I spent three nights in the Mercure München City Centre towards the end of September, possibly a bad time to visit due to Oktoberfest (which I didn’t wish to attend). The hotel is near the main railway station so there are good transport links to get to other places in the city, but there’s not much near the hotel itself other than the railway station and more hotels. The hotel has very retro decor, lots of green and brown, which (depending on your perspective) could seem either cosy or just dated. There is a bar and restaurant on the ground floor. I had one meal there and thought it was overpriced and very average. My room was fairly spacious and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was also a good size, but the shower was not very good and the lighting in both the bathroom and main room was very dim. My room was on the second floor and overlooked a small courtyard, which I expected to mean that it would be quiet, but it was very noisy. My first night, I was kept awake until 3am by very loud music. On subsequent nights there wasn’t music but the sound of people working in the kitchen, coming into the courtyard to empty rubbish, including bottles which make a horrendous noise. I could also hear other hotel guests talking. The cost of the hotel was very high (which I assumed was because of Oktoberfest), but other things like the cost of laundry were also much higher than in other places I stayed. I didn’t think it was good value. Unless you want to be near the railway station to catch an early train, I would recommend staying somewhere else closer to the more interesting parts of town. Also, avoid travelling to this hotel from the airport by taxi, it is incredibly expensive (EUR120). I arrived late after a very delayed flight and got a taxi because I was tired, but I could have got a train for not much less effor and about the tenth of the cost.

This hotel was clean, spacious and convenient ! The staff was SO friendly and helpful and the breakfast was fantastic ! We would go down in the evenings for a drink and two evenings we ate dinner ! Again excellent meal! Would definitely stay here again !!!

A so-so experience. Positive: Location is convenient from Munich Central, and the room was clean. Windows were noise-proof. Free minibar. Negative: Rooms and hallways well-worn. Air conditioning was barely functional and noisy, WLAN was spotty, and the neighborhood was noisy at night and felt a bit unsafe (e.g., various gambling dens close by). The room also smelled like something electrical had overheated or a capacitor had blown. Windows could not be fully opened to air out the room.

Bad block bad neighborhood

Sadly the hotel is in a very bad neighborhood. Noises all night, screams and loudspeaker foreigners on the street, impossible to sleep. I dont recomend this neighborhood at all. The hotel have spacious and clean rooms, apparently it is changing de windows, but un the third floor it has old windows and the noise on the street sound really loud, all night!!! Horror.
