We have used the hotel for a number of years now for several group bookings. The hotel facilities, staff and management are great. Everyone is always happy to help and the service we receive is top class. The hotel is also very good value for money.

Dirty rooms

I think this may be the dirtiest hotel room I have ever had filthy bedding, curtains and bathrooms with a toilet that clearly hadn't been cleaned you would think it was a one off but sadly no we had various rooms and most of them were dirty reception didn't seam to be able to handle complaints and it took several attempts to clean the room to any sort of standard really appalling the least you can expect from a hotel is that it's clean and hygienic this was not the case.

Needs a revamp

Our room was clean but needed a complete revamp: - The air conditioning didn’t work, so the room was boiling - The curtains were ripped so we were woken by the sun very early - The bathroom door didn’t close properly - There was a broken sofa bed in the room - we weren’t using it as a bed, but as it was broken we couldn’t use it as a sofa either - There were lots of carpet moths in the room - The bins had no liners in, which felt unsanitary - The bed was very uncomfortable We addressed the issues with the team at reception who were apologetic. Unrelated to the issues - James and Ellie were very helpful and welcoming.

Amazing staff!

Sam,ashish,abi thank you for being so kind and compassionate when we turned up in a state! I was given a glass of water and a hug from abi.... the room was amazing nice size bath beds so comfy mercure is definitely a good hotel to stay in didn't have breakfast but it smelt good 🙂

Very disappointing this time

Disappointed overall. We have stayed here a few times now as a group of friends attending the races, albeit the last time was 2 years ago. It turns out that in that time, they have decided to start charging guests for using the pool facilities. £10 per person, per visit is a joke for a full paying guest! We had planned this stay around the fact that it has a pool and would allow us to have a relaxing afternoon but simply out of principle we refused to pay. This is the first hotel I’ve come across who charge for using their own facilities for staying guests. Breakfast on the first morning was absolutely shocking, never any food there. When the bacon arrived, there were no sausages or eggs, when the eggs arrived then no bacon etc etc. To get a full breakfast took me 20 minutes and by the time I could eat it all together it was cold. Yes, someone came around to apologise saying they were busier than usual - you know how many guests you have, you cater and staff accordingly!! Pros Close to Haydock racecourse Plenty of parking Large spacious rooms Courtyard Comfy beds Cons £10 pool use charge!!! Very dated property especially in the rooms and bathrooms Constantly waiting for breakfast Certain reception staff not really bothered (some good) Expensive for what we received on this occasion
