Rundown room & amenities

Very rundown hotel, mixed levels of service and my bathroom was in my bedroom! It may have been something back in the day but it is very rundown. My bathroom vanity was in the hallway (next to the bed). Bed was an old slat base and mattress very old. The exhaust in the bathroom was caked with dust & filth and so loud even with door closed. Carpets stained. Wood chipped. It's not worth the rates paid compared to other Canberra hotels I was refused service in the bar at 3pm for a drink saying only wine or beer when I wanted something else. That is bizarre As an ALL member no upgrades offered or any welcome bonuses or something. Little incentive to be a member

Regarding your experience in the bar, I apologise for any confusion or inconvenience caused. Our bar and restaurant open at 4pm, so service before this time is limited to wine and beer, which is in line with our current operating hours and licensing. I understand this may have been disappointing. As for the ALL membership benefits, these do vary according to status levels, and while ALL members receive certain privileges, room upgrades and other extras are generally offered to higher-tier members. We do value your loyalty and hope to provide a more rewarding experience in future stays. Thank you again for your feedback. Centrally located , busy and dated

An older hotel with generous sized rooms centrally located at Jolimont Centre where the long distance coaches depart as well as the terminal tram stop outside. Air crew and corporates all use this hotel. In my view this is where they don’t need to try. The room I got, 519 was meant to be an upgrade but in my view it isn’t as it faces the rubbish tip about 4am the trucks come and the noise will wake you up. The carpet has seen better days, the study table is no longer horizontal. I must however compliment the hotel for providing ample amount of hangers. If transport is not an issue I recommend staying elsewhere where you might meet a team that strives to make you feel welcome and appreciated. Buffet Breakfast at the First Edition for $35 is not worth the cost for the quality supplied. There are plenty of food options around.

The Novotel Canberra - Average Stay

Pretty ordinary hotel. The standard room we were allocated was spacious with a queen bed. The bathroom was a disabled bathroom which meant there’s a shower curtain instead of a screen to facilitate someone needing assistance. We unfortunately found the whole bathroom became flooded with every shower which meant we were having to either walk through the water or try to mop the water up with towels. Not ideal for able bodied people unfortunately. Breakfast is quite nice. The room we stayed in was quite shabby and definitely in need of an update. The people making up the room are excellent. The room was clean, tea and coffee replenished. The location is very good. That is the main plus for this hotel. On leaving I had a number of bags to move from our room downstairs. Unfortunately this hotel doesn’t have a porter. The front desk staff member told me to do it myself and get a trolley from the foyer. When I went down to the foyer I was attempting to try to manoeuvre a large trolley to the lifts when another staff member saw me trying to do and rushed to my aid. I was grateful as this whole process was not going well. The Novotel Canberra won’t be my hotel of choice for future business trips. It’s just okay. More like a motel than a hotel.

Very impressed with all aspects of the stay apart from the dated bathroom which needs some TLC. Highly recommend First Edition for meals and all staff were accommodating with my requests including providing a phone charger. Perfect central location with everything close by.

Novotel Canberra misses the mark…

Unfortunately we just didn’t love this hotel. We had booked through Luxury Escapes - sadly luxury is not a word I would associate with the hotel. It feels old, the breakfast was basic (hot cross buns were good however kept running out) & the queue to get into breakfast was waaaaaay too long and disorganized and the hostess too grumpy tbh. The shower wasn’t hot, no tea or coffee in the rooms and the bar closed early -about 9.30. To top it off we had a pre-paid package yet were somehow still charged for something on credit card that they have yet to explain. When checking out I queried this and was advised it was removed then received an email with an invoice and charge to my card. Please explain - no response as yet. Good location but there are plenty of good hotels close by in Canberra. We usually stay at the QT - but tried the Novotel as part of a LE deal. we won’t be back to the Novotel.
