This is my second review of Novotel London Blackfriars. I felt it was needed to commend and applaud the wonderful people working here who we feel went above and beyond to reassure us when we experienced issues with our cards. The front desk staff working during our stay (Rami, Peter, Panos) were all so acommodating and helpful in suggestions on how to manage the problem. We had some nice chats while waiting, and even though it took several days to resolve, there was never any time we felt they weren't doing what they could to help and assured us that things would work out just fine. So a BIG thank you goes out to them and we will of course return in the future.

We ate dinner at the hotel and the staff was very nice. Sanja, who served us, was exceptionally nice and helpful. It was a great experience.

Lovely stay

We have just returned from a lovely stay at this hotel. It is ideally placed with easy access to tube station and walking distance to main attractions. Room was spotlessly clean. Beds were the most comfortable I’ve slept in at a hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful. Only reason for 4 stars is that we had a few issues with the restaurant where we heard kitchen staff moaning about us as we had a few questions about the menu. Highlighted to the waiting staff and escalated to manager which was dealt with efficiently. I would absolutely stay here again but would choose to eat elsewhere next time.

Inflexible and disappointing service

I booked a day use room for my 7th wedding anniversary, as we couldn't commit to overnight accommodation due to childcare, with the central reservations team over the phone, and requested the possibility of a room with a balcony, as it was supposed to be a surprise for my husband. The lovely gentleman said that it shouldn't be a problem and would put the request on my booking and then signed me up for the Accor rewards scheme. Unfortunately, I didn't receive my reservation confirmation, so I contacted the front desk and was told by the receptionist that they never sell the balcony rooms for day use, which doesn't make much sense - working in hotels myself for over 20 years, and having dealt with day use rooms, all rooms are available for an additional charge as long as there is availability at the time. I was then informed by the Duty Manager, Katie, that this is something they never do, and she was happy to cancel the reservation, despite the discussion I'd had with central reservations. Not the response I was expecting, and extremely inflexible. It's one thing if the room actually wasn't available, but to be told that, regardless of availability and willingness to pay extra, they wouldn't offer it for day use is frankly disappointing.

Unfortunately, incorrect information was given to you by the central reservations team regarding the availability of our balcony rooms for day use. To clarify, the room type you requested is not available to book for day use — this applies across all booking channels, including directly with the hotel, on our website, and through central reservations. Please be advised that the room types available for day use are fixed and do not change based on additional payments or upgrades. Regardless of any willingness to pay extra, only the designated room categories are offered for day use, without exception. I understand you may have had a different experience at another hotel, but this is our policy here. I understand how disappointing this must have been, and I encourage you to contact the Accor central reservations team directly to share your concerns about the information you received. I will also be following up with them to ensure such misunderstandings are avoided in the future. As I mentioned during our conversation yesterday, I apologize that we were unable to accommodate your request, as it is not possible under our current policy; therefore, a cancellation was offered as an alternative. Went for Rememberance Sunday as hubby was marching in the parade. Excellent hotel. Clean, friendly had everything and more! The shower with the frosting glass was awesome!
