Not on brand compared to other hotels. This is more Best Western than Mercure! No housekeeping between nights provided. Lights were out in my room and the corridors, they need to improve maintenance. They've half re-tiled the bathroom but left a grubby wall next to the bath with brown grouting. Orange mould and limescale blocking the shower head. According to website the car park is well lit, only 4 of about 30 lights were working. No lighting between car park and entrance which is an accident waiting to happen given the pot holes and trip hazards. Advertised as having a fitness centre and pool, neither of which have been open since the first lockdown I was told. These should be marked as closed on the website and nightly rates adjusted accordingly noting these facilities contribute to this supposedly being a 4* hotel. In summary, to stay as a Mercure brand, Accor need to show this hotel some love!

Bring a flashlight

Good average hotel although getting a little tired. I have stayed here many times over the past years however, you now need to bring a flashlight with you to get from the car park to the hotel. For the past three weeks or so there is no lighting in the car parking areas, none, it's pitch black, a definite health hazard.:(

Because our visit to Daventry was to spend two days at a family event nearby we did not use any of the Hotels facilities and services other than to room. Consequently this review is only in respect of the warm and efficient welcome we received at Reception and the bedroom/ensuite.

Attending a nearby wedding, my overnight stay at the Mercure Daventry was very pleasant. The room was clean and comfortable with excellent facilities. Breakfast buffet had plenty selection and food was good and well cooked.

Positives: Spacious, well decorated common areas and bedrooms. Good location and plenty of parking. Negatives: Very poor welcome by a totally uninterested member of staff; no smile and no greeting. On other occasions, the same male receptionist was more interested in the telephone than residents at the desk. For an unknown reason, the restaurant was closed for dinner, but open for breakfast. Dinner was, therefore, served in the small and dark bar area with a large television constantly on. Why was this I asked the receptionist; he was not sure but thought that it was because of ventilation problems in the restaurant. It was evident at breakfast that this was not the case. It was a very spacious area; much more so than the bar. Dinner was unfortunately marred by my first two orders for mains having to be sent back to the kitchen. The requested Ribeye steak was not cooked medium/rare and was well done. It was replaced by a Rump as there were no other Ribeyes (there were few diners!) which was undercooked and gristly. The Fish and Chips that followed was fine. Breakfast was okay, but service and choice had not yet caught up with ‘de -lockdown’. For example, there is no excuse for paper cups or cling film wrapped sliced bread, of poor quality. Most oddly, fried eggs were not available as they were ‘not yet allowed’. I had previously stayed in three other hotels where they were! The very helpful breakfast chef, who was the most customer oriented member of staff I met, cooked me a poached egg. Departure was well handled by a female receptionist, who did smile and corrected my bill where I had been charged for a steak and not fish. I have been staying at Accor hotels for over 30 years and this was one of the most disappointing stays ever.

Lovely hotel. Staff are great. Would of got a 5/5 if the actual restaurant was open for evening meals. Had some trouble with my room key on the last day but that was resolved quickly. Room was quite far away from reception/ restaurants so a bit of a trek with luggage.

Very Average hotel

We were a little disappointed with this hotel. Given its 4 star rating we expected a bit more. The rooms themselves were nice although our bathroom did have a really unpleasant smell coming from the sink trap. The rooms seem to have been refurbished but they have forgotten about the old skirting boards etc. On the way to our room there was a door with broken glass and it looked like it had been that way for a while, needs some maintenance. When we arrived it was dark and there were no lights when we turned into the hotel or in the carpark, it wasn't very welcoming.

Had a team of employees staying at the Mecure, Daventry for the past 4 months. The whole team at the hotel have been outstanding! Very professional, always polite and nothing is ever to much trouble even during these testing times. Can't thank the Hotel team enough for making us feel welcome and ensuring our stay was made safe and comfortable.

Stayed one night during our recent walking trip along the Grand Union Canal, the Hotel being ideally located for this being only 15 minutes off the route. It is in a quiet residential location about 3kms out from the centre of Daventry. Due to the COVID situation, there were many measures in place, but these were all well indicated and explained clearly at Reception during check-in. The Hotel is very clean and well appointed. Our room was very comfortable but the bathroom was looking a little "tired". At least we had a bath, an unusual occurance now-a-days, and after 30kms of walking in the rain all day, and with plenty of hot water, it was put to good use! Good service in the Bar with a restricted food menu. Bottled lager beer only due to COVID; a pity there was no bottled ale. Food was very good. Continental Breakfast was in the Restaurant was good with plenty of choice and a "hot butty" option

Comfortable stay

A pleasant comfortable room - a bit minimumlistic but that is subjective! Good hot shower with two shower heads. Reception gave us precisely the room location we had booked - well done - other hotels take note.

