Convenient Location Near Paddington Station

For this trip to London, I wanted to try a hotel near Paddington Station, as I was planning to take the Heathrow Express. After some research, I found Mercure Hyde Park, which is just a block away from the station—a super convenient location, both for getting to/from the airport and exploring the city. While the location is great, I did feel that the area near Talbot Square felt a bit unsafe when returning to the hotel in the evenings. I later discovered a hallway that connects to Hotel Indigo’s lobby—a great shortcut if you want to avoid that entrance at night or don’t want to navigate the corner with luggage. My room had all the basics and was a decent size for me as a solo traveler, though it might feel tight for two people. The hallway leading to the room was narrow, but I assume that allowed for more spacious rooms. Despite being next to the lift, I wasn’t bothered by noise—only the occasional sound of other guests coming and going, but nothing from the lift itself. Nights were quiet and restful. The minibar beverages were complimentary, which was a lovely touch that added to the experience! Breakfast was fantastic! The variety of options and the additional mini-buffet (juice, fruit, yogurt, cold meats, etc.) were satisfying and a great way to start the day! The front desk team was friendly and accommodating, especially when I asked to have my bill split and emailed in two parts—they went the extra mile, which I appreciated for managing my expenses. I would stay here again if I’m traveling solo and want to be near Paddington. However, for families, I’d suggest considering other options, as the rooms can feel a bit tight.

We had a change in travel plans due to family issues in the USA and we had booked to stay for three nights but had to cancel our booking on the day we arrived. The hotel were incredibly helpful in helping us out by cancelling the booking and refunding us the funds minus a fee. I cannot thank them enough for their understanding.

Just ok, and quite noisy

While the hotel is in a decent location for Paddington station, it wasn't so good when the adjoining building had people begging sitting on the steps outside. Also when we returned from an evening at the theatre, we found a group of Uber bike delivery drivers congregating just outside. I made the reservation in June, and while I fully understand room requests cannot be guaranteed, I had requested twin beds away from the lift/ elevators. The first room we were allocated was next door to the lift, with its associated noise, very narrow corridors, guests entering or exiting the lifts were very loud, and we could hear everything. We were then offered a ground floor room right next to reception and the bar. Another room was offered on the top floor, directly opposite the lift, with its bells ringing a the doors opened and closed. All we wanted was a bit of peace and quiet. But I won't be using Mercure hotels again. Breakfast was served in the Bella Italia restaurant. It was OK but the coffee was undrinkable, and really the staff were not very friendly in there. Just lucky it was only for one night,

While this hotel has recently been refurbished, the rooms remain very noisy and you can hear everything happening in the hallway. very hard to get any rest we poor quality beds and pillows. location is great easy walking distance to Paddington station. Staff seem a little disinterested and none of my Accor Gold benefits were acknowledged or provided. When we check-out out at 9am a day earlier than booked. reception didn't seem interested as to why we might be leaving early and did not enquire to the reason for not staying our final night (paid for and non-refundable). they just check us out and sent us on our way.
