Disappointing stay

Rooms were disappointing. Aircon did not work well, had to set aircon at 29oC to get warmth. Breakfast offer was poor in range and quality. Staff had language problems but were pleasant in trying. Room rate was too high for room quality offered. Would not recommend this property to friends.

Its been sometime since staying at the this hotel and its always been my Canberra accommodation when I'm in town. The Hotel has charm and I understand that. But, the rooms are in desperate need of a revamp, the bed has seen better days. The shower was full of mould and my sheets had hard black balls throughout them. When I requested more pillows it seems as though they didn't want to assist me. In saying that I did receive my extra pillows but it took some convincing. I never received my usual gold member welcome gift and that was disappointing. Over all this visit was a little average.

Comfortable Historic building hotel

Reception was very friendly, making sure we know the building layout and where we could have breakfast and where the bistro is. No complaints about the room, minor quible is that we could not get the (seemingly new) TV to work properly, always one or two apps crashed.

Its what happens when things don't go to plan

We love the Mecure Canberra, and this is why. The front of office staff were sincerely honest about the night time (after hours) menu: very limited choice and you might be better organising an uber eats delivery. We risked it on the first night. Back late, very late. Very hungry. And yes, we should have taken their advice - very average. We were in the same predicament on the second night. But this time the front office staff took our order from their superb (normal hours) dining menu from the in-house pub/restaurant and had the meals prepared just before 'last orders' and had it delivered to the front office. As we were on our way back to the hotel we contacted the front office and they reheated our meals and had them ready in our room on arrival. And to our surprise, they apologised for the poor meal the night before, and gave us a complimentary bottle of wine as part of their apology. It is when things don't go to plan and what happens next is the real test. The Mecure Canberra initiated and overcame our predicament and went beyond our expectation. This is the second time we have stayed there. And we will stay there again.

Hotel and loyalty benefits decline...

Have been a regular guest at this property for some years and as an Accor Platinum member, had enjoyed loyalty benefits including free minibar and a nice welcome amenity on arrival. This visit was quite disappointing in terms of loyalty benefits. No room upgrade despite other room categories being available. No welcome amenity. No minibar provided in any rooms let alone that being complimentary as a platinum member. Removing the minibar items was suggested as a means to reduce COVID touch points. However - breakfasts at the hotel were a self serve buffet (all guests using the same tongs, serving spoons etc). A fridge was provided in the reception area where guests were able to obtain water (complimentary for platinum members). Again, the fridge door becoming a significant COVID touch point - more so than items in a minibar would have been. The rooms are dated and overdue for a refresh - hallways and common area floors / carpets / furniture is dirty and aged...but most importantly...our room was not serviced on one day of our stay. We waited until 4pm to report this to management at which time we were told that the room cleaning staff had finished for the day. A staff member did offer to bring fresh towels. This is not the level of service that should be offered at an Accor property - let alone to loyalty members! Thankfully all staff we encountered during the several nights stay were friendly and helpful (as far as they could be). Essentially the hotel is in serious decline and there is no longer an attraction to stay because of the to extras that were previously provided to high level loyalty members. If this is indicative of Accor's means to deal with difficulties associated with COVID (reduction of services to loyal members and letting property standards fall)...then it is time to look at another hotel chain loyalty program.

We have stayed here many times. It is very well placed and has beautiful gardens. We were again welcomed back in a friendly, efficient and professional manner. Any questions we had were pleasantly responded to in a timely manner. It was excellent to see the return of the buffet breakfast and particular mention should be made of the attending staff member (ex WA) who was pleasant, welcoming and highly efficient. Great job. Lockdown Stay

Canberra lockdown and a move to Queensland sent us into a spin. With no furniture, no car and our animals being sent ahead, left us with no where to live whilst we waited for the elusive border pass for us to travel. The manager and staff at the Mercure welcomed us and looked after us really well with friendly efficient service for the 2 weeks we had to wait . No request was too hard.

