Always a Good Stay

I have stayed at the Sofitel multiple times, and it doesn't disappoint. As members of Accor Plus, we booked one of our free nights and booked another. We booked a Superior Room and was upgraded to a Deluxe Room, room no: 4725. The room was large with a king size bed, comfortable pillows, good air-conditioning, a wall mounted tv that swivels, 2 large comfortable, one with a foot stool, a small dining table with 2 chairs. There are multiple points for charging your devices. Tea & Coffee with a night turn down service where they offer "calming tea" to help you sleep. The bathroom was small with a single vanity, a large walk-in shower. The shower head is a handheld, water is hot and pressure is fine. Breakfast was included and it the usual assortment of juices, teas, coffees, cereals, fruits, cold meats, pastries, breads, eggs all ways, bacon, mushrooms, etc. Service at breakfast was good too. The hotel is in an excellent location, so easy to walk to shops, restaurants, a tram just out the front to take into the city or to the Carlton, East Melbourne or the suburbs. There are many shops within the complex and a cafe. Check in was easy, fast and friendly.

Pleasant but lacked the little 'wow' touches that delight!

We spent 2 nights here recently. We took advantage of a suite upgrade we had via our Accor membership to upgrade our room to a Prestige suite. It was wonderfully roomy, even having an 8-seater dinner table which was a little unnecessary. The bathroom was very small for a suite and had a tired appearance clearly not having been renovated for many years. Perhaps it was the original. Our upgrade came with access to the Club lounge. It's a lovely space with lots of room for many guests. The service is warm and efficient and breakfast comes with the option of ordering from a menu which is a lovely touch. We took advantage of this on our section morning an enjoyed our selections. Canapés at dinner were a little basic but sufficient to fill you before heading off to an early theatre performance. The bar on the 35th floor is great! A feature space and has a good selection of food options. The hotel felt a little tired, struggling to maintain its 5-star rating. It lacked some of the little extra touches that add a wow factor, for example, some fruit/pastries on welcome, turndown treats or other, and an enthusiasm in delighting guests. Staff were generally warm, efficient but lacked that extra 'delight' factor that wows in a top 5-star hotel.

Stayed in room 4422, no doubt they look and feel dated. Above the shower head in the bathroom you could see grout that wasn’t cleaned away. Ware and tear evident in the room. The overall vibe of the property was giving me 1990’s Die Hard film, Atrium Bar for a drink was nice but again, depressing. The standout was however the service at every point of interaction with the staff it was 5 stars. But - for $550 a night the rooms and property don’t live up to the standards expected in look and appearance.

Sofitel Melbourne on Collins was a fantastic stay! elegant, comfortable, and perfectly located in the heart of the city. The rooms have stunning views and the beds are incredibly comfortable. Staff are warm, professional, and attentive, making the whole experience feel effortless. A truly luxurious stay that I’d happily return to.
