Never Again!

Other than the room itself being comfortable, every other part of the experience was terrible. Chaos in the bar and restaurant, unhelpful and at times rude staff, general untidiness in public areas, no real system for accessing the spa and a general sense of having strayed onto the set of a ‘Carry On’ film. I could go on but let’s just leave it at that. No more Mercure Hotels for us.

We've been several times before and stayed in different apartments. Some of the apartments are better than others. The big attraction for us is the pool & the grounds. Both are fantastic. Can't wait for our next visit.

We had an enjoyable stay with some highlights and some downsides.Highlights included an excellent steak one evening, downsides were broken door fastenings to the exterior (less than secure), broken plumbing controls in 1 of our 2 rooms, curtains detaching from the curtain rails and a lack of EV chargers. The location would probably benefit from more signposts on the surrounding network of lanes. But staff friendly and helpful, prices reasonable and we are confident a refurbishment cannot be far away - so we'll probably stay again.

Stayed in Falcon apartment as spa weekend.5th -6th March 2022 The spa was wonderful, had some treatments and use of pool, etc. Initial thoughts on apartment we thought were good for a girly weekend. We did have a good weekend, but there were a few issues that cropped up during the time we were there: 1; We could not use tv as no signal or aerial. 2; Bathroom fan not working in twin room. 3: Heating not efficient, apartment constantly cold. One heater in lounge not working; 4; Water in shower cubicle off the lounge does not drain properly, resulting in overflowing shower tray. 4;Inadeqate kitchen utensils. Also no items to be able to wash up. eg washing up liquid, dishclothes. 5; the oven and grill, we could not get to work. This apartment is marketed for families and self catering so would expect a minimum of facilities to be able to cook breakfast., and wash up afterwards As part of our weekend we had afternoon tea, We were looking forward to this, and as one of our party has allergies of nuts and anything grape based, we made a point of informing them on being sitted.The supervisor we think, complained when we said we had groupon vouchers, saying they dont know why hotel still takes them as they lose money and cause more paperwork. On recieving food we noticed that the scones had sultanas in also pickle in cheese sandwich, there were nuts on some of the cakes. We called waitress over and asked if they could be changed for something else with out allergens in. Waitress looked blank and asked what is a sultana! We explained that it is dried grape! We asked her to find out from chef if they had plain scones. She went off, but we were waiting so long for her to come back that we had to call her over a second time.She finally offered to get some more sandwiches instead as she didnt think they had plain scones. While we were not happy with this result we had the extra sandwiches. Overall service was poor. food was mediocre. With allergies the staff need more training and a chef that knows where ingredients come from. If management could address this it would be great for future guests. We are glad that we ate out that evening at a local restaurant with service that was first class.

I would like to sincerely apologise for your disappointing experience here at Walton Hall. we do value all of our customers regardless of where their booking originates. We are always seeking to improve the service that we offer, therefore all feedback negative or positive we are grateful for. We have a young inexperienced team at the moment, we sincerely apologise you didn't receive the high standard of service expected on this occasion, we do hope that this will not deter you from returning to us.

WALTON HALL AND ALL OF THE STAFF ARE EXCEPTIONAL...special mention to ALL Reception Staff nothing was too much trouble especially Jack the youngest, bar staff, Events Manager who also did a night behind the Bar, she was great, restaurant servers and Management were great too, happy smiley and efficient Well, I stay in Hotels a lot, just come back from Barbados and Sandy Lane, followed by a week in Benidorm catching up on lost Covid Holidays! Then my house was attacked by three masked men with knives...so retreated to Walton Hall whilst being made safe, so it was vital i felt peace First I had three nights in an Apartment, in the STABLE block, highly recommended, two bedrooms upstairs and down, good kitchen, massive lounge, large bathroom, small Patio...everything you could want, great for our dog too with so much space Then I moved myself to a PRIVELIDGE ROOM for another three nights as my housekeeper went back to the house, huge bed super comfortable, balcony Thank You All Paul Warwickshire

