Room 401 at ibis Styles Glasgow was one of the best mid-range hotel rooms I have ever stayed in. In a separate area to the left of the lift, it appeared to be the only room not along a corridor. Although it faced onto the street, it was pretty quiet. As it can be extremely difficult to reserve a single room, I was in a double room, which was spacious and well-equipped. The only surprise was the provision of only one chair. Duvets are now standard at hotels, and I have abandoned attempts to request a sheet and blankets for the flexibility they give. The storage was good, although there were no drawers. The Central Heating/Air-conditioning worked well but required experimentation; instructions would have been helpful (see photos), especially for 81-year-olds like me. The same held true for the television: an impressively big screen and clear picture, but many programmes were unavailable – see photos. The shower room (photo) was excellent, with a rapid and generous supply of hot water. When I arrived, I found the shower head connection had been damaged; it was rapidly repaired. The door security device was impossible to use: the two metal sections could not be connected. The lifts were among the fastest I have experienced in a hotel. The Breakfast Buffet (photo) was outstanding, but the jams were hard to find; the music was too loud.

Prior to stay I phoned to get best advice for car parking and was recommended to park at the NCP carpark at Glassford Street. The Ibis would provide me with a voucher to use when I paid for the parking to reduce my cost to £8.95. Despite the carpark being around a 20 minute walk, the voucher did not work and I ended up paying £17.95. Disappointingly, there was a Q-Park adjacent to the hotel that is also discounted by the hotel.

The Ibis Styles has wonderful, welcoming staff who have gained the full 6 points of this review. Their positive attitude and cheery dispositions made them genuinely the best staff at a hotel that I've come across in years. So why the slightly low rating? - the net curtains in my room had mould on them and the carpet in the room has terrible stains on it - there were no special gluten free products at breakfast (this was the first time I'd experienced this at a major hotel chain, the staff were apologetic) - the shampoo bottle in the shower was empty All 3 of these things should be a basic for hotels, hence the 4 points deducted.
