We recently stayed at this hotel and had a pleasant experience. The room was comfortable and the location convenient, making it a good base for exploring the area. What really made a difference during our stay was the service in the restaurant—especially thanks to Ewa. She was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. Her professionalism and friendly manner added a personal touch that made meals much more enjoyable. It’s rare to come across someone so naturally welcoming, and we wanted to take a moment to recognize that.

We stayed at the York Novotel over the May bank holiday weekend to attend a concert at the Barbican venue. The hotel is a lovely place to use for a visit to York. The reception staff were very helpful and courteous. The lifts are fast and clean. We were on the 4th floor but it was no inconvenience at all. We did not use the pool facilities. The reception area and bar are very bright and tastefully decorated, again the bar staff were very friendly. The bedroom was extremely comfortable, though we found the separate toilet and bathroom a slightly odd arrangement. There is no sink in the toilet so you need to head into the bathroom to wash your hands. The breakfast was exceptional, all the menu items we sampled were tasty and delicious. The Barbican centre is only a 5 minute walk from the hotel, and central York another 10 mins away. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed the Novotel experience and will definitely look out for the chain again.

Location is pretty good although I’d suggest saying it’s ’city centre’ is a stretch, it sits on the outskirts of the city with around a 5-10 minute walk to the main centre. Biggest disappointment was the £17/night parking fee even if you have a blue badge, I feel it’s harsh charging such a high fee for disabled drivers who often don’t have an option other than to arrive by car. Room cleanliness fine but carpets were quite badly stained and bathrooms looking a bit tired, could do with a refresh. Main annoyance was the AC was not working so the room became hot in the night. Breakfast was fine, usual selection of standard hot and cold buffet items, being a French chain it’s a shame there was only sliced cheese on offer though! Pool has been recently refurbed and is a lovely temperature, but be aware you need to book a slot to use it so make sure you book ahead of time around your schedule. I can understand why they do this to avoid it becoming overwhelmed but equally you’re unable to use it at a whim. Overall a pleasant stay, staff friendly, rooms need a bit of attention including ensuring AC operational

Extremely disappointed with the way bookings and the system is organised here (which is apparently a global Accor issue). I made a reservation, my credit card payment went through and although my booking did not appear in the "My Reservations" section of my account, when I went to search for my booking with my surname and date of stay, it suggested the booking was fine. I have discovered, a couple of weeks later, and less than 3 week until I travel that Accor cancelled my booking for no reason other than a "system issue" -- but were still happy to take my money (with, I assume, some notion that it'll be returned at some point in the future) -- and that they will not reinstate the booking UNLESS I rebook at a rate inflated by more than 50%. This is absolutely appalling behaviour, and a transparent money-grab. I recommend avoiding.
