The room was comfortable and clean when I arrived. However, I did not have any housekeeping services during my entire stay. I also had a person who identified themselves as a "maintenance worker" enter my room when it was locked and I was sleeping without knocking first.

When driving to the Novotel Gent and corresponding parking lot (garage), one must be aware that this location is now only reachable through driving into a vehicle exclusion zone (apparently many streets in the center of Gent now require a permit for authorizing said driving, which you must possess prior to driving on the corresponding streets). Note that all of said streets are monitored by automatic cameras, which record all cars (identifying and recording plate numbers as well) when passing the area. I want to underline the fact that before that we entered said exclusion zone, the hotel front desk told us that they would register our car plate and so, that permission was implicitly granted to us for reaching the hotel by car. We did believe it and did drive to said hotel... However, a week later we received, to our surprise, not one but two fines of 58Eur for illegal driving into the city centre, to be paid within 30 days after the fine issuance. Since then, I kept sending emails (at least 5 times) and calling the hotel front desk (over days) in order to find out whether our car was indeed registered by the hotel staff or not, but all that was in vain. I was even promised at some point that the hotel manager would call me back on my private phone number for finding a settlement, but since then I am still waiting for it… ACCS (the company issuing the fines) refused of course to consider our situation and to investigate the matter seriously. Providing them with the reservation number at the Hotel was of course not enough for them. Therefore, we are now left facing a digital administrative wall that threatens us for increasing the fine amounts, when not paying said fines in time and a Novotel management, which does not want to respond to our request for being heard! It's like organized extortion! Gent and Novotel Gent, for me, just sounds like never ever !!!
