This is the best place to stay in Durham. Located downtown with easy access to DPAC, great restaurants and other events. The accommodation are great with a restaurant and a bar inside the hotel.

The room was nice. It wasn’t perfect, the sinks clogged which was kinda gross. We booked the penthouse. I was a little shocked that when I requested turn down service they forgot about it and then when I called to ask again the house keeping staff ‘left for the day’ and no one could do it. For the cost and being in the penthouse, I would expect that to be a minimum. Would stay again, but wouldn’t spend as much money. Overall the remaining staff were nice and attentive.

I enjoyed every second of my stay at 21c Durham. The vibes were cool, the bed was cozy, and the art was surreal. 10 out of 10!

I came to Durham to speak at a technical conference and the 21c was one of the recommended hotels. I arrived and Josh & Matthew at the front desk got me into a room and explained the lay of the land. I got in my room and realized that my lights in the front weren't working nor was my phone. I left out and a friendly guy Tori (Tory?) asked if I needed any help. I told him I was headed downstairs and thanked him. I headed down and they apologized and sent engineering straight away. So I get back and Tori is standing at the door with a smile. Guess I should've taken him up on his offer. As we go through the room he realizes a few things aren't working as they should and brings in the head of engineering. They review the room and confirm it's in working order. I leave out for the evening and when I return I realize the room is pretty nippy. So I crank the heat up and pile on the blankets, figuring it'll warm up overnight. I woke up bright and early to a freezing cold room, but had no time to be concerned as I had to be at my conference. I was doing my hair and the electricity in the bathroom flickered out. That evening when I returned, I went back to the front desk and was greeted by Melenie. I explained the previous days adventures and she immediately changed my room. She was even nice enough to come up to walk me down to my new room. The new room was a bit warmer than the last, so I cranked up the thermostat, piled on my blankets and headed to bed. (P.S. I did shower, I just figure you folks don't need to hear all about that). The next morning it's frigid and I check my phone thermostat and it's a whopping 67 degrees, despite the thermostat being set to 80. I head to my conference and when I returned just before 10, Tory was at the front and checked again to see if everything was ok. I told him how I had changed rooms and that unfortunately the room was without heat again. He offered a sincere apology and explained how he had done some troubleshooting and what the issue was. This night though, there was a wedding and all rooms were booked, so I toughed it out. The staff greeted me in the morning when I went to check out and after reading the notes offered free breakfast, a complimentary drink as well as a discount on my stay. When they realized I was staying longer, they offered me space to continue to do my work with a late checkout as well as a complimentary lunch. They were kind, thoughtful and truly concerned about my stay as well as apologetic about the room issues. All-in-all, the kindess of the staff and the consideration shown to me by each member, including the staff in the restaurant, was what made my stay memorable. Nice people can make a cold room a lot warmer. Thanks to Josh, Matthew, Melenie, Tory and the older woman in the Restaurant with the braids who works the front and serves (sorry I didn't get her name), but they made the stay something I'd speak fondly of with odd quirks.
