Worst Accor property ever! I’d never return to this place

Being a loyal Accor Gold member, I decided to stay with family to celebrate our birthday at this property. Upon checking the reception staff Raul was so rude he didn’t even recognise our membership, I am pretty sure if we had called in advance about the occasion surely it should have flashed on their screen to atleast open your mouth and twist it a little to say two words “happy birthday”, well instead this rude staff with a dead expression asked for and stuck on a ID. I understand it might be a policy but if I were him I would have said this politely in a different way. Anyway we went to our room and there was no bottle or card as planned in advance so I had to run down to the reception again as no one would pick up the phone at the reception, upon asking for this, we get another rude and unprofessional response that “amenities are provided at around 4pm”, I mean seriously? Is this the way you would respond? I am baffled at this hotel and the behaviour I am being presented with again and again… anyway I went back to the room and called room service to request some plates, spoons and a knife for the cake, to this the staff says “there is a $4 charge if we deliver to the room”, I said never mind I’ll run down to the reception as it’s only a birthday nothing important, he said sure and hangs up…. I have no f … idea what else to say as I am appalled with this behaviour, ruined evening and horrendous experience at this hotel. I hope we aren’t charged for breathing in this property but we will find out tomorrow. I really feel hesitant to ask any help from this team here, who knows if they will ask for money for doing subtle things here. I’d say stay away from this hell.

Felt like a budget hotel with poor presentation

My first impression was pretty bad, as there was a terrible smell in the lift, which everyone was commenting about. The room I was given was tucked right at the back - about 7 turns to be able to get to the room. The carpet was old with holes in several places. I couldn't even get the TV to work! Overall a very poor experience for over $200. It felt like a budget hotel!

Our neighboring retailers underwent wastewater pipe upgrades and as we share an open lift shaft, that odour unfortunately made its way into our building. What a location. We have a two night stay jere and so far its been amazing, early check in and an upgraded room for a little extra charge was most welcome. Reception staff were amazing and very welcoming, hotel facilities are superb. Looking forward to using the gym and breakfast in the morning. Very comfortable bed and a quiet room, just what we needed after a 14 hour flight and much walking in Melbourne.

Wow - Novotel on Collins St - heart of Melbourne, thriving wannabe epicenter of Australia. Not going to review in detail but give an example of their customer last philosophy. Residents bar, maybe with 15 people in it. I arrive at 9.45pm and am informed that they are closed. Why I ask. We are not busy enough. 3 bar staff are on duty. I ask at reception who confirm this policy - shake my head and go to my room. Phone rings - can we bring you a bottle of wine? No thanks - moment is lost. Seriously management - is the bar manager running the hotel? I stay with Accor quite a lot but the Novotel brand is damaged beyond repair with me

Not recommended for a romantic weekend

If you arrive in Melbourne on the skybus from the airport it is a fair old walk down Collins Street to the hotel. Best idea is to jump on a free tram. Forget about walking into a lovely foyer - just inside the entrance is a lift to the third floor and reception. You walk past a bar on the way to check-in - the front office guy was pleasant enough but had limited english. Next challenge - they were having problems with the lifts which in fairness they apologised for at check-in. I was on the eighth floor room 820 which turned out to be a corner mini suite. Very impressive but nothing in the mini bar, no usb slots and working out how to get local TV proved the top mind puzzle of the day. Bathroom was also a good size - room lighting average and the hot water took an eternity to arrive. If you prefer soap like me take your own - the hotel only offers pumps for shampoo, conditioner and body wash. I don't usually use the aircon when i go to bed - but blowed if i could work out how to turn it off. Another puzzle.
