Avoid Grand Mercure Hotel in Phuket! We had approximately 10 days at this hotel. We love Phuket and have been there many times as a newlywed couple, and also with our children. Our kids love Phuket, and Thailand is known for its hospitality and friendly people. However, this trip has made us decide to avoid Phuket as our primary destination in the future. We have stayed at many hotels but have never been treated this way by Grand Mercure. Hotels we’ve stayed at include Andaman Seaview at Karon Beach, Yama Hotel, Novotel, etc. After several hours of flying from Copenhagen to Phuket, we were asked to pay a deposit, which we have never been asked for before. We still have not received our deposit back, and we returned home on August 7, 2024; today is September 16, which means it has been 40 days. I doubt we will get it back. Isn't it illegal to withhold a deposit? We did not use anything from the minibar or any other hotel services, and we paid for everything we purchased at the hotel. Moving on to the service. We booked a room for 2 adults and 2 children, expecting two medium-sized beds, but we didn’t get that at all. The hotel was apparently overbooked, and despite contacting our booking agency, they were of no help. Here we were, after a 16-hour flight with 2 tired children, and the hotel looked at us as if we were fools. Instead of escalating the situation and doing what they could to satisfy four exhausted people, they chose to say "you get what you get," which did nothing to help the situation. We ended up with the room provided, and when we entered, we found that it was not properly prepared, and it was nearly midnight. A large bed for 2 adults and some cushions thrown on the floor, which they "expected" our children to sleep on, was completely unacceptable. We had to go down to the reception again and ask for an extra bed so they wouldn’t have to sleep on the floor. When we woke up, we saw our room infested with ants crawling up the walls. It was truly disgusting! A 5-star hotel should not have such issues; it is completely unacceptable! We informed the hotel that we wanted to change rooms, as we did not want to sleep where insects were crawling up and down the walls. We spoke with the manager, who arranged a new room for us, so thanks for that! The breakfast is nothing to rave about; it is quite mediocre. Overall, we do not recommend this hotel! Find something better, as there are many better options in Phuket. We may return to Phuket, but never here!

We had a great stay at this hotel. The staff – Mew, Aom, Aib, and Beer – were really friendly and took excellent care of us. The hotel is cheap and good, located close to all the amenities in Patong, but still quiet and peaceful. Parking is available too, which was very convenient. The only thing I would suggest improving is the lighting in the room, as it was a bit too dim for my liking. Overall, I had a pleasant experience and would recommend this hotel!
