Been a client at Sofitel Lisbon already before Covid. It has been since renovated with skinny rooms and a continuous bad smell from the lobby. In addition, I am a Diamond Member with Accor for years. I visited Sofitel hotels worldwide, from Chicago, NY, Paris and Thailand etc... Not the same level in Lisbone anymore. For Diamond Members : Here, NO upgrade for top members, a first since the last 4 years with Sofitel and Accor from China, NY and Paris. Local management will reply there is no superior availability... Not even true but no one even thought about It. Last experience there in Lisbon! Many other 4 and 5* hotels starting by Tivoli Liberdade next block.

Stayed here in July at the end of our trip to Portugal. Booked what seemed like a decent offer online. This offer was for families, and a second adjoining room was half price. However, when we got to check in we were told that all adjoining rooms were booked and we would have two rooms, separate, on the same corridor. When I explained that this would be an issue with our kids being 5 and 8 years old only, it didn't really seem to register with the staff. We were told that "requesting" an adjoining room was same as asking for a room on a high level. I must say I disagree with this. They lady gave us the room keys, saying "here is yours and here is the kids room keys". Im not sure she understood that you cant put a 5 and 8 year old, locked in a hotel room over night! There was no offer to try and resolve this, no offer to speak to a supervisor to find some sort of solution. So while we were booked for 4 nights, we only paid for 1 at that point, pending us finding a differnt hotel that would allow us to have the rooms that we needed. We were told that we needed to decide otherwise our keys would de-activate by 11am the next day. So, at last minute it was impossible to find another hotel, as they were all booked. In the end we changed our flights, and checked out early! The problem here is that our issue just seemed to be inconsequential to the hotel, but in reality it's a show stopper and resulted in us cutting our holiday short. We had to split one parent, one kid to each room, lights out at 7:30pm, day done, lying n the dark in a small room! It didnt seem to bother the staff we were checking out early, and were not asked how our stay was when we checked out, and no follow up email from the hotel, hence writing my review here. Other than that, the location is great, breakfast was good. Other reviews say the hotel is outdate, but I don't really agree with that. Just a shame that the team doesn't seem to have the greatest care for its guests. I note the other reviews on here, along with some other conversations I witnessed at the hotel. Shame!

Ok but…

Hotel location is great and overall the hotel staff were good and flexible (shout out to Frederico Melo). However, there were a few noticeable issues. Specifically, a number of the rooms occupied by my family smelt of sewage. Despite many complaints, the issue was never resolved. This is sadly enough to ruin the experience at the hotel as each time you walk into your room it smells like a toilet. Not very welcoming at all. There were also some items added to our final bill which were not incurred by us but where the hotel had assumed that other guests dining were being paid by us. Luckily we spotted this before making payment and it was removed. Overall, not the full Sofitel experience my family was used to. Hopefully things management can work on.

Old smelly and uncooperative staff with a tricky rooms description

The suite description is mis leading as it shows that it can accommodate 3 person. During check in the front desk refused to check me in and were very uncooperative. I even asked them to change my reservation to two rooms instead but they rejected and forced me to rent a room in addition to my suite which cost me much more. I was very unsatisfied but they didn’t care. As a result I cut my stay from three nights to one night. In addition, the added single room I had was extremely small and smelly and suddenly the roof started dripping water. It was one of the worst experiences. In general the hotel is old and doesn’t worth its rooms rates.

It started with our arrival at noon, room available at 3 - fine- but when we get to the room at 5 the luggage isn’t even there. Then we asked for a reservation by the concierge and it took literally 30 mins to get a confirmation (it was a simple phone call). Then we ask for a taxi, which they ordered but never came (suggestion to all: forget taxis in Lisbon, Uber is faster and cheaper). Next day, we ask them to book a rooftop, they call in front of us, and tell us “it’s full but by the time you get there, a table will free up”. Guess what? It was completely full and we had to go elsewhere. Nice final touch, we ask the turndown staff to come later, they never came. Maybe they don’t speak English (in a hotel where 70% of the guests speak only that). Only bright spot is the nice breakfast staff. Oh, and no grace period on check out (not that I saw any cleaning staff rushing to clean the room when I left the room!) The rooms are tired, small, no bathtub, one sink. A sort of 1990s charm, including a Bose speaker that connects to a 2001 iPod. So, strip away the useless staff and you have a good 3 star hotel. We won’t be returning, even though we are loyal Accor customers.
