We always choose to stay here whenever we visit. Have stayed about 5 times now - always a great experience. Rooms are spacious, clean, and include everything needed. Free parking is a bonus. There are restaurants/cafes close by. Staff are always very friendly, helpful and professional. A great place to stay as a base for day trips all over the north, and also easy access to Launceston attractions.

Room was nice, unfortunately the wait for Breakfast after we ordered was far to long.

tassietank TripAdvisor review

(TL/DR: It’s close-ish to the airport, great for tourists, handy for people with relatives in the hospital, so you’ll pay, stay and probably enjoy what Tassie has to offer regardless, BUT - you might stay somewhere else next time..) Over the years as we have regularly stayed, there has been a slow but steady decline in the amount and quality of services offered, definitely the attitude of staff (it looks like even Phil the fixer has gone) and just the general tidiness and upkeep of the place. For instance : the restaurant. Let’s close it for evening meals in the middle of the peak tourist season. What a brilliant idea. No mention of THAT was made while booking, it was just casually stated to my wife when she picked up the keys at reception on our arrival. So, we ate at a rival hotel’s restaurant which was full each night we went there. Breakfast was available though. Very small one page set menu, everything cost $31, regardless of whether it was bowl of muesli, eggs on toast or what amounted to a big breakfast. We went at 9am both days. On both occasions we had a 40-45 minute wait for our meals after ordering. The second time it happened we asked the waitress (Donna) what was going on? One chef was the answer - (probably with one burner going and one frypan, I’ll wager…) she apologised profusely and said “This isn’t right, We’ll make it right by offering a discount on your bill total, just remind them of this when you check out”- we DID just that - but it didn’t happen, the only discount we received was the $10 daily no room service discount. The tv in our room, a small 15 year old LG looked absolutely tiny hanging there on the wall, it was turned on when we got to the room, the reason soon became apparent - the remote was stuffed and the power on/off button didn’t work. Luckily, I found there was a master “off” button on the side of the tv set itself to shut it up finally. Only free to air stations available, even after a re-scan. A few “pay” channels like National Geo came up in the list but were just showing yellow or blue stripes like they were off frequency. Another channel was showing an Austar boot loading screen. Why? That company hasn’t even existed for over 13 years. The fridge definitely worked better with the cupboard door open, but still had to be wound right up just to keep a chill on our milk and juice, which meant it was cutting in and out most of the time, whirring, cracking and popping right next to the bed. Yay. Even little things in the room like the complimentary coffee sachets have gone from Moccona to Nescafé blend 43, (unless you like decaf, but they’re probably still old stock, since 85% of the world hates decaf…) The doona under the beds’ top sheet was torn to shreds, why was it even washed and re-used like that to begin with? It should have been chucked out then and there. We mentioned the tv and doona to reception when we checked out. After he asked if we enjoyed our stay, and following a VERY small apology, he proceeded to wave his arms about and admonish my wife “YOU should have told us about it straight away! Then we could have got room service to change it for you! We can do nothing about it once you have checked out!” Well, thanks for making us feel so welcome, big fella, don’t know if we can stand any more of this hospitality, I think we might stay somewhere else in future…. Most of this seems to be since Accor took over, but there MUST still be money in running hotels?, they opened another 77 world wide in the last quarter of 2025 alone…why the need to penny pinch? What have you got to say, Dougal?

Nice clean hotel with friendly staff. However when we arrived we were told that the restaurant was closed due to the Christmas break. I found that hard to believe as we were travelling during the holiday season, the time when people are more likely to be at the hotel.

Dear Geoff, Thank you very much for staying with us and for taking the time to provide your review. I'm pleased you enjoyed your stay, and our team will gladly receive your feedback. I am sorry that the restaurant dinner service wasn't available during your stay. With so many guests dining out during the holiday period, it is not viable for us to maintain the dinner service during this period. We look forward to reopening dinner on January 12th. Thanks again, and we hope to welcome you back to the Mantra Charles before too long. Kind regards, Dougal McConnell General Manager Ph: 03… do…