No upgrade available for gold membership, bathrooms tired and dingy, breakfast average, staff door opposite room which was banged all night and staff talking loudly outside rooms at 4am. Well below usual Mercure standard.

Wonderful stay and the Cider price has been rectified so it was a good week. The staff always try to look after the customers and the food is excellent. It is always a pity when the hotel is full and I cannot get a room and have to stay elsewhere.

This was a great place to stay at. The staff were wonderful food was good and i slept very well as I was put in a quiet part of the hotel I would definitely recommend a stay here The bar prices were reasonable as well with a pint coming in at just over £4

We were booked to stay 6 nights we left after 3. we have stayed at over 10 Mercure hotels over the years returning to many time after time but this did not meet up to any of there standards. The hotel was cold in places, there were not enough staff on to cope with 2 wedding parties and other guests over the days we were staying, if you asked any member of staff for help they always said they had to refer to someone else and never got back to you and reception just tried to ring someone who never answered and no one ever got back to you. Even worse the food at every meal was cold and totally inedible the first night I ended up eating 2 bread rolls, and people we met who were just there for the meal complained the next day and were given a full refund. On checking out I asked to see a print out of my bill but yet again said they could not do it but would forward it by e-mail and as with all requests for anything it was written on a scrape still waiting so don't know what I have paid for, just glad we spent very little so can only hope it was correct. What a wonderful wedding anniversary and New Year.

Stayed at this hotel several times and have not been disappointed. The room we had was clean and spacious. Since is was a Sunday night we stayed the hotel was quite and in the morning the cooked breakfast not a buffet type,but was the choice was good and plenty along with the usual non cooked breakfast options

Hotel was clean, and staff friendly and helpful. The room had a comfortable bed, good shower, TV. Hairdryer, iron and tea& coffee facilities. Breakfast was nice and had a good selection for full English, coffee machine.

Worst stay ever

Booked for leisure break with Mother who is disabled. Boiler had broke and was not notified, not even told when I booked in. Went back to room to shower and it got flooded, so mother couldn’t shower. Whole stay was a waste, because it was all about Mom using spa facilities because of her disability. Also it was to spend time with family locally. We had to change all plans because Mom didn’t want to be stuck in room. We might as well just stayed with family. Then breakfast next morning was early because of weekday and they took plates away while I was still eating, because they wanted to clear up. Complete waste of money and was offered £35 refund which I felt was a disgrace. I had stayed here before on a weekend and was happy. But this second time completely the opposite. Will never stay again, because all the could say was sorry, but will be working next week, what sort of answer is that. Very poor customer service and will loose a lot of my families business, because we all starting staying there when we are visiting family. All about knowing your clients and needs.

Please accept my apologies as I realise reading your feedback that several aspects of your stay impacted your experience negatively. Our leisure club boiler had to be replaced and as a result the wet areas of our leisure club had to be shut. We have worked as quickly as possible and a new boiler was installed within 10 days of the old one failing. Unfortunately, due to the loss in temperature of the pool, several additional days were needed to bring the poo back to the desired temperature. Whilst I fully appreciate that this would have impacted your stay, this was simply an unforeseen maintenance issue which was addressed in the fastest possible manner which saw the poo reopening within 14 days. Our maintenance team attended your room as soon as you reported it the flooding. It appeared that the shower heads was directed towards the bathroom door resulting in water being directed outside the shower. This problem was rectified immediately. Thank you once again for your feedback. I was disappointed that some maintenance issues spoiled your stay. We have reacted as quickly as possible to rectify the problem encountered but I appreciate that the pool closure, whilst outside our control, was an inconvenience to you. We stay here regularly when we travel to Daventry to see our son and his family. it is very convenient for us and we like it because it is spotlessly clean and has everything that we need.We have occasionally had breakfast there and this is good on days when the hotel is quiet but on occasions whe there has been a wedding on the Saturday or any other organised functions the hot food is not hot and also service is poor and quite manic.I was not going to mention this but you have forced me to writ over 200 letters so there you are both barrels.