There appeared to be staffing issues, but even so the place should not have looked this down and out. Lights not working and cobwebs, furniture that looked like it was from a charity shop. Our last stay on a 9 day holiday and it left us disappointed

Unfortunately, the global pandemic and Brexit had a big impact on our hotel and the entire industry; from the budgets that were supposed to be allocated for maintenance to the hospitality staff crisis. Well what a lovely stay in an enormous superior double room in the old part of the hotel. Breathtaking views lovely grounds. A pool just big enough to cool down after the higher temperatures than usual for September. The staff were all extremely helpful- and especially Emily at breakfast who showed empathy to all those she helped and nothing was too much trouble. With the Covid restrictions although not now in place- it is important to realise hotels can’t just magic staff out of a hat and I must say they coped extremely well in what is still considered Covid times. Amazing couple of nights away for 2 essential workers. Thank you!

Tired Hotel

Great location but found the hotel very tired, needing a lot of maintenance or revamp. The window frames need attention etc. There seemed to be a lack of staff, only one person on the bar. He was very pleasant but needed some help. The breakfast was very good, lots of choice.

I was so disappointed after they offered us a room that was smelling of dampness. The smell was extremely bad

I needed a weekend break with family they spoilt by offering a room that smelling bad of dampness. We called them and someone came with an air freshener imagine. They ended up giving us another room but the bedroom standards are so low

What Privelidge?

How can a room described as privilege be in the oldest part of the property and farthest away from the general amenities ie bar and restaurant as it possible to be. Having taken a car ride from reception to the old part of the property we then found that the room had not been serviced. Having reloaded our luggage into the car we returned to reception to join the queue of guests requesting room change quite possibly for the same reason as ourselves. Having accepted a downgrade we were given a room in the main block and from then on things where fine. I willask a lot more questions before using a Murcure hotel in the future.

I am sorry that you did not find your room to be located as you would have expected and thst the room you were allocated was not serviced. I am sure that this would have been reported at the time and is a simple case of human error for which a sincerely apologise. KInd regards Joanne

Hotel chosen as it was close for a family wedding. Problems from beginning of stay. Room booked not available (one bedroom apartment). Substitute cleanliness poor with door security problems. When room changed to booked apartment there was a pigeon nesting with young right outside front door and dive bombing exit. Moved again to ordinary room which was inadequate for our requirements and curtailed our booking by coming home after the wedding instead of staying another night. The Managers Jonny and Dale did their very best as did Sharon Wood the Operations Manager to sort out the problems. Sharon had only been in the position for 3 weeks. The hotel was very shabby and had a very uncared for appearance. Whilst the new part of the hotel and Walton Hall is showed on the website they do not show the outside of many of the older buildings which are in a poor state of repair and where the apartments are located.

Dear Maree, as you found the Hotel is situated across a sprawling estate and to capture this on a website is very difficult, there are just a selection of pictures on the site showing the modern hotel reception and a cross section of bedrooms to demostrate the diversity of Walton Hall Hotel. It is also in the heart of the warwickshire countryside and therefore shared by much wildlife which we respect and allow to live in harmony with the hotel. I am sorry that all of this lead to a disappointing stay however i am happy that the team were helpful. KInd regards Joanne

Disappointed with the menu

The spa was a excellent experience and the room was nice and clean but the food was disappointing, the menu was not what I expected from a 4 star hotel. The grounds were lovely and are good for walking.

We stayed at the Mercure Walton Hall Hotel for two nights, mid-week, on a bed, breakfast and dinner basis.The most striking thing about our visit was the courtesy, good humour and excellent service provided by all the staff that we encounted. Although, some compromises had been made due to the constraints imposed because of Covid-19, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and every effort was made to provide the best possible experience for guests.

Shower broken

Service in restaurant and bar was good, not great food, breakfast was awful, a packed lunch! Reception compensated us only 10% of the bill because none of us were able to shower. It was broken! Swimming pool was nice and warm but facilities very dated.

