not €250 as stated in the “Important and Legal Information” section on the Booking.com app. This discrepancy should not happen in a five-star establishment. The hotel also offers very few facilities considering its price point and advertised rating. Beyond a small entrance lobby, a restaurant, a bar, and a compact gym, there is little available for guests. To make matters worse, tonight the restaurant is closed for a private event, and the already small lobby has been turned into a coat-check area. As a result, we are unable to use the lobby to relax or dine in the hotel restaurant. Not informing guests of such disruptions in advance is, in my opinion, extremely poor form—particularly in a hotel that presents itself as upscale. Based on our experience so far, the hotel falls far short of expectations. I do not intend to return. Maria Ferreira

I had a great experience at this hotel. Service was excellent, from check-in to check-out. The room was large, comfortable, and clean. The location is very convenient. The complimentary water (sparkling and flat) is a nice touch. Parking is convenient. The airport bus stops in front. It is a short walk to Old Town. Public transit is free. I would definitely stay here again.

Lovely hotel with helpful friendly staff. We were able to check in early and got a room upgrade to a room with a view (no extra cost). Easy access to Grund and old town. Huge comfy bed and great shower. Quiet room and blackout curtains. Free soft drinks in mini bar and a coffee machine in the room.

The Sofitel Le Grand Ducal is an exceptionally good hotel, one of the best (if not the best) we have ever stayed in. I chose it for two reasons. It is convenient for both the “Ville-Haute” and Grund parts of Luxembourg city and it’s only a ten minute walk to the station. The building is modern and very tastefully decorated. Every public area of the hotel is clean and airy with the star attraction of the hotel being the facilities on the eighth floor. The bar and restaurant (both excellent) have commanding views of the city. I doubt there is anywhere else in the city that can offer this level of comfort, quality and view. Prices in the bar and restaurant may seem a little on the high side but they are in line with other high class establishments in the city. The view, the quality of the food and drink on offer (along with the superb service) and you get a true five star experience from within the hotel. Our room (219) was without doubt the most spacious we have ever stayed in. We booked a Junior Suite but on arrival we were offered a free upgrade to a Prestige (thank you Fernando?) which was just wonderful. I won’t list all the wonderful amenities it had but it “ticked” all the boxes in terms of style, comfort - and the space? Simply incredible. The staff at this Sofitel were all extremely friendly and helpful. On registration (noting we were here for a week) a number of ideas were offered as to what to do during our stay. One of these was a day trip to Metz in France (45 minutes by train) which proved to be just fabulous. The cathedral at Metz is a wonder (we are Gothic architecture aficionados). Another example of staff efficiency came after we reported that our bathroom sink was blocked. These things happen, no hotel is immune from plumbing “hiccups”. It is how these issues are dealt with that is the critical point and returning to our room after a day out - the problem was resolved. You can’t ask for more. We enjoyed our stay in Luxembourg so much, we have decided to return when the weather is warmer (so many outdoor tables that would be lovely in summer) and we will definitely be staying at the Grand Ducal again.
