The location is excellent, but the room was dated, with chipping furniture and dated furnishings.

We are delighted that you appreciated the prime location of our hotel, right in the heart of Gent and a mere 350 meters from St Bavo’s Cathedral. However, we apologize that your experience was not completely to your satisfaction. We understand that the aesthetics and condition of a room greatly contribute to the comfort of our guests, and we take your comments regarding the room furnishings seriously. Our team is dedicated to maintaining a high standard of accommodation, and we regret any oversight that may have occurred. Good Location the overall experience very poor

The main areas of irritation were twofold. 1) The room - I had booked an executive room but the room was far from executive. Your website indicates a totally different bathroom to the one we got. I could not see any indication that refurbishments were only partially complete. My wife has mobility issues and the step down from the shower was dangerous. As regards the room what is the difference between an ordinary room and executive room. A Nespresso coffee maker and slippers / dressing gown for about €20 per night. I complained to reception and said I should get some kind of refund but they said the didn't have the authority. 2) the breakfast- I had inadvertently booked for only one person and at initial check in I was faced with paying €48 for two breakfasts and €7 for city taxes. The breakfast we got was dire. Your website talks about large selection of fresh fruits. I have taken a photograph of what was available! We had spent the previous 3 nights in the Mercure Chartres Cathedral and the difference in the breakfasts was chalk and cheese. The Novotel had no jams to go with the bread. No cakes. On the second day no butter only margarine. My average price per night at Chartres was €165 (including a king size bed and a stay on Saturday night). My average price at Gent was €190. My wife and I have been to Gent several times, we love the place but we certainly will not be staying at an Accor hotel.

My wife and I have spent several days in two Accor hotels. The Mercure in the centre of Chartres France and the Novotel Gent Centrum. Talk about chalk and cheese. Hard to say a bad word about the Mercure. Breakfast fantastic. Staff friendly and helpful. Location brilliant. Novotel - it's difficult to say a good word. We booked an executive room. Nothing like the photographs on the website. I apparently had only booked for one person. I therefore had to pay for two extra breakfasts and two extra city taxes. €48 (Web site said £18.63 =€22 at current exchange rates.) for the breakfasts and €7 for the city taxes. It was absolutely the worst beakfast in a hotel I have ever had considering the price. The website says an extensive range of fresh fruits- see attached photograph. No jam for toast. The hot food was poor particularly the bacon. The staff were not particularly friendly. Now on to the room. It was looking very tired. Air conditioning was either off centrally or it had broken down. The wallpaper was chipwood very 1970's. I could go on but I'm sure you have the picture. I could not fault the location.
