Mercure Lyon Centre Saxe Lafayette Hotel bintang 4

The breakfast was superb! One of the best I’ve ever had. Don't miss it. The lobby and restaurant area (the whole entry floor), looks new and modern. A very comfortable stay (great bed!). The room was very nice - a big beds just what we needed. The pool was ok -not big enough to really swim in and not sure it felt "heated'. The staff was okay, although they could have been a little bit nicer. Their English was poor.

Mercure's can be hit or miss - this is a good one (considering how many there are in Lyon to choose from!) Large hotel, nice updated rooms, small gym / pool in the basement. The dining area is charming as well - this would be good for a work conference, as it's a bit outside the central part of the city but only a 10 minute walk, and 20 minute walk from the train station. Could use a few things though - conditioner in the shower, lotion, non-plastic glasses to drink from, and my coffee was only decaf for some reason :(.

The hotel makes a pretty good first impression. The lobby is really nice and posh, rooms are quite spacious and very neat, with a pretty good bathroom/shower, nice looking furniture and a big TV. We were greeted warmly and we were offered the Valet Parking service, which we took. After checking in we had dinner at the restaurant, which was delicious! It is true that the menu is quite limited, with very few choices, but we must admit we really had a very nice dinner. Service was impeccable, too. In general, service was good, but there was an issue (describe further down). The problem started right after, when we need some extra toilet paper, to which the reception desk staff did not react as expected. Not only they questioned our need, but they also gave us a used roll. This is unacceptable. It was only a quick stop-over, so we did not make a fuss out of it, but it was totally out of our expectations. BTW, when rooms are cleaned for the next guests, toilet papers are not replaced, they are left in the bathroom even if half used. Then, we really did not like breakfast. The hall and service was good, but taste was not. Hot food was very salty and buttery, pastries' taste was flat and in general we were expecting something different. Even though we liked the room very much, we are not sure we would choose to stay again in this hotel.

The Hotel is located perfectly in the city centre with a supermarket next doors and the wonderful Les Halles Lyon within 8-10 minutes walking distance. The hotel has a basic gym with some cardio machines and gym mats as well. A small pool is located next to the gym in the basement. Valet parking for 28€/night is available. Overall a very good choice for a stay in Lyon. Just a few downsides: Some of the staff speaks English, still the cleaning level in the rooms and the gym can be improved. Also we had to call two times to get our car and three times to get the toilet paper refilled - isn't there a check list for that? ;-)

The hotel. set in a beautiful part of Lyon the streets were graced with glorious tree and elegant buildings. It was a great location for eating out and for shopping. Our corner room had a lovely view and breakfast was excellent.
