I recently stayed on 19/12/24 - 20/12/24. I never normally complain about hotel stays, however I find our experience here very disappointing. When arriving at the hotel I requested for a quiet room as our dogs don’t like loud noises, to this we were put in room 117 which was fine until the night time. This is where the function room had a party, this was irritating as the music and noise was very loud and this caused us not been able to settle down for the night and also kept our dogs awake and barking. So we contacted the hotel desk and they moved us to another room in the hotel, this was a massive inconvenience as I specifically requested a quiet room twice and then to be moved mid night when we were in our pjs and unpacked all our belongings. We then got moved to room 224 this was on the opposite side of the hotel and this wasn’t much better either. This is because we were downgraded to this room as the bed was small and the head light above the bed caused me to bang my head serval times as this was faulty and placed in an inconvenient spot. (I have photos to prove this). When we went to room 224 I was again disappointed, the room was very outdated and creeky and when we were moving around and not that clean, the room was far too hot and had no fan in like the other room and also I had the window open but this room was right near the main road so again had the noise from the traffics going past on the main road. We really didn’t get a good night sleep at all. We also have x2 small dogs, this is a dog friendly hotel and I feel like our dogs weren’t catered for at all, I have stayed in other hotels cheaper than this and their catering for my dogs have been great. There wasn’t even a dog bowl or water in the room. We were having to drink from the bathroom for water as they were no places to get bottled water from. I paid £110 for this stay and am extremely disappointed considering I’ve stayed in much better hotels at a better price. For the price I paid and we didn’t even get breakfast included is also disappointing. This stay was meant to be for a special occasion and this occasion was ruined by this hotel! When complaining to the staff or felt like they simply did not care. I never give bad reviews only ever been good. I thought for the price this hotel was it would have been satisfying for me and my family, but we were anything but satisfied!

A group of us stayed for one night and we all said we’d come back again in a heartbeat (we were there for leisure, but we also discussed getting a larger group together for a business event). The hotel retains the charm of another era yet everything is in tip top modern condition, thanks to a refurb. The staff are helpful and friendly. Five stars to Deshpal on reception for excellent customer service. Ten minutes and a tenner in an Uber from York, the hotel is ideally placed. Also reasonably priced, with a good breakfast buffet. I’m more than happy to recommend.

Stayed 1 night night which was given as a gift. On entering the hotel the reception/bar area is impressive. It looks like it has potentially been refurbished recently and we were greeted warmly on arrival. We stayed in a classic room. The room was very clean and although the decor was dated it wasn't scruffy. The bathroom very clean but could do with a refurb. Dined at the restaurant for dinner. Food excellent and fairly priced drinks quite expensive though. All the staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful and we had a very enjoyable stay

Lovely Location, But Disappointing Stay

We recently stayed at the Mercure Fairfield Manor Hotel in York. The hotel is situated in a lovely location, surrounded by beautiful grounds, and offers plenty of parking. While there are positives to highlight, unfortunately, some significant issues detracted from our overall experience. The Room: Our room was spacious but poorly designed. The wardrobe was positioned right next to the door, making it difficult to enter or exit while holding the door open—this layout felt unnecessarily cramped. The bathroom was functional but in dire need of refurbishment. The taps were positioned too far back, making it challenging to wash hands comfortably. The shower worked, but it would be beneficial for the hotel to offer rooms with standalone showers, especially for younger guests who may prefer them. The biggest drawbacks, however, were related to lighting and comfort. We found a dirty towel in the room, which was disappointing. Additionally, a bright light from the A/C unit made sleeping difficult, as the unit was placed directly by the bed. Without the option to open a window or turn off the A/C light, I had a poor night's sleep, which is not what one hopes for on holiday. The gap under the door allowed light from the hallway to enter the room, forcing me to use the towel to block it. While the curtains were effective at blocking external light, these internal lighting issues overshadowed their usefulness. Breakfast: The breakfast was average at best. While the beans and fried eggs were acceptable, they were lukewarm from sitting under heat lamps. The bacon was undercooked, and there was limited variety. I considered a pastry but was disappointed to find only one lonely pastry in the basket, which I ultimately decided to leave. Overall Impression: At £120 per night, our stay was just okay, but I wouldn’t return to the Mercure Fairfield Manor Hotel in its current state. The property feels tired and dated, and it desperately needs a comprehensive overhaul to bring it up to modern standards. With some thoughtful updates to the rooms, facilities, and breakfast service, this hotel could reach its full potential given its fantastic location and grounds.

This was a gift from my daughter a 2 night stay and we had a great time the room was a good size ,bed comfy and huge tv and tea and coffee facilities great place to stay if your visiting york staff amazing cant do enough and nothings too much trouble Theres a bus stop outside the hotel on opposite side of the road takes you into york centre we went for xmas markets and werent dissapointed it was sooo christmassy and we visited the york minster and the living museum dressed as victorian xmas amazing
