Misleading, NOT a 5-star hotel

Your hotel is definitely NOT 5-star. It is 3-star at best. The amenities and service provided are commensurate with that rating. We paid $800+ per night and stayed for 3 nights. The location and lake view is great and it is understandable that the booking charges reflect that especially in peak season. I also appreciated the canvas tote bag. It was a nice touch. Now for some constructive criticism. I expect the following from a 5-star hotel in the minimum - 1. A porter service to help with luggage. If thats not doable - at least offer trolleys to haul luggage. 2. A better check-in experience. We waited for over 10 mins to even get an acknowledgement. It felt like they would rather spend their time doing something else. 3. This might be more for your house-keeping staff. The lady at checkin assured me that the rollaway bed was already set up in our room. Mind you we arrived at 7pm after a long day. However, it wasn't set up. The housekeeping staff showed up just as we were about to go back to the checkin desk. 4. Please have dial instructions on your phone. There was absolutely nothing to tell us what to dial to reach room-service/front-desk etc. 5. Our fridge was empty. Please at least provide a some milk for coffee and a couple of refillable water bottles. Even a 3-star hotel can manage that. 6. You have wall-mounted toiletries !! Definitely only seen those in a 3-star hotel. And we did not have to pay $800+ for that. 7. The staff at the Lombardi restaurant was quite rude. When we went in for dinner that night, the host took 10 mins to seat us. She asked if we had a reservation and when we said no she spent the next 5-10 mins looking at a monitor screen (which had nothing on it). The whole place was empty. There were 3 tables occupied in total in the entire restaurant. The whole experience made us feel as though we made a giant mistake by walking-in. 8. You really need to have some water fountains in the hotel. Please understand that most people come from countries where it is not customary to drink out of the bathroom faucet. We are from the US, and we still don't drink out of our faucets directly. As we had no water bottles in our room, we asked where we could refill water. We feel weird refilling it from the bathroom. The front-desk people still told us that we could fill from the bathroom or ask the bartender. The bartender made a face at the request and made us wait an inordinately long time for a bottle of water. There was no one else at the bar when we made the request. 9. The cooling situation was extremely irritating. We understand that the hotel is old and there is no central cooling system. However, we were not satisfied with the solutions offered. We had ONE fan that was hooked up to ONE available outlet near the beds. I had to unplug something to set up our chargers. When we asked for two more fans, one small table fan was provided to us (again with the attitude that we are asking for too much). No help was provided to plug the fan in for us. No extension cords were provided. As recommended on the suggestion sheet, opening the window to place the fan next to us was not an option because the rollaway bed was right next to the only window that could be opened. Also, there was no plug point there. Also - how is anyone supposed to sleep with the noise coming from outside through the open window. Jumping in the lake is a completely useless and disrespectful suggestion because how do we do that at night ?!! Instead of providing a suggestion sheet with impossible ways on how to cool down, it will be much better if you actually invest in some tangible things. Some portable cooling units that work better than fans would be great. I could go on about the location of the property (45-degree slope) and its immediate surroundings (construction), but I acknowledge that some things are out of your control so I won't belabor that point. If you call yourself a 5-star hotel, please please actually research what that entails and implement those changes. Otherwise, drop a couple of stars. We came in expecting 5-star treatment and absolutely did not get that. More importantly, train your staff to be better at their jobs and be mindful of cultural differences. Train them to actually solve problems than to tell their guests that it is the best they can do. And it will really help if they appear hospitable given they work in a hospitality industry.

Staff was nice. Francisco was very helpful. Didn’t think we should be charged extra for coffees with included breakfast.

Dear Charlie, Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We’re delighted to hear that you found our staff friendly and that Francisco’s assistance stood out during your stay. I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again very soon. Sincerely, Claire Simpson Rooms Division Manager

We stayed at Hotel St Moritz around Christmas and as soon as we walked into the hotel lobby, it felt warm and inviting and the Christmas tree near fireplace was idyllic and a really beautiful touch. Staff at reception were very warm and welcoming and check in and out was a breeze. The dining room had the most beautiful lake views and my husband and I enjoyed a glass of wine together in the afternoon. The room was cosy ( a little on the smaller side) we stayed in a guest room King size but we did have a trundle bed set up for our daughter ( the beds were very comfortable, we like a softer bed.) The bathroom was modern & exceptionally clean. There was no view ( yes it overlooked the driveway) but we didn't care because we spent most of our time exploring Queenstown, not looking out the window. I would definitely stay here again. It was only a couple of minutes walk into the centre of town. Really nice buffet breakfast too.

Dear Nicole, Thank you for the beautiful review of Hotel St Moritz! I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay and felt so welcomed by all of our team! Sincerely, Claire Simpson Rooms Division Manager