Should have gone to Premier Inn

I would not recommend staying until things are totally back to normal. We stayed 3nights and yes we were told that were some changes on cleaning routines however having requested a fan when we checked in and despite a second request I was told there was one at reception I could have, so had to fetch it myself. We requested clean towels for the next day, none were forthcoming so had to approach a cleaner that I was lucky enough to see and get some from her. Same thing for toilet rolls.Leisure facillities only the pool and gym were open with the pool limited to 13 people in hour slots , The pool is not the biggest so when I counted 16 it was time to get out. You can eat there but menu is VERY limited. We have stopped here about 8 years ago but taking Covid into account the standards has slipped immensly

I am sorry that you found this to be an inconvenience, we are currently working on how we can anticipate these needs and deliver the right things to the rooms before asked and without knowing what you have used. The aim is to not enter your room once it has been occupied to keep our team safe. All current changes to the standards are in place to ensure the safety of our guests and staff. The recommended capacity for our pool is 26, our local hotel policy has been to reduce that by 50% as it seemed to full. i am sorry it went over to 16 whilst you were in the pool efforts will be made to ensure the guests respect the rules in place at the moment. First post lockdown escape

I wasn't sure what to expect as we really hadn't been out even for meals since lockdown. I don't know why I worried everything felt so safe and organised, QR codes to scan for info everywhere. Social distancing everywhere and found guests all really respected the rules. The hotel is set is so much land that we ventured for walks and soaked ip the sun watching the world go by. Yes the menu was a bit limited but enough choice for a couple of days and how lovely was it to be looked after after months of cooking and cleaning! Well done team, we cant wait to return and thank you for looking after us!

Lovely location to relax

I came up for a cycling weekend with friends but also booked a room for my disabled mum to stay in as she had had a tough few weeks. The hotel could not have been more helpful and even let her stay in the hotel room and rest past check out time whilst I finished my cycling event The location is very peaceful in the middle of a large plot of land with nice views from the rooms. The rooms are quite basic but comfortable and clean The young italian lady on the front desk was so helpful and a real credit to the hotel

Apartment stay

Having booked an apartment for two adults and a child, it was disappointing to find only beds for two, this then meant a trip back to reception to arrange another bed. This then made it to late to use the pool as children not allowed in after 7 and not towel available if we could have. I then went to use the oven in the apartment to find no oven shelf or traps to cook with no knives for cooking. The apartment looked good but being an old building it was very noisy from the people above us. The hotel grounds were lovely to walk round, but a shame you can have afternoon tea or drinks in the old hotel build i

Thank you for your review, i am so sorry things were missing from your apartment. Unfortunately we are finding an increased trend in these items being stolen from the hotel. I am unsure as to why they had not been replaced and will investigate this with the head housekeeper. I am also sorry for the inconvenience of the missing bed, the team try to ensure that all additional beds are prepared prior to arrival however on occasion this information does not pull through from the booking sites, It is something we are working on finding a solution for. The old hall is used for private events now, although on occasion we do open up to public events, you may also stay in the beautiful rooms and are always welcome to have a walk around and investigate the rooms experiencing some of the wonderful history. This is in dire need of refurbishment both in decor and especially SERVICE. The service in the restaurant and Bar was shocking. Slow, wrong food orders and staff that could not speak English and I do not mean they had strong European accents I am saying they didn't understand me! The waitress could not write my food order and returned twice with items not available. The woman at the Bar did not understand when I asked for a Gin & Tonic???? Hardly a rare request. The furniture in my room was old and peeling. The leather chairs had lost all their leather and exposed the under-fabric. This is a luxury hotel & Spa and it is everything but luxury.

For a four star hotel cleanliness poor bugs in window sill past residents toys and dummy under the couch. No blinds at the window of bathroom just the holders left up... No bed for our child in the apartment after booked 2 adults and a child no bath towel for child. No bath robes... Menus in restaurant on pieces of tatty paper. Staff untrained. Cheese board cheddar and brie only no other choice... Vsop brandy served in a tumbler. When asked for a brandy glass was told we only have one...which was on the side in the bar.i could go on and on.
