I think this hotel suffers from comparison to the Old Cataract. You need to know that it is not in the same league at all (not as pricier too). We had a room with a tub and that was a hazard for us because of a medical issue. Water leaked and the bathroom was all wet which was not pleasant. The team moved us to a nicer room with a shower the next day as soon as it became available which was nice. The garden was beautiful and the location was great. But next time I might stay at a newer hotel with Nile views. Breakfast was nice.

I had an excellent stay at Sofitel and was overall very satisfied. However, there was one exception - a male staff member at the front desk around 5AM. He was the only one who wasn't friendly and didn't match the hotel's high service standards. On the day I was moving on Winter Palace to Pavilion, I asked about luggage assistance. Despite the hotel's prestigious reputation and concierge service, his response was simply 'Yourself', which was quite disappointing.

First the highlights - Sara from guest relations should be the Manager! She was fantastic, empathetic. She tried to correct the mistakes - MUCH more than the actual manager. Please promote her! We would have left and gone elsewhere, if it wasn't for her. Mohammad at the BBQ was also great, he went overboard to make sure that we had a good experience - which we did, thanks to him! The bar manager was also amazing! I'll preface this by saying that I read almost every review before booking. I saw the negative comments but decided that it's an Accor/Sofitel, people must be exaggerating. But sadly, most were right. Our stay wasn't great. I suspect they know this review is coming. This hotel is NOT wheelchair accessible (except for TWO rooms). All the other rooms have a step up to the bathroom or bathtubs which make it hard to get into it, if you can't walk - hence they are not accessible. I booked a room for my husband and I; I always note that he's in a wheelchair and need an accessible room. No one contacted me to state otherwise. When we checked in, the room had a big step up to the bathroom and to the terrace - impossible for him to get into. They offered to put a ramp but the door was in front of it, so it didn't work. Sara showed us about 4 other rooms but they weren't accessible (Sara tried her hardest) - except one room (room11) which was on the ground floor with a garden view (we booked nile) that had no step and my husband could roll into the bathroom. It wasn't the nicest, so we asked to see more options - she showed us one in the "new" Winter Palace but again wasn't accessible. We agreed to the garden room but were taken to room 12, it was accessible but it was much smaller and wasn't as nice as the room 11 that we were shown. Izad, the manager, came in and told us that room 11 was just booked for someone who had an accident (we later found out that she was fine, she could walk, didn't depend on using a wheelchair). He showed no sympathy, he was argumentative. Didn't care that we booked this over a month ago. I started to look at rooms at the Steinberger and finally, Izad said we could have room 11 but we had to keep the price we paid for, like he was doing us a favor by giving us a downgraded room. We finally calmed down after an hour of room changes. We decide to eat Corniche restaurant. Another disaster! The food that we ordered was drastically different then the menu description; it wasn't great at all. It took about 2 hours between courses to get our food. Our main waiter could care less but thankfully other staff jumped in to apologize and the F&B manager came over at the end to make things right. They did comp us a meal at the BBQ which was FANTASTIC! So thank you for that! They were painting in some rooms, so the whole hotel smelled like petrol fumes. The room was noisy from staff moving around at all hours in the hallways. The rugs were disgusting - I wouldn't walk barefoot, not exaggerating! Lights were dusty. Not 4-5 star. You really get hassled when you walk outside the door; but we'd be willing to overlook some of these things if the other things were good but sadly it's not the case. Overall, the hotel needs a good scrub in every corner and room. Some staff were incredible, others were terrible. So much inconsistency in the way the hotel & restaurants are managed. It's radically different from the Old Cataract just 4 hours away, which is 5 star in every way. It's sad to see such a discrepancy in properties.
