We are currently halfway through a 6-night stay at the Savoy. The hotel has a lot of nice qualities; great central London location, nice staff, room service, and it's generally a nice/upscale place. Most of the reviews on Google, tripadvisor and elsewhere are positive. So we may have been unlucky. However, based on our experience we would not return. First, the hotel is currently undergoing many room renovations. Noise during the day is not too loud, but it is noticeable when I'm doing work from inside my room. or when trying to take a midday nap. The bigger annoyance came at around 2am a couple nights ago when I wanted to use the shower. I had a late night video meeting because of the time difference between the States and UK. Wanting to take a shower before settling into bed, I turned on the shower, but no water came out. I turned on the sink faucet and no water came out. So I called down to guest services and they informed me that the water was temporarily off due to them working on the pipes. I was tired so I went to bed and showered the next day. I'm sure most guests were sleeping at 2am, so it would not have disturbed them. But still, the hotel should have informed guests in advance that the water was going to be turned off (for any duration). Then I could have planned in advance. On a positive note, I did receive a call from Giovanni, part of the Savoy staff, the next afternoon gave me a call to apologize for the disruption in water availability. Things happen, and it wasn't too big of a deal (more of an annoyance). He also approached me today, in person, and apologized again for the water issue. He's a nice man and I accepted the apology. But the second grievance is a bigger deal. My wife, mother and I took this trip from Seattle Washington, all the way to London, England to honor my mother and her 84th birthday. She is in relatively good health. But at her age, and a 10 hour flight, this will probably be her last trip overseas. That's why we wanted to make this a very special and memorable trip, including staying at the world famous Savoy. I notified the hotel in advance that she is elderly and has limited mobility. I had requested adjoining rooms so I could be close to her and provide help whenever needed. Upon check in, we were given 2 rooms, both on the 4th floor. They are not adjoining, which I can get passed based on occupancy and availability. However, my mom's room is quite far from ours, and she had to access her room with 2 small sets of stairs. Even after using the elevator, you had to go down two sets of stairs. My wife and I could have switched rooms with her but everyone was so exhausted after our long journey, and the bags had been delivered to the rooms, so we all decided to make due. Still, you'd think the hotel would be more attentive and accommodating to provide rooms that are closer and not a room to an elderly woman who is required to climb some stairs. One more thing to note, the entry to my mom's room (463) has a slight, unpleasant odor. My third and final grievance is regarding afternoon tea. This happened yesterday evening. We had made reservations 2 months in advance of our stay for the famous Savoy Afternoon Tea. But when we arrived and checked in (on time), we were told it might be 5 or 10 minutes before our table was ready. However, it was a 30 minute wait and still our table wasn't ready. To add insult to injury, people who arrived after us, got seated right away. After waiting this amount of time and seeing others get seated, I became upset. We had to make it to a show and time was running out. So I had to cancel and we went to the show a bit hungry. I was told that some of the staff at The Gallery (where afternoon tea is served), called in sick. Again, things happen. How should a hotel respond to an issue like this? Why not deal with this situation with more attention and class to it's customers -- offer the people waiting for their table some sparkling wine or an amuse bouche (or something) to try to keep the paying customer happy, ask which parties have a show to get to, seat the elderly people as soon as possible, and MOST of all, don't seat guests who have just arrived prior to ones who have been waiting for 30 minutes. We have spent thousands of dollars/pounds on our 2 Luxury King Rooms, dining at the hotel's Savoy Grill, Restaurant 1890 and The River Restaurant. You'd think we'd get a better experience. I fear The Savoy is so popular today because of what it once was. But dollar for dollar, pound for pound, you can do better elsewhere, especially for an upscale hotel.

We visited The Savoy in January for my mother in laws 70th birthday. Upon checking in Giovanni was exceptional and made sure we had reservations in place for the evening, he showed us round and made us aware of all facilities. Our room was gorgeous and very comfortable. The hotel itself is beautiful and very regal. It really made the occasion perfect. We will definitely be returning and I cannot wait. The whole team at the savoy made our stay memorable. I would definitely recommend the savoy grill as well, the food there was outstanding.

Such a historic place. So close to everything in London. easy to walk around and see the sights. Lunch was good. staff in lunch area was so kind. front desk staff made the check in quick. BUT, the hallways were hard to navigate! Once we walked it a few times it was easier! Beautiful and not to modern, This is what Americans come there for is the history and don't want all the American modern touches.

Amazing weekend.

An amazing weekend stay at the Savoy. From the moment you arrive and are greeted by the door attendants you know you are in for an amazing experience. All of the staff at the hotel are extremely friendly and go out of their way to assist. We stayed in a lovely junior suite, it was so spacious. The bed was really comfortable, one of the best we have slept in. There were beautiful mince pies waiting for us and a stocked mini bar. Breakfast at the hotel is sublime, a real treat. One of the best we have had. The newly renovated Gallery restaurant is so elegant with a beautiful sky light and comfortable seating. The hotel was decadently decorated for Christmas.

First time staying at The Savoy and we were thoroughly impressed. Obviously it a luxury hotel steeped in history so you expect the hotel to be beautiful but beyond that the staff were friendly, helpful and very welcoming. The service was excellent. George on the concierge desk went the extra mile to help us enjoy the trip and his note congratulating us on our anniversary was obviously written specifically for us and very much appreciated. The staff are the face of the hotel and they’re an asset to it. Keep up the good work. I can’t fault the experience.
