After a weekend of unexpected travel hiccups, The Fairmont Dallas turned what could have been a frustrating holiday into an unforgettable experience. Over Easter weekend, I had two separate hotel bookings fall through due to serious AC issues — and in the middle of a particularly humid Dallas stretch, that’s a dealbreaker. What struck me most was how, despite Dallas hotels often sharing similar price points, the experiences they deliver are worlds apart. At one property, the staff fit the viral stereotype of “the employee who couldn’t care less if you lived or died” — indifferent, inattentive, and uninspired. But then I arrived at The Fairmont Dallas, and it was like stepping into a completely different world. The level of service here was, without exaggeration, unparalleled. I’ve stayed at respected, high-end hotels across the country, and yet the Fairmont’s staff raised the bar in ways I didn’t know were possible. Every interaction — from the valet and concierge to the front desk, the voice on the other end of the phone, and the team delivering breakfast — was defined by professionalism, genuine warmth, and an obvious mastery of hospitality. The Fairmont made it clear from the start that their goal wasn’t just to give you a place to stay — they aim to be the only hotel you think of when you travel.

Well located with issues

Well located but problems started when checking in. The reservation was split at desk when booked together. The hotel was over run by various groups over course of stay (Furrys, corporate conferences, family reunion, the worst of which was a teen volleyball tournament where they were camped out in the lobby with very little supervision, this made line for elevator almost 15 minutes long a couple of times. Elevator also stopped on every floor with no-one getting on or off. Room itself was fine, but worn down. Tears in carpet, torn lampshades and overall disrepair. Pool was both filthy and freezing cold. Gold Club food was nice, but service was bad on Saturday, they were trying to close an hour early for breakfast and took my beverages and plate away mid meal.

Great hotel - Needs just a little TLC

Great: Room in general, lobby, breakfast, staff friendliness, concierge, gym Needs work: Elevators both functional and refreshed (south tower), pool deck for sure - needs major power wash and paint. Poorly addressed: We reported twice that the AC in the bedroom of suite 1200 was not working, and it was not addressed during our stay. This created two uncomfortable nights of sleep. It should have been fixed, or we could have moved. Suggestion: Make it clearer prior to arrival what the "gold experience" is all about. We would have participated.
