Great location, terrible room design

The location in Chicago is excellent, extremely convenient. The art gallery in the lower level was very cool. The room however was terrible. First, it was not fully cleaned, with dusty cobwebs on both lamps, and someone else's hair on the bathrobe in the bathroom. Moreover, the overall room design was absolutely terrible. The bathroom light switch is hidden behind the door, and was motion activated with no obvious way to turn it off. The light in the bathroom shone directly out on to one of the beds in the room. The room had no electrical outlets near the bed or bedside tables to easily facilitate device charging. The closet was a cabinet placed in an alcove that would have made an excellent closet itself, but instead was just wasted space. Additionally, that entire area was unlit, even though there was a light switch right next to it. The level of soundproofing in the room was virtually nonexistent, with both the street sounds outside and the sound of people in the hallway clearly penetrating the room. The bedding also felt extremely cheap. I do not plan to ever stay at another 21c hotel, and have already recommended that others avoid them.

I provided my credit card for the "hold" in in case of incidentals, on which they also charged me for the room, which had already been laid by my company. I had to be persistent to ensure the staff addressed the issue as they did not seem to be concerned about it.

Quirky ADA access room in a great hotel

The 21C is in a great location, the price was right, the room was modern and clean and the staff was really friendly and nice. It took me a day to realize that my quirky room was wheelchair friendly, with low switches, wide doors, a low bar in the closet, a mini ironing board, a folding seat in the shower and a wand instead of a traditional shower head.

Lobby is uninviting, stood at check-in desk while phones were being answered. Elevators are extremely small, dirty and very slow. When you get off the elevator it’s not easy to find your way around, the halls are very dark, everything looks old and worn down. My room was fine, nothing that impressed me, my TV channels wouldn’t come in. I called the front desk and made them aware of a VIP guest that would be arriving shortly and asked the gentleman I was speaking to if he could move this guest to an upgraded room, he agreed and confirmed it was done. I alerted this guest of the surprise she would have and when she checked in and got to her room it was not an upgraded room at all…the same basic room she originally had and was even smaller than mine. It was embarrassing to say the least and she was extremely disappointed. I have other examples of the lack of care and customer service that your employees showed to myself and my other guest.

Did not like light switch. Never cleaned my room or brought new towels. I stayed 4 nights. Could not eat breakfast because it did not open until 7am (too late). No coffee. Elevator kept breaking
