Stayed 1 night night which was given as a gift. On entering the hotel the reception/bar area is impressive. It looks like it has potentially been refurbished recently and we were greeted warmly on arrival. We stayed in a classic room. The room was very clean and although the decor was dated it wasn't scruffy. The bathroom very clean but could do with a refurb. Dined at the restaurant for dinner. Food excellent and fairly priced drinks quite expensive though. All the staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful and we had a very enjoyable stay

Lovely Location, But Disappointing Stay

We recently stayed at the Mercure Fairfield Manor Hotel in York. The hotel is situated in a lovely location, surrounded by beautiful grounds, and offers plenty of parking. While there are positives to highlight, unfortunately, some significant issues detracted from our overall experience. The Room: Our room was spacious but poorly designed. The wardrobe was positioned right next to the door, making it difficult to enter or exit while holding the door open—this layout felt unnecessarily cramped. The bathroom was functional but in dire need of refurbishment. The taps were positioned too far back, making it challenging to wash hands comfortably. The shower worked, but it would be beneficial for the hotel to offer rooms with standalone showers, especially for younger guests who may prefer them. The biggest drawbacks, however, were related to lighting and comfort. We found a dirty towel in the room, which was disappointing. Additionally, a bright light from the A/C unit made sleeping difficult, as the unit was placed directly by the bed. Without the option to open a window or turn off the A/C light, I had a poor night's sleep, which is not what one hopes for on holiday. The gap under the door allowed light from the hallway to enter the room, forcing me to use the towel to block it. While the curtains were effective at blocking external light, these internal lighting issues overshadowed their usefulness. Breakfast: The breakfast was average at best. While the beans and fried eggs were acceptable, they were lukewarm from sitting under heat lamps. The bacon was undercooked, and there was limited variety. I considered a pastry but was disappointed to find only one lonely pastry in the basket, which I ultimately decided to leave. Overall Impression: At £120 per night, our stay was just okay, but I wouldn’t return to the Mercure Fairfield Manor Hotel in its current state. The property feels tired and dated, and it desperately needs a comprehensive overhaul to bring it up to modern standards. With some thoughtful updates to the rooms, facilities, and breakfast service, this hotel could reach its full potential given its fantastic location and grounds.

Great stay close enought to york centre

This was a gift from my daughter a 2 night stay and we had a great time the room was a good size ,bed comfy and huge tv and tea and coffee facilities great place to stay if your visiting york staff amazing cant do enough and nothings too much trouble Theres a bus stop outside the hotel on opposite side of the road takes you into york centre we went for xmas markets and werent dissapointed it was sooo christmassy and we visited the york minster and the living museum dressed as victorian xmas amazing

Great hotel, with bus stop just outside - saves driving into York

It's a few years since last visiting here, and it was great to see the main areas have new seating etc and modernised. The food in the restaurant was great and staff very helpful and friendly. It would be good to see some of the rooms modernised a little more, the room we were in (422) was lovely and spacious although a little noisy with the road traffic. Bus stop outside the hotel is ideal for nipping into York (rather than driving in, as it can be soo busy and parking a nightmare) so can recommend the 15 min trip via bus into the center.

Must have been great in 2010 but this is 2024

Like a "woman of a certain age" the initial impression is good but if to look closer you start to notice the imperfections. The rooms look great and the beds are comfortable but you start to notice the almost every piece of wood is worn where people have touched. This extends to the arms of the chairs in the restaurant and other places in the hotel. The restaurant would like to be "fine dining" and the prices reflect that, £17 for a burger, and although the staff are pleasant and efficient the food is average at best and at the price you can travel into York by Uber and get a better overall experience. Breakfast is OK which is all I can say. In a modern hotel I expect fast reliable wifi and free wifi is provided but it is neither fast nor reliable, in fact it proves the old saying "Everything free is worth every penny you spent on it". I would certainly be willing to pay extra for fast reliable wifi if it were available. According to reports roughly 10% of all cars are now electric but there isn't a single charging space on the car park. I'm not talking about 100KW DC chargers but 7KW AC chargers to charge a car overnight. When this hotel was new in 2010? it was probably excellent but it's now 2024 and the fabric of the building needs refurbishment and significant improvement in technology to bring it up to the 4 stars it aspires to.
