South Coast bakeries all claim to have the best pies and baked goods, and when the only way is to try for yourself, it’s time for a pie-themed road trip.

Every good bakery throughout the south coast claims that they have the world’s best pie. Whether savoury pies or sweet pies, there are plenty of bakeries and pie shops to peruse along the south coast. To help you find your favourite pie, we’ve got the best bakeries on the south coast and even a road trip for you to try them all!

Gerringong

Start your trip in Gerringong and make the most of the sleepy seaside town. A popular destination along the South Coast, Gerringong and the Mercure Gerringong Resort will help you wake up well-rested and ready to begin your pie adventure.

Berry Pie Shop

Berry is the epitome of a quaint town for some, with a small bakery that sits on a pedestrian laneway to make the most of the sunny days that often warm up the region. An ever-changing menu of pies and pastries keep locals coming back regularly. If you have a few extra minutes to spare, we also recommend trying a cup of tea and slice of cake at the Berry Tea Shop before hitting the road.

Heritage Bakery

The first thing you’ll notice at the Heritage Bakery, Milton is the unmissable building the bakery calls home. The history of the space can be felt with every step you take towards the doors. Sandstone brickwork and iron detailing marking the building as one of the oldest in the region, and one of the best pie shops too.
Regulars will tell you that the Heritage is the best bakery in the world, with the best pies in the world. How right they are is up for debate, but it’s certainly a top bakery with some great pies and popular baked goods.
Don’t fill up too much at the Heritage: you’re not nearly done yet, with Ulladulla just a few suburbs over.

Hayden’s Pies

In Ulladulla, Hayden’s Pies is the go-to pie shop. Fancy cakes are not the call of the day at Hayden’s. Instead, you’ll enjoy great classic meat pies and sweet pies alike. Croissants might be missing, but you won’t be able to resist the tantalising aroma of a butter chicken curry pie. Grab a coffee to go with your pie before heading back on the road.

Batemans Bay Bakehouse

Tourists and locals alike flock to the Batemans Bay Bakehouse to try a bite or two of the sweet and savoury sensations within. Nestled in the town, the Bateman’s Bay Bakehouse is a popular early morning coffee and cake spot for many (opening at 6:30am for those staying nearby).
But morning coffee isn’t all the Bakehouse offers, and there’s nothing like enjoying a sweet lamington as you sit on a pier overlooking the Clyde River.
Smaller sweet pies and savoury pies are perfect for the pie lover who can’t choose which pie to get: get both!

South Coast & Southern Highlands Best Pies

For the pie-lover who isn’t set on exploring the coast, there are some great pie shops to discover a little further inland.

Kangaroo Valley Bakehouse

The picturesque Kangaroo Valley is a popular holiday spot for many, and what Australian holiday is complete without a trip to the local pie shop? The Kangaroo Valley Bakehouse is a great bakery, popular with visitors and locals. The menu is updated regularly with traditional pies, gourmet pies, and sausage rolls. Plenty wonder who holds the title of the best pies in Kangaroo Valley, and the Kangaroo Valley Bakehouse pies are consistently frontrunners.
Hop back in the car and head north for half an hour to make your way to Robertson.

Robertson Pie Shop

No list of south coast pie shops could ignore the Famous Robertson Pie Shop. Full of country charm, this bakery is a popular day trip destination for the entire region. People who live in larger towns and cities often pop by to enjoy the country town charm of Robertson and to try what many call the best pies in the world.
If you’ve had enough pie for the day (or if you’ve exhausted the Robertson Pie Shop menu, somehow), pop into the Robertson Cheese Shop for a quick snack. And for the person who’s ticking off their list of Australia’s Big Things, hop across the road to visit The Big Potato.

Bowral

When your belly is full of pie and you just want to rest in luxury, head to Peppers Craigieburn Bowral. Enjoy a well-earned good night’s rest in countryside class.

Gumnut Patisserie and Samuel Gee Pies & Pastries

When you’re looking for the best sweet pie, Bowral’s own Gumnut Patisserie has decadent sweet pies and cakes so pretty, you almost won’t want to eat them. Head to Samuel Gee for your final savoury pie or pastry of your road trip.
By now, you’ve tasted the best pies and baked goods the South Coast has to offer, and you can choose which is the best bakery on the South Coast. Which one is your favourite?
