Pleasant and comfortable stay for a business trip. Located near the train station and a grocery store. Easy walk to Messe.

Great central location but not safe after dark

I prefer an apartment to a hotel over a few nights and so went for the apartments in Bremen for a conference. Its the standard layout, clean, staff are friendly and breakfast was good (best eggs ever) Unfortunately this location is not safe after dark. The street has a number of drug dealers operating on it, the station has a number of homeless people harrassing visitors and there are gangs on men hanging around after dark. There is no escaping this plain fact - just take a look. Until they clean up the area - best picking a different part of town

Well located

Good location but some shortcomings, probably due to stretched staff

A handy location for the main railway station and tram/bus interchange, but only 10-minute walk from the old town/town hall. I don’t know how old the hotel is but the fittings and fixtures seemed to be fairly new. There were a few small signs of damage in places like a chipped table top, but nothing major. I did however encounter some maintenance issues. The staff I interacted with were friendly, but I got the impression there might be staff shortage or/and not helped by having a fully booked hotel. My overall stay was not quite so smooth as I had hoped. Check-in was friendly, but a bit slow. I think this might be expected for an apartment type accommodation where people are staying for longer periods and check-in might be slightly more thorough. However, there were two desks but only one member of staff, so each time there was an unusual request or issue, it held up the queue. The person in front took a while to be processed as I think they seemed to have various queries. When I was being checked in for some reason there was two booking in my name. One of these I had previously cancelled (with email confirmation received) but it was still showing in the receptionist’s system as live. Perhaps overlooked because I had booked, cancelled and rebooked a few times as my scheduled changed. Resolving this causes the people behind me to wait a bit longer. When I got to my room, I found it in good condition on the surface. I liked that the windows could be opened fully and there was a work desk of sorts. I also appreciated the welcome gift of some fruits, presumably due to being a Gold Accor Member. However, the in-room safe was inoperative, presumably the batteries had run out. I tried to call reception for assistance, but I discovered the handset was not working. I managed to operate it using the speaker phone but after many rings there was no answer (reception was probably busy dealing with people checking-in). After doing some unpacking, I headed to reception, and found a different member of staff from when I had checked-in. I mentioned the safe and he said there was nothing he could do as he was only a receptionist…I thought this was an odd reply. He then said he would need to call the electrician…(a bit extreme for some AA batteries…). When I mentioned the telephone handset was not working the member of staff asked if I had checked the cable was secure. They could only apologise after I confirmed that I had check it. He mentioned that he normally worked next door (at the Ibis Budget) and was only called in temporarily, so I can understand that he wasn’t familiar with the processes and people, but ultimately the result was that the safe was not fixed nor the phone. I headed back to me room to have a nap, woke up later, and started to do some work from my laptop… just got going when the fire alarm rang…without a working safe I packed up my valuables and headed to the fire exits along with everyone else. Fortunately, it appeared to be a false alarm, and the fire evacuation seemed to run smoothly. I don’t recall the automated glass fire door in the corridor, near my room closing automatically though, but perhaps I mistook this in the blur. I was surprised that the fire alarm activation was never mentioned at all during my subsequent interactions, for example no reference to it at check-out. (Even though it may not have been the fault of the hotel, it would have been nice to acknowledge the disruption it caused). After all this I gave up on getting my work done. In the morning, I called reception using the speaker phone to enquire about an iron, when I was able to swiftly collect from reception. They had more than one, but don’t think they had lots so best to borrow the iron and board as soon as possible. Whilst at reception I was able to get a late check-out for 2pm (I had a business meeting from 1pm – 2pm in the hotel lobby). I was grateful for the offer, but slightly disappointed that as the hotel was fully booked I couldn’t get a later check-out (3pm or 3:30pm would have been preferred). Instead I packed up my gear and checked-out at 12:40pm (prior to my meeting), with my luggage kept in storage by the staff. It was good to have my luggage looked after. A bit of a shame I couldn’t go back to the room after my meeting (which eventually finished at 3pm) to change into some more comfortable clothing and shoes before heading to the airport (I also squeezed in had a very fast walk around town I my office shoes and carrying all my valuables). Two other things I noticed, yes it is good to have a proper desk, one is a bit short and in front of the TV, another is slightly deeper but when sat in the chair it obstructs the door between the bedroom and the kitchen. It was slightly cumbersome as a sole occupant of the room, and I suspect if there had been two people in the room it would have got annoying. In the shower, there was a bottle of body wash/shampoo. It was not in a holder, just placed on a soap grille. Unfortunately, this was not a flat surface, and after one use of the bottle, it toppled over, hit the shower floor one it’s base, which caused the plastic bottle to crack and open, and all the body wash/shampoo to drain out into the shower. Just as well I had brought my own, but quite a waste of a full bottle. Overall, I think the apartment hotel has promise, but could do better if it can get on top of its apparent staffing shortages which includes maintenance. The staff were all friendly and seem to want to do a good job, it just seems that there are not enough of them. Perhaps it was just a one-off on my visit (one-night stay), but based on my experience alone, I didn’t find it all that smooth and could have been more relaxing than it was. I would probably try the place again (for the right price) given the location and possible one-off nature of the issues faced as long as trip didn't require a busy work schedule. I would however judge the hotel more on a second visit. I was quite surprised by the high demand for rooms in such a small city too.

Dear Jamie B., Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We deeply regret that your stay did not go as smoothly as you had hoped. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the check-in queues and the maintenance issues with the safe and phone. We are sorry to hear that you felt disturbed by the staff shortages. Please rest assured that we take your feedback seriously and will work on improvements. We appreciate your kind words about the location and the staff. We are pleased that you valued the offer for a late check-out and the fruit as a Gold Accor member. We hope you will give us another chance in the future to show that we can meet your expectations. We would be delighted to welcome you back to our property soon! Warm regards, Your Aparthotel Adagio Bremen Team
