Perfect spot for a relaxing overnight stay

Excellent hotel in lovely parkland and a beautiful setting. We had a room in the old Walton Hall part of the hotel and it was very nicely appointed. Easy checkin/checkout. We didn’t eat at the hotel but I have done so before and the food has always been good.

Great Value for Money

Great Value for Money All good. Large clean room with clean bathroom. Friendly staff. Receptionist called Gift was really helpful. Fabulous garden with lovely walks. Right by the river. Only thing is it’s not that easy to find. Nothing to do with the hotel. Well worth the drive along the grounds. Overall very good.

Impressive stay

I was very lucky and won a 2 night stay here with complimentary bed and breakfast, use of the spa facilities and afternoon tea with prosecco. On arrival Google maps brought us to a gate that was signposted to the hotel but had wooden posts which looked like you shouldn't really drive through but one had been knocked out of place and we couldn't find another entrance so came through which brought us up the drive to a stunning 16th century building. We parked the car and then found that the reception was right at the other end of the building. We made our way up to reception where we were checked in by a young lady with her belly button sticking out. I didn't find this lady very polite, I don't feel like she wanted to be there. We were given our room keys and a map and sent back out to walk back down to the old building. Entering the building, wow it was like walking into a church, a great piece of history with pictures of what I presume the previous occupants on the wall. We climb the stairs to our room (number 6) and we were so impressed. It was very grand and we definitely got that wow factor when we opened the door. An entrance room with chair and puff, a table with fridge. We were left complimentary bottles of water and cans of pop. The bathroom had a big sink and mirror and a huge stand alone bath in the middle of the room, follow it round in to another room where the toilet and separate double shower was. The best but about the bathroom had to be the heated floor! That was a luxury walking to the loo in the middle of the night! On to the bedroom, this was stunning you walk in the ceilings are so high and the Vue from this room is amazing. You stand next to the curtains in this room and it makes you look so small, they are huge! I certainly enjoyed opening them each morning to that Vue! A 4 poster bed, which was very comfortable (I'd of just liked thicker pillows, though there was an extra one in the wardrobe). There was a towel folded in to a swan when we arrived which was a nice touch with slippers and robes also included in the room for our stay. There was also a Nespresso machine and kettle in the room too which was nice though not enough milk left in the room (you could pick up extra at reception). There is an old fire place in this room and I did think it would have been lovely to be able to use the fire during our stay but understand why it's not in use. Also I would have been nice to be able to use to balcony if this could be made fit for purpose..the patio doors are very very drafty however the big thick curtains did help alot and there were electric radiators left in the room for our use to which kept the room nice and toasty. The only down side to the room was that the blinds on the bathroom window don't work so they stayed closed it would have been nice to get some natural light in there. Also there's lots of cracks on the walls however I'm sure this is to be expected in such an old building. When checking in I asked if we needed to book in for our afternoon tea and was told no it will be fine and just check with the restaurant. We checked with the restaurant that evening after our evening meal to which we were told 'just turn up' we turned up the next day explaing we had it included in our stay, we were told we weren't on the list but told to go in anyway. Our afternoon tea came out and we mentioned we should have prosecco included to which we were told 'no' I then had to produce my email to prove we did to which the we were then told 'FINE' (very rude) this was quickly then brought out but I would have thought we would have been booked in for this when checking in and it was abit embarrassing to then have to prove myself in the restaurant. We also used the spa during our stay. There was no one on reception when we arrived and another couple presumably tried of waiting walked out. There was a note on the desk saying we needed leisure passes if we had leisure access during our stay so we headed up to reception to get these to then be told we shouldn't need them. We head back to the spa where a young man is now there and gets us to sign in and gives us some towels. The changing rooms could do with some signs, I had to asks where the loos where and it wasn't quite clear which door was for the pool or the exit. The pool itself is quite chilly and shallow. We didn't stay in too long. Alot of people sat around the pool,no one actually in it and we couldnt use the sauna as it was full the whole time we were in there. I think it's missing a hot tub, maybe some music playing. The grounds are lovely we had a nice walk around a few times during our stay and we would definitely return. We recently stayed in a 5 star hotel in the lakes but this was more impressive by far! It would make a beautiful wedding venue for someone I could just imagine walking down the staircase in a wedding dress!