Having to visit Canberra on a regular basis becomes almost routine but we always look forward to our stay at the Mecure. The staff are fantastic, Chris, Lyn, Caitlin, Dyshna (the Indian lass who runs the bar) are all excellent, just to name a few. We always ask for a room away from families with children after several unfortunate sleepless nights so it’s all good now. We would highly recommend the Mecure.

Incompetence at every point

Staff were polite but totally incompetent. Our booking was messed up in every way possible. Wrong bedding configuration. Package included breakfast but no record of this. Rang reception and was given details of the restaurant opening time etc for dinner - but they didn’t mention the restaurant was closed for Covid and the food was served in the bar, which is absolutely putrid. Buffet breakfast had to be served by the staff due to Covid - the 2 staff working were fantastic but they needed another 3-4 staff to service the queues in a timely manner. The list went on. The room was nice but the experience was a disappointment.

The property is very tired and in need of refurbishment. The staff were not knowledgeable about the area and/or about the historical sites to visit. When asked if there were any places to dine in the area apart from the Mercure bistro and restaurant I was told no and yet I was only three to four blocks from Canberra Central. Bistro and restaurant have absolutely no atmosphere. Bathroom needed better cleaning and furniture and fittings old and tired looking. Certainly not a four star property and very overpriced for what you get.

A 4 day break in Canberra

We stayed at the Mercure Canberra for 4 days with our dog! We were surprised to find the hotel is dog-friendly and we and the dog were made to feel very welcome. During our stay we saw other guests with dogs too. The major asset of the property is the staff who were unfailingly friendly, courteous and helpful -- take a bow Lukas!! The building dates back to 1921 and a different era. It is still a lovely old building but is badly in need of a freshen up. That said, the garden courtyard is a nice oasis away from traffic. Maybe the hotel could make more of the terrace. Our room had it's own little back yard where our little dog could stretch her legs and I would encourage the hotel to ask guests to pick up after their animals and have a way of disposing of the bags. Altogether a very pleasant stay made so much better by having our little dog with us rather than in a kennel!

Quiet,easy access,comfy beds

Quiet area and good location with easy access to the city. The room is big and furnished with all our needs. The bed is very comfortable and better than most other hotels I have ever been stayed. The food is not as good as we expected.

We were very satisfied with our stay which was booked well in advance. Although we would have preferred a room in the newer downstairs section we had plenty of room and were comfortable and with good assistance with our luggage there were no problems. The meal arrangements for us and our guests on one occasion were excellent. In particular the early morning breakfast in our room organised the night before and delivered by Oala (not sure if that is her right name)was most welcome and enabled us to get to the early morning start of the RAAF Event. Thank you to all staff.

Central Location to major attractions in Canberra

An old “Victorian - English “ style but is neat and clean. It has all the 4 star amenities including free wifi. Ample parking at the back. Our room size has plenty of room to move around even with the King double bed and the standard bedside tables, desk, cupboards. Bed is comfortable but I should have brought our pillows. Their pillows are too soft and low even though there are four to choose from. Hospitality staff are friendly, meals are reasonably priced but can’t go wrong with their nightly specials. All the major attractions and CBD are within walking distance eg about 15 minutes to War Memorial, about 30 minutes to Parliament House via Lake Burly Griffin. We only use our car to drive to Chinatown at Dickson and to Mount Ainsile Lookout over our 3 days and 4 nights stay. I fully recommend this Mercure Canberra for its location, the old style “English “ courtyard, friendly staff.

From the moment you walk in the front door your greeted with a smile, all the staff are super friendly and always there to help. The room ( Loft apartment) was very clean and very spacious, the shower was hot and strong.:)

Very Pet Friendly

This is the go to pet friendly accommodation in Canberra for us. Its an easy walk to shopping precincts and close to local interest locations. Our dog has access to most parts of the venue and its own run area outside our room. Most importantly the reception staff are very welcoming and helpful from the initial booking to our check out.

Whenever we get to Canberra, we make sure we stay at Mecure Canberra. From the moment we arrive at reception the ambience and vibrancy of the staff overwhelm us. The rooms are spacious, some may say they are outdated, but I love the old style layout of the hotel. The restaurant and bar offer a great variety of food and liquid refreshments, parking is no problem either,,, looking forward to returning
