Enjoyable stay with my 8 year old. Rooms small but cosy, reception staff lovely and a great breakfast with both menu and buffet choices. Great location for Paddington Station obviously and a short walk to the centre of London. Free mini-bar was much appreciated.

I’ll go into detail, but simply to say that there are a lot of other, better choices in Paddington. Go to them. No idea what this hotel did to get a 4-star rating, it’s at best a very mediocre 3-star. After a recent poor stay in another Mercure hotel I should have known; this is a brand with inconsistent and declining standards. Checkin: Checkin was like some sort of interrogation, needed to provide photo ID (why? I’m in my own country). Checkin lacked any warmth. I was told I was in a cosy room but my booking with Booking dot com was for a standard room, receptionist’s colleague said I was in a standard room; I bet I wasn’t and looking at the fire plan it was one of the smallest rooms on the floor. Tiny room: There was no bed side cabinet on one side, it was the top of the mini fridge. The room really was tiny and the had bigger bathrooms in car ferry cabins. It also was not clean, I am a short haired man, there was a plethora of long hair when getting out the shower next morning. Fire alarm went off three times before midnight, and then again at 4:22am. Took ages to get back to sleep worrying if it would go off again. Water temperature was fine, toiletries were filled and fine. A lot of noise from Tube line underneath. Breakfast is in Frankie & Benny’s next door: Previously you used to get table service, and a hot meal would be delivered to you. I went there off the street in September, it had mostly changed to a buffet but the main was still an order and had veggie breakfast. This time it was all buffet. No veggie sausages at all, no longer stocked they said because people didn’t ask for them. Most of the food in the chaffing dishes was cold. Took one bite out of the stale croissant. Checkout: Was asked for my room number, nothing else and no enquiry how my stay was; perhaps you’d know with fire alarm going off and just the overall experience of the hotel then why ask. I’d have given my feedback then but I doubt anyone interested.

We arrived at 10pm after travelling for 24 hours. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel was spotless and the bed very comfortable. A very good breakfast menu I would definitely stay here again. Perfectly situated for Paddington station, right opposite a McDonalds.

Super location beside Paddington station. Walk, tube, train ir bus to favourite destinations

Warm welcome, helpful staff including Claudiu. Basic breakfast but met needs and space and staff are welcoming in Benny’s restaurant. The option for stairs or lift is good for reducing congestion. Some guests might not like train rumble sounds from 1 st floor but we still slept soundly.

I had an amazing stay at the mercure made a lot easier by Witek who was front of house… he did not only help with transport but also gave us a lot of recommendations on what to do whilst in London! I would recommend the mercure to any friends and family thanks to Witek.
