Lovely hotel. Had a brief stay here as we had to get up early for a tour the day afterwards. The staff are welcoming. The room was great and had a mini fridge, lovely shower and comfortable bed and a coffee machine. We were able to leave our cases in a luggage room and collect them later in the afternoon. The staff are so helpful.

The best hotel I've ever stayed in. The rooms are beautiful and spacious and the hotel is situated really close to the tube station. The beds are so comfortable and the fresh filtered water is a really nice addition. Everything is clean and it has all the amenities you could need. The service is also impeccable. Hands down the best hotel I've ever stayed in.

Not so good as it used to be

We have stayed at this hotel for 10-15 years as it is in a good location. Sadly, during this time it has steadily gone down market. We recently stayed for five nights in the smallest room we've ever had here. The designation 'superior' has clearly changed to mean a compact room with no seating area, just the bed. Small touches, like a box of tissues in the room, have gone. Years ago the breakfasts were wonderful, sourced from Borough Market. When that went you could still order specials, e.g. freshly cooked omlettes, eggs royale and so on. This has also gone, and the self-serve breakfast was decidedly unappealing by the fifth day. What a shame it is no longer a special place to stay. However, the staff are excellent and very friendly.

Regarding the room size, we would like to clarify that the size of the rooms has not changed over the past decade. However, we have refurbished all of our rooms with a more contemporary design and updated amenities. We’re sorry to hear that the room was smaller than expected for your liking. If you had brought this to the attention of our front desk, we would have been more than happy to assist you, as we had availability during your stay and could have explored other options to better meet your needs. As for breakfast, we understand your disappointment with the changes. The Mercure breakfast concept has evolved over the years, and while the current offering may differ from what you previously enjoyed, we are always looking for ways to enhance our guests' dining experience. We regret that it did not meet your expectations this time. Finally, I would like to clarify that during my time as General Manager—both 10 years ago and now—we have never sourced food from Borough Market for our breakfast service. It may have been a popular urban legend, but I assure you this was never the case. Once again, thank you for your feedback and for highlighting the positive aspects of our staff. Well appointed clean room. Pleasant surprise with Prosecco, balloon’s and a welcome card for wife’s birthday. Excellent breakfast. Helpful staff, made effort to get us parked at rear of hotel with high vehicle. Good communal areas with comfortable seating. Convenient for major attractions on the South Bank.

Rooms could use a refresh

The lobby was beautiful, but the rooms themselves could use some touch-ups. The paint by the window was peeling; the carpets have seen better days; and it's hard to keep velvet pristine. I stayed in a King room over looking construction. I actually didn't hear any construction noise as the soundproofing was pretty good. Even though I had a King bed, it was technically 2 singles pushed together which is not uncommon in Europe. There was a mini fridge, kettle, and Nespresso machine in the room as well as a safe. The front desk was friendly. I was able to store luggage after I checked out, but they don't allow you to eat outside food in the lobby. There are tons of restaurants nearby, but I liked that it was a quieter street than other areas of South Bank.
