This hotel is a real mixed bag. The bar/restaurant and location are spectacular. It was amazing to have an outside pool during a heatwave. But the room and front desk service were a real let down.

We stayed in Novotel Gent from 27th May to 31st where temperatures reached 32°C. We did have a few issues: - the air conditioning was very weak in all four rooms, and despite a fan being provided it only helped a bit. - while the room description mentions a sofa bed we learned that none of the sofa beds had a mattress, making this benefit pointless for the family that needed that sofabed. - there was a musty smell in most of the rooms, and the rooms just felt a bit dated. - you can hear noise from the people out late at night depending on the location of your room but this is a risk you take with any hotel in the city centre. However, the staff were very helpful and moved the family to a room with a sofa bed mattress. Would like to mention Wael and Eduardo specifically for doing everything they could do to help resolve the situation - without their professionalism and problem solving approach this rating would have been more of a 3 out of 10. I must apologise for not getting the names of the other staff members, but they were all very helpful.

Air-conditioning was broken in our room, we were offered am additional fan but it was really quite uncomfortable and being at the front of the hotel having the window wide open meant it was extremely noisy. The location of the hotel is great, the pool was lovely, breakfast was excellent and staff was friendly. But the air conditioning not working was really disappointing as the room hadn't been particularly cheap, and fan + window open was just really noisy and hot- slept terribly unfortunately.

Well located, interior a bit run down. Broken curtains, the fridge in the room did not work. The doorknob of the hallway door broke off. The whole hotel looks a bit tired.
