Mosconi
Luxembourg city is full of Michelin-starred restaurants, and Mosconi is one of them. Mosconi is a very elegant Italian restaurant, located in a typical Luxembourgish place called "Grund." You are not only about to enjoy the best pastas the city has to offer, but also a beautiful, historic area of casemates along the river Alzette. The restaurant, originally from Lombardy, offers an Italian menu that can only be described in one word: authenticity. The chef Ilario Mosconi works with products that come straight from Italy, such as Sicilian tomatoes, veal from the Piedmont and white truffles from Alba. He even imports the "usual" ingredients basil and ricotta. Also particularly important for a full dining experience, the staff is absolutely friendly at Mosconi - exactly what you would expect from an Italian family.
Ma Langue Sourit
Ma Langue Sourit is another Michelin-starred restaurant, one that experiments with flavours like no other! They use organic products from French grounds, and they change their menu weekly. The French influence is noticeable throughout the place, which offers a complete experience. Upon entering the restaurant, you see an impressive collection of paintings around you on the walls that are regularly replaced or expanded. It gives the place a very homely atmosphere, but definitely more like one of a former Duchy. The mission of chef Cyril Molard and his staff is to keep you smiling while dining in Luxembourg, and with their extensive wine list that is not going to be a challenge.
Tip: go to Ma Langue Sourit on a Saturday afternoon for a cooking class that includes a three course lunch, and learn to cook like a real Michelin chef!
Clairefontaine
We continue the games with Michelin-starred restaurants in Luxembourg, since Clairefontaine should absolutely be included in this list. The kitchen of Luxembourg is mainly influenced by the French, and Clairefontaine is appointed by many residents and guests as the best French cuisine in town. The restaurant has a very elegant style, as if you are in one of the idyllic streets of Paris. The tables, chairs and crockery are perfectly matched, so you feel like you’re, for eight courses, on another holiday to graceful France! Chef Arnaud Magnier mainly works with seasonal products and the Gourmand Menu is therefore recommended. Is this not your favourite, just order à la carte and choose for example their delicious lobster, snake or frog legs.
Le Sud
Le Sud is a very special restaurant in Luxembourg; it’s not only the delicious food that draws you to this place, but also the beautiful views from the terrace. The restaurant itself is very homely and warm and it creates an environment that reflects Luxembourg’s kindness. The staff here is committed to be the best of service, and if you would like to move to the panoramic terrace for a drink, they will definitely help you on your way to the glass elevator that leads you there. The cuisine is a delicious mix of French and Luxembourg, and it offers a perfectly matched wine list. Besides, the restaurant has a very nice bonus: it also has a large collection of cigars to choose from!
Ilôt Gastronomique Food Mall
You probably ask yourself, why a food mall in a list full of Michelin-starred restaurants in Luxembourg? Well, Gastronomique Food Mall is not just your typical food mall, it also houses a Michelin-starred place: Le Bouquet Garni! The restaurant is located on one of the floors of this extraordinary building of the 18th century, in the heart of medieval Luxembourg. The creative chef Thierry Duhr and his loyal team playfully challenge the French gastronomy, and they end up with some very unique creations! Furthermore, there are a dozen other restaurants in the food mall with international cuisines that offer quality and authenticity, just like the beautiful, historic building itself.
Green Art Café
For lunch and art you must go to the Green Art Café. Here you will get yourself ready for all the beautiful things you’re about to see in the National Museum of Art and History during an extensive vegetarian(!) lunch. The museum offers art and artefacts from all eras of the history of Luxembourg and is located in the Fish Market, the historic heart of the city. Pay special attention to the many unique homes in this area! Green Art Café is one of the few vegetarian cafes in Luxembourg, and therefore one of a kind. The cafe is located in the museum and offers a luxurious all-you-can-eat salad bar with pastas, wraps and other small bites of local, organic products.
Kaempff-Kohler
Kaempff-Kohler is a special place and difficult to categorize - it is a restaurant, a pastry shop, a fine tasting, but also a wine and cheese shop. Come here to try over 180 different cheeses and their homemade sourdough bread "Pain Poilâne," with a delicious wine on the side. Afterwards, compose a basket at their shop with all your favourite cheeses and other goodies and take home a piece of Luxembourg!
Pastry shops
Luxembourg is known for its chocolate with influences of the French and Belgians. The city is therefore full of various shops, ranging from special coffee and tea houses with these delicious delicacies, to special pastry shops and chocolatiers. Namur Chocolatier falls into the latter category and is perhaps the best known in Luxembourg city. It is located in the heart of the shopping district and therefore the perfect base to recharge with some sugar after a long morning of shopping. Namur is a traditional, authentic chocolatier, different from another well-known one: Oberweis. The choices there are quite similar, but it has a more luxurious appearance. In addition, Luxembourg city is also home to the French macarons, so this is a good opportunity to try some - do so at Ladurée!
