Really nice hotel. Beds were comfortable & the room was immaculate. Both people I dealt with on reception were very helpful & friendly. The only negative was that there's no on-site cafè/restaurant but the hotel is only a 5 minute walk to the heart of the city.

Located near the central bus exchange, and restaurants

Located (as the name suggests) opposite the legislative assembly, close to restaurants and shops (if shops are your thing). Extremely helpful reception staff, in particular, Catherine. My room was on the first floor, quite airy, king size bed, medium firmness, room had a 2 ring halogen hot plate, microwave, kettle and coffee machine. Good size wet room, strangely, only one set of eating utensils in the draws, and although we opted for room service (200 Accor points, if you don’t) towels changed, bed made but coffee cups not washed/replaced. Bus stops outside the hotel and you can walk, or get a bus to all the sights/attractions. 10-15 minutes to all of them, Australian war memorial, old/new parliament, art gallery, Queen Elizabeth Terrace Jetty etc… Despite being offered breakfast when we booked, the hotel does not have a restaurant, they will sell/include a voucher for the cafe opposite (Capital Grind). The offer on ‘All Accor’ was ‘A la Cart,’ whilst the breakfast was adequate, A la Cart, it wasn’t, for your voucher you can have a medium coffee and an item from the breakfast menu. Juice is extra, 3A$ if you swap it for the coffee, or market price. It is good value for the price the hotel charge and better than visiting the cafe as a fare paying punter. But, not A la Cart. There are lots of restaurants nearby, but I’d recommend making your decision early and making a reservation, otherwise you could be walking around for a while trying to find one that has vacancies, as we did. As said, 1st floor room, was subject to traffic and pedestrian (shouting/noisy) noise.

LOCATION IS ITS BEST FEATURE

The central location of the Sebel is its strong point as its within short taxi distances to many points of interest, walking distance to the massive Canberra Centre, cafes and restaurants otherwise it has little to distinguish it. All perfectly modern and clean but somewhat 'spartan'. No facilities to speak of and no customary hotel directory to tell you what is where, etc. Reception is not staffed at night so entry is via your room keycard and scanner. No breakfast facility and the little coffee shop in the corner of the building (not a Sebel venue) is hopeless. We ordered a simple chicken toastie on arrival to be told the chicken had to thaw out so it would be wait (we re-ordered). I had a mug for tea but my wife was told they'd run out of mugs so would a cup be OK? The place is small with only seating for around 10 and I counted just 7 mugs in use, so that was their total inventory. My wife's cup arrived as a paper takeaway. Forget it. But at least you can self-cater with a cooktop, microwave, etc. For those who care and those who'd rather not this hotel is 'dog friendly'. We spotted only one coming out of the lift and had no problematic encounters but frankly this is not a concept that excites. That said there's nothing wrong as such and the centrality is a winner but we find the 4 star rating a bit of a stretch.

Not so Accor Member friendly

The location is brilliant. The member welcome gift (a bottle of wine) has shrunk The "upgrade" was an Accessible Room; which was cold due to amount of floor tilling The presentation of certain items (e.g.- Hair Dryer bag) not up to Accor standard And the television channels need an overhaul... the remote did not work properly either.

The epitome of mediocrity

This is very average. While the accommodation is fine, little niggles add up to make this a frustrating experience. Things like no on-site parking (and parking at Canberra Centre being more expensive than advertised), the hotel restaurant/cocktail bar being closed meaning breakfast is just a voucher for a local cafe (Capital Grind), no USB charging, no bathroom storage among others. Meh…
