Well appointed room with fridge, comfortable bed, and chaise longue with useful table top. Very helpful reception staff. The hotel is in a great location, two minutes from Winyard Station, and an easy 10mins walk from Sydney harbour. Only issue for me - as I have poor eyesight- is that room was pretty dark, I needed more light!

We had a lovely time celebrating our wedding anniversary at Novotel Sydney city centre. Our great experience started at checkin where we were given an upgrade and a bottle of champagne was sent to our room for our anniversary. The room is nicely upgraded and perfect for 2 people. We had a short walk to Barangaroo for dinner. Slept beautifully on the comfy bed and pillow. Buffet breakfast had plenty of option plus we were made poached eggs by the chef. Thank you again for the lovely experience.

Decent and consistent experience in line with my other Novotel stays. What works against this hotel is the building it’s in. A very cramped building, with small hallways, low ceilings and small windows. This gives the entire hotel a bit of a claustrophobic and dark feeling, while the rooms actually are nicely done up. The room is nice, comfortable bed, and everything was clean and stylish. For a longer stay the cupboard could be a bit larger especially if are with 2 people (I was travelling solo so it was fine). I must admit that they dropped the ball a bit on the bathroom design. The sink area is a bit small and with a slightly different layout, they could have made better use of overall floor space. Noise levels in the hotel are considerable, both from other rooms as well as from outside. I had a room on the 14th floor and street noise was clearly audible, as one other review also highlights. It’s no surprise as the windows seem to be the original ones from the 1970’ies with just some flimsy second layer of glazing having been applied. Hotel management should have bitten the bullet during the renovation and put in proper double glazing, the cold could be felt through the glass. Rooms do not come with a desk or a desk chair, only with some weird slidable table that doubles as a makeshift desk, which you have to use while sitting on the couch. This makes anything more than just a few emails a tedious exercise. What really needs to be sorted out though is the WiFi: on the Novotel hotel page it boasts “fast WiFi”. Not only was the speed excruciatingly slow, it was often impossible to connect at all (on multiple devices) or it just dropped the connection completely despite signal strength showing full bars. In light of the above I would not recommend this hotel for business travellers. What I also don’t understand is staff knocking on my door despite the “Do not disturb” sign. When I pointed out the sign, I got a “sorry”. I had a late checkout which I had arranged the night before but apparently this was not conveyed to housekeeping, so again the procedures and training as mentioned in other reviews come into play. I wonder if Kim Stredder will come with her boilerplate reply that “we appreciate your feedback” as per the other reviews or that anything will actually be done. It seems reviews are consistently average or poor, and it’s raked 183 out of 191 hotels in Sydney - something I would be extremely worried about as a General Manager! Location is very convenient, only 2 minutes walk to the Wynyard train station which takes you to the airport and therefore I would consider this hotel again, but only for leisure or if business for 1 night only.

Please note all windows have been double glazed at the hotel and most guests are satisfied with the rooms outside noise level, I am sorry if it did not meet your needs. The desk is part of the design of the room, we have deliberately gone and created more space in the room. Regarding the Wifi, we are aware of its patchiness and are working as fast as possible to have this issue rectified. Location is one of the only attractions of this hotel. From the time we arrived, the front staff were underwhelming and inattentive. (Exactly as other reviews suggested) It was like extracting teeth trying to get information about our stay at the hotel. As a guest, one should not have to ask basic questions regarding the hotel amenities and conditions. Breakfast was well below average. Very small ‘array’ of food on offer. Taxi pickup/drop off is not ideal. Only safe pickup place is across a busy 4 lane road. Weird fact: A sign placed in the bathroom states you must shower with bathroom door closed or you may incur a $2000 fine if fire brigade is called due to steam build up. Solution - Why not provide a bloody fan on your bathrooms!!!! This should not be listed as a preferred Qantas hotel.

Not good for business or international travellers

Travelling for business? Plan extra hour to wait for the lifts, that seems to be constantly blocked by the stuff or just not working (?) Add to this no taxi parking area, the pick up and drop area is behind the building where also rubbish bins also being picked up. The food is overpriced, phones not working, there is drinking water available except the tap water, half working aircon, small not airily at all rooms. Now check the prices and think if you can do better.
