Location, location, location! But also friendly staff, excellent breakfast, a spacious room, and clean. On the dowside: Unfortunately the air-conditioning did not work. And looking at the building from outside, it did not work anywhere because all windows were open. There was a food festival right in front of the building so we were stuck with heat, noise and food smells (because we had to sleep with the window open). But.... if we could have kept the windows closed it would have been perfect. So: fix your climate control!

We stayed as Accor Members We had the side of the hotel looking toward the high side out the window with no street traffic. What we loved LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION Bath Window full open for fresh air Large room Large cupboard and hanging space Charging points bedside Writing desk Clean Not loved Cheap toilet paper ( probs environmentally better) 100 Accor points for waive of room clean Walk across the road for amazing food, shopping and drinks. Supermarkets for all your essentials Straight walk to river where we caught River Cruise ( don’t really see much - just relaxing )

The Mercure sits just a few minutes from the main station and right beside the Porta Nigra – the view is quite something. The underground car park is big and easy, the pedestrian area with bars and restaurants just steps away. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, if a little dated. Showers could do with a touch more pressure and the hot/cold tap is on the sensitive side, but nothing that spoils the stay. Breakfast and food are good, and while the ground floor bar isn’t always open, the restaurant upstairs fills the gap. I also used it for meetings and found the service very professional. Whether you’re exploring Trier or in town on business, this hotel is a practical, well-placed choice. Verdict: Yes, I’d stay here again – mainly for the unbeatable location, solid service, and the view of the Porta Nigra that never gets old.

Location is ideal. In walking distance from the railway station (a straight line of about 600m) and facing Trier's main monument Porta Nigra, through which one gets onto the pretty and pedestrian old town with many restaurants and all the main sights also in walking distance. The hotel building itself is modern and not really a beauty, but it is just outside the historical center, so not affecting its architectural harmony. Besides the location I appreciated the quite large room with plenty of storage space (wardrobe and drawers) and a writing desk (important to me). The view was not towards the Porta Nigra, but towards the east, from where I could watch early morning the sun rise. Bathroom was fine with also enough storage space, although a bathtub is superfluous for me nowadays. WiFi functioned well. There is a very rich choice at the breakfast buffet, starting at 6.30 during the week, at 7am on weekends. Check-in can be done online.

The hotel is opposite the old Roman city port and that is a nice surrounding. The room was pretty large and well maintained. It is just a 100 meters and you are in the centre of the city. This means restaurants etcetera are in a walkable distance.
