Room is old and tired (crack in sink, holes in tiles from previous fastenings, bathroom door bottom perishing, fan paint peeling off). Staff okay but not very knowledgeable. Staff in restaurant not keeping up with requirements (plates, cutlery) on each of 3 days. Noisy door closing on room doors and also beside conference room (interfering with meeting).

Our stay was OK but barely four star.

The room layout consisting of two twin king beds and one low chair was not suitable for two older people. The extra bed took up too much space and there was no other furniture in the room, a small table and two chairs would have been more suitable. Chairs throughout the hotel were to low and did not suit older people with back, knee or hip problems. Accor needs to get an Occupational Therapist to review its furniture purchases with a view to supporting an ageing population. On the plus side the staff were friendly and helpful, room servicing was good and the bar and restaurant were also good. The location is OK with good access to most tourist destinations easy by taxi or car.

Satisfactory Stay for conference

I was in Darwin for a conference and was booked at the Novotel by our work travel agent, mainly due to the conference being at the hotel. The hotel location was very central and I also found my room to be neat, tidy and clean. Of note, the bed was very good and had a good mattress. On areas for improvement, there were very few hangers (only 3), the light over the study desk was not working (issue for me as I spent time in the evenings working in the room), the iron was not working and the shower had curtains which detracted my experience. With respect to service, I had to ask and follow up my request for additional hangers and also the replacement for the iron befrore these were addressed. The conference room was on the grond floor with the public bathrooms for hotel guests located nearby. These were extremely smelly with the smell permeating into the area outside of the conference room which was used for breaks including the serving of lunch and afternoon tea. I would strongly recommend that something is done about this for future conferences hosted here, as well as for guests in general. My room key was also deactivated after 2 nights (for a 3 night stay). The reason for this (as explained to me by staff) was due to my booking being initially for 2 nights and then being changed to 3 nights - while the changes to the length of stay did occur, these were made prior to my arrival at the hotel. Lastly while I didn't eat at the restaurant, I did have a coffee which was very average. Overall the hotel is somewhat tired and could do with a bit of a spruce up.
