Most disappointing stay.

3rd October 2022 FAO Herman Muller. Good morning We returned home yesterday from a weekend with you and I am sorry to say it was far from a pleasant experience. This was a birthday present for my husband and I had requested if possible before our arrival a room with some kind of nice view. We checked in at 4pm on Friday, and we were greeted with a most horrendous stench in reception which was prevalent throughout the weekend. I gave our name and the lady was very pleasant but was having problems on the system so it took a little time. Eventually we were given the key to our room and I asked, Did it have a view at all. She didn’t know so asked another lady that appeared behind the desk. No … she replied, I said I had requested if possible a room with a view. So we went along to our room in the stables, we sadly were not impressed so retuned to reception and asked if we could have an alternative room please? Well it’ll be £30 a night and we have one available just here down the corridor and it has a balcony. So we looked at that and decided to upgrade. We unpacked and went into the bar to have a drink and wait for 4 of our friends that were joining us. Mark my husband went to the bar and ordered a glass of Sauvignon Blanc for me and a pint for himself. Sorry we don’t have any Sauvignon sir I’m sorry? Well what what white wine do you have? none sir, we have no white wine I’m afraid? This was Friday afternoon and not a drop of white wine to be had in such an establishment was simply ridiculous? So I had a glass of Prosecco, which sadly was flat. Our friends arrived and the ladies requested white wine, we explained and they too were equally shocked. The men decided to go to the supermarket to buy some white and asked if we could drink it in the bar? Yes the barman said. So this we did and the men had pints from the bar. We went to our room to shower and change for dinner. I went onto the balcony and the pictures below show what we found. We all met for dinner and we’re shown to our table. We made our selections for the lovely menu. For the waiter to return and a number of items were no longer available. We ordered our drinks and again not a bottle of white wine was to be found, despite the lady in reception stating that they did have some and showed me her list.once again the men went to bring our own. Well I’m sorry but I could go on here but I think you might get the gist that this experience was sadly one of our worst ever hotel stays to date. I am sorry to complain but I felt you should know hence my bringing this to your attention. There are a number of problems here that I feel need addressing to help other customers experience a much better stay than we had(and at an extra cost of £60 to add insult to upgrade) we feel very disgruntled. Once again I am sorry to complain, and wish you well. The hotel was noticeably understaffed. The lady that checked us out asked ‘was everything ok with your stay’ my husband told her and she clearly wasn’t a bit interested and cut him off saying .yes we have had some problems. I sent this on Sunday as soon as we arrived home and have had no reply at all. Kind regards Sue Ashley image.jpg

We had been meaning to stay here for quite some time as the hotel looked quite something and it’s in an area we love. The hotel itself is very nice. Nestled in delightful, picturesque grounds, gorgeous lake and roaming countryside it certainly lives up to its setting and billing. Check in was quick and hassle-free. The room was basic but clean and tidy with a small patio and car parking space right outside. The hotel, although quite large, very busy and popular with families and kids was surprisingly very quiet. We had a good nights sleep. We enjoyed the spa and swimming pool area. Again clean and quite modern. The pool is a little on the shallow side however if you fancy a proper swim. The restaurant/dining experience was however, sadly, an absolute disaster. It’s a big restaurant and in obviously letting in far too many diners at the same time, the waiting staff were clearly ill-equipped, ill-prepared and inexperienced to deal with demand. The waiting time for our food and drinks was atrocious. The food was average. The choice very limited. Our drinks were removed from our table twice and our desert simply failed to materialise. In fairness our complaints were handled immediately and very well by Sharon (restaurant manager) but there were far too many things that went wrong. Will we return? Yes to stay. No to eat.

Stayed for 1 night to "get away from it all" and left exhausted we paid close to £200 for one night we placed in the coach house the room was nice when we first looked high ceilings and lovely window however after being in there a little while we noticed it was very dirty, there was a boiler in our room which must have supplied the block with hot water which noisily refilled throughout the night , my partner hardly slept at all, the spa facilities were also dirty and reminded me of a average public swimming baths, the decking was mouldy, there were so many missing tiles in the pool , the gym equipment was unsafe the bench press not being fixed to the ground , dinner was not a great experience , staff were very friendly but the starter that came out was completely different to what was described in the menus and actually inedible when we told the waitress she just "oh sorry " and took it away , We have emailed the hotel manager Herman to tell him how disappointed we were , but he hasnt responded

Came here for an overnight stay & spa break. Upgraded to a privilege room in the newer part of the hotel it was clean bed not that comfortable you could feel the springs through the mattress. We had dinner in the evening staff were very attentive but as for the food we were not impressed. It was busy as they have a lot of coach parties stay there. The spa was nice the gentleman on reception was lovely and so helpful. Their was a water babies class just about to start to we had restricted access to the pool. The upstairs spa relaxation area was really lovely. The lady who did the treatments was amazing best facial & massage ever had. The grounds were beautiful really enjoyed our walks there.
