Perfect location

TripAdvisor rating 5.0/5

Traveler37817 22/09/2021 TripAdvisor review

Perfect location for exploring the city. The exemplary service of Tom the engineer is the reason for 5 stars. He came up immediately to check my TV which didn’t display, assessed the problem, and brought up a new TV which had arrived the day before. He was friendly, efficient, and professional—-outstanding service. My only criticism—-the dark, dreary hallways (at least on 11th floor).

Good stay, street noise not your fault.

We love 21c and this was our fourth one. We used to live in Chicago. Great location and we enjoyed the art. Our TV was broken and you attended to it quickly. Only downside was the deterioration in Chicago itself. Couldn’t sleep for the noise of drag racing and engines revving all night. Not your fault but never would have thought the crime would have come to Michigan avenue.

Needs better windows.

This was the noisiest hotel room I have ever experienced. Our room was on the 7th floor. It was as if the street noise was coming from inside the room. I am not a light sleeper but the noise was so bad it prevented me from sleeping until the early hours of the morning. Terrible choice of windows.

We loved the hotel, especially the art gallery lobby. Our room was large, clean, and a good value for the price.

Great staff, wonderful art, comfortable bed!

Mini bar was jammed and needed refrigerator for medication storage. Staff brought a small fridge to our room.

No idea of service.

I was told when I checked in that if there was anything I needed just to ask. I needed a shower cap. You had none. The shower had a shelf that angled backward putting water all over the floor.I had to ask 3 times over two days to get extra towels.

Mediocre service & hidden fees

I was not pleased with my experience here. There was limited room service, which is understandable at the moment, but necessary items (like toilet paper, tissues, towels, etc.) are not readily available. If there's not going to be daily room service, there should be a streamlined way to request and receive these items as needed. Room service only came once during my week long stay, which meant that I had to ask for things at the front desk, and there was not consistent availability of simple items like toilet paper. Moreover, after receiving my bill, I found that a hidden, so-called "urban experience fee" had been added to each day of my stay. At $20/day, this fee did not cover any actual service that I received, and it was just a way for the hotel to squeeze more money out of me. This was not a pleasant discovery to make at the end of my trip. The hotel looks nice, and it is in a good location. It is unfortunate that these facts cannot make up for the disappointing experience that I had while staying there.

Great location, thin walls

We stayed here just for one night. The room was clean, the beds were very comfortable, and the front desk staff was really nice and friendly. The biggest issue we had was how noisy it was - not the city noise (plenty of that but not the hotel’s fault), but where our room was located (3rd floor by the elevator) we could hear every single person walking by, every time the elevator made a ding sound, and the rumbling of the elevator doors. Doesn’t seem like there was any effort to reduce sound for people in the rooms. Since we were staying for only one night we didn’t make a fuss about it but if I were to stay again I would try to request a room away from the elevators. If they couldn’t accommodate (which I understand, maybe it’s a weird request) I may consider a different hotel. It was really just so loud! I also have a gut feeling that booking through a travel website always gets you the worst room, so maybe it’s my fault for using those! But I like to end on a positive note: it’s a really pretty hotel on the inside, the art gallery is a cute touch, and the mattress/bedding was really cozy.

Some employees were unprofessional

Night shift employees doesn’t wear mask. What a shame! At least the lady at the front desk was behind a shield. The security guy was the worse. I stayed 5 nights and did not see him wearing mask at all.

Attractive and comfortable room in a great location.

Happy I chose 21c because my room was comfortable and attractive and the hotel was well located. I especially appreciated being able to check in early and being able to leave my bag with the desk after checkout until a very late departure. The staff was friendly and helpful in suggesting nearby restaurants. It would have been good to have the hotel's dining area open, but it's understandable that covid required this closure. I didn't mind that there was no maid service during my stay because plenty of towels were provided. Thank you for a very good experience! I would choose 21c again.

Immersed in art

The art museum is amazing. I assumed it would be a gimmick but it's anything but: this is a serious collection - provocative, beautiful, and SUCH a better thing to pass through on your way in and out of the hotel than what usually finds. We spent time in the gallery EVERY time we passed through the lobby, and planned our departure to give us time to see it all. We also spent several hour watching the art channel that the TV defaults to, which gave us insight into the art and the artists. All in all, we felt like the hotel was part of our cultural experience in Chicago, rather than simply a place to rest our heads after seeing the city. The room is also well-designed, comfortable, etc., and that's of course necessary and appreciated in a hotel of this caliber. Services were reduced because of COVID restrictions, but the hotel staff quickly and happily responded to requests for amenities. We will definitely stay here and again and will also look for other hotels in the chain, as -- unlike other hotel chains - each promises to be a unique and fascinating experience. Bravo.

We sadly had our car broken into. We got the hotel package with a self park promo code and had to deal with this. On the other hand, the hotel room was beautiful and very comfortable.

We stayed 4 nights and only one day they made us the room. We had to go to the reception for coffee capsules, glasses and sugar. At check-in, we were told that our room wasn't ready until 6pm, at the end Nancy at the front desk gave us a room. The hotel was full and only one elevator was working, it was a chaos going up and down, if we consider that we were on the 10th floor.

I had a pretty smooth booking with Hotel 21C. I appreciated the housekeeping and staff who were very accommodating. My room was decent and enjoyed the stay but it could have been a little more tidy. I did find it a little unkept with litter on the floor. However besides that Housekeeping was prompt to respond. As in the Art decor and Artwork displayed, I heavily enjoyed that. There were some staff in that area however that were not so welcoming and a little rude. Didn't even say hello or ask us how we were when we up on the 2nd floor looking at the artwork.

Overall amazing stay

Quick check in and check out. I was granted early a check in as well so I got into my room an hour or two early which was great. Amazing service and were quick to bring any extra amenities to the room. The only downfall was one of the elevators being down, but it didnt impact the overall experience.

Chic hotel in Chicago

Hotel is chic and clean. Booked using All points as partial payment but full amount was kept on hold at check in. Good thing I inquired at check out and was corrected then. Will probably stay closer to the river where nice bars and restaurants are next time around.
