Mixed Experience at Novotel Hongqiao – Great Location but Major Shortcomings This hotel has an excellent location, right in the heart of the city. However, the property shows its age with somewhat dated decor and persistent issues like a lingering smoke smell in the corridors, which was noticeable throughout my stay. On the positive side, the bed was exceptionally comfortable – one of the best I've had in a while – and they thoughtfully provided 1.5 liters of complimentary drinking water each day, which was a nice touch. Unfortunately, the air conditioning was a major disappointment. It didn't cool the room at all, merely circulating warm air. I requested a room change, but the problem persisted, leaving me uncomfortable. They did propose a portable fan to help, I guess I wasn't the first to complain. WiFi was another low point: virtually non-existent bandwidth made it impossible to stream or work reliably. I ended up relying on my mobile data roaming for everything from emails to online research. The staff suggested it was due to my VPN usage, but switching to cellular data proved the hotel's connection was the real culprit – it worked flawlessly there. Breakfast was mediocre at best. The selection was average, but the croissants – a staple in any French hotel – were disappointingly dry and flavorless, which felt like a real letdown. Overall, while the location and bed redeem it somewhat, the maintenance issues and unreliable amenities dragged down the experience. I'd suggest it only for a short stay if you're prioritizing centrality over comfort. 2/5 stars.

Our F&B team will pay more attention to breakfast quality, especially croissant. Regarding WiFi, in accordance with national cybersecurity laws and regulations, access to overseas websites such as Google, Facebook, and Twitter is prohibited within the Chinese mainland, and VPN needs to be turned off before using the hotel WiFi. Great business hotel! Amazing staff and service. Lobby bar is great and serving good pastry and coffee. It’s was useful for me while I have early check in and the manager as Nicola helped me to proceed this quick with full explaination of the city information. The room is big and comfortable enough space for short business trip. Always staying in this hotel for exhibitions

Disappointing to Novotel standards

Having stayed at many Novotel’s I was disappointed to see the Premium lounge was still closed at this property. They are using the breakfast room as a lounge which is not ideal. Also the AC was broken so the room was too hot. When I asked for AC they offered to open the room window.

We stayed at the hotel for the second time because it is located close to the exhibition. There was construction work going on next to the hotel. Luckily we were given quiet rooms, there was no noise. The earplugs were provided as a compliment. From Pudong Airport, it takes 1.5 hours by metro, you can reduce it by 20 minutes if you take the super fast Maglev train. The metro station was a 15-minute walk away. The hotel is clean, all rooms are non-smoking. My room was huge, with a nice bathroom, comfortable bed. There was a kettle in the room, which is important for me, I really like drinking tea, tea/coffee is renewed daily, + two bottles of water. Breakfast was excellent, large selection of everything. You can also use the swimming pool free of charge. The hotel was decorated for New Year, there were Christmas trees, etc. The staff was friendly, but not everybody spoke English. There was no free shuttle to the exhibition like before! A very good option for a business trip!

Hotel is nice, staff is friendly. Even if not perfect English, they find a way to help. Lobby is nice, but bar closes too soon. Rooms big and spacious. Breakfast is big with many choices, from Asian to European. Hotel surroundings are currently a big construction site.
