Not the best stay

We have stayed at this hotel many times,but unfortunately this was not the best of experiences. I fully realize the problems with covid but one girl on reception and trying to serve in the bar meant many people waiting at reception to book in(some without face coverings). Our room was as always very clean and the staff are lovely but I feel they are under a lot of pressure.

Enjoyed our stay at Mercure Southamption Centre Dolphin and generally in this post Covid lockdown period everything had been done to conform to Government guidelines. However there are a few general observations - I think there could be an improvement in the breakfast arrangement which was very limited and didn't real meet my expectations for an Accor organisation. When a vast majority of restaurants can now provide a reasonable meal out and would consider this a failing at the Dolphin. On a more positive note the staff were friendly and helpful. My last comments, which is not Covid related, I think better warning about accessing the car park could have been made when I booked the hotel and the hot water in our room was only mildly warm at any time.

Badly in need of a refurbishment. Holes in doors, loose door handles, peeling paint the list goes on. No phone, only 1 set of towels, no shower gel , no hook on the door for dressing gown, couldn't shut the wardrobe doors maids coming in even though I put the do not disturb on. I've stayed in all of Accors hotels in Southampton and this was the worst by far would not recommend.

Room had no phone, air conditioning, body wash, hair dryer. Rooms are clean but old, (other facilities within the hotel are not well maintained). Water from tap had really bad smell. Room service entered the room without knocking at the door (while I was getting Changed). Informed the front desk about this and they said they will speak to the staff but no apologies.

Second time in this hotel and likely last. First time was ok and thought the little quirks were just that. Alas, this time it was worse. While I specifically asked for a quiet room (booked many weeks in advance), I get the room right next to the elevator! How can anyone think that's quite, beats me. The only other available room was "by the lane", which was deemed to be worse, so no choice left. As expected, it was noisy, with the elevator bing and voice all the time, the hard steps, bags, and the commotion usually taking place around the elevator. Room was actually more of a junior suite and had the bed been placed in the second room, it would've been likely very quiet. Unfortunately, it was right next to the (very thin) entrance door and a few meters only from the elevator noise. Furthermore, the bathroom window was open by about 3 inches. I advised the front desk after the first night, nothing was done. Otherwise the breakfast is good and sleep quality could be good, if one could get some decent sleep.

So disappointed in our stay at the Mercure Dolphin Southampton. We had booked 5 days while we were in town for appointments. During our stay we had multiple instances were things were forgotten and hotel management blamed us. Further over the course of 3 days, we experienced over 7 fire alarms, during early hours, the evening, and night hours. When I approached management about the disturbances and how it had affected the our stay and appointments, costing us time and money, they basically ignored our frustration going so far as blaming other guests instead of taking responsibility. The manager was incredibly rude and aggressive and told us there was nothing he could do. When I then asked to cancel the last two nights as I no longer felt comfortable or safe in the hotel, he flat out refused to offer a refund for those two nights and that we would need to deal. I have never experienced such poor customer service and a complete lack of effort in trying to rectify a situation. Do not expect anything from staff.

For a Privilege room we though that the Adonia was very small. Having said that it was fairly quiet. Location close to the city centre was good and close to a wide range of facilities and shops. Overall okay but disappointed in the size of the room.

The staff and food were great. Room was clean, but dark and very bare. The bedside lights were wonky and the carpets need renewing and a brighter decor would do wonders. There were some hideous modern chairs in reception that looked very out of place, and there were two breakfast trays with leftover food on the plates on the floor outside a room when we arrived at 12-ish and they were still there when we went out a couple of hours later. Very helpful staff and good easy parking

Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly face and an efficient check-in. Located nicely in the center giving easy reach to the Train station, shops and Cruise/Ferry Terminals. The building has excellent character but unfortunately is in urgent need of a complete face-lift although there was evidence of some work being carried on behind the scene in the restaurant. The breakfast was both tasty and a nice display.

A comfortable night's stay before embarking on a cruise ship in Southampton port. The Dolphin has a fair sized car park and is ideally situated five minutes stroll from the city centre shops, restaurants and cinemas. Bedroom décor is plain and simple. Being a historic hotel, the corridors all have some steps to negotiate.

Room 204 at the rear of the hotel so no road noise. Large bedroom and a very large separate living area. Good bar staff and a breakfast (buffet) to start your day. Caring dining room and reception team.

Stayed at this hotel many times in the past. During a previous visit we did have some issues, but these were resolved to our satisfaction, which is why happy to stay here again. Everything was fine this time & although we had what seemed like quite a small room, it was at the rear of the hotel, so away from the Christmas parties, which worked out well. Staff very friendly & helpful as usual. Great location for the city & would recommend.

This hotel has deteriorated over the several years using this hotel. The accommodation is well below expected standard. Bathroom are old with chipped enamel baths and stained toilets. Wood and paintwork chipped and stained. Ideal for city centre and parking but little else to recommend.

A nice hotel but be aware rooms in the annex on the ground floor are noisy and the hotel supplies earplugs. That said the noise did not keep us awake. The shower head was quite dirty but other than that the room was clean and the beds were comfy. Kim

My worst Mercure yet

As a rule I stay in Mercure hotels when away on business and this was easily the worst one yet. Just finding the car park is a trial in itself, but it is clear that the hotel already know this so it is hard to understand that clear directions aren't provided at the time of booking. As for the room, I know I went for the cheapest option but thi swas without doubt one of the worst rooms I have stayed in, with a stained carpet and very tired fittings and shabby paintwork. As a whole the hotel needs a comp[lete redecoration in my estimation.

Carpet stained, toilet far too small, shower too small, room freezing, noisy cleaners trolleys outside in the morning, curtain badly fitted, lack of plug sockets. huge disappointment and very uncomfortable.

The toilets in all our rooms are of a standard size, we also offer shower cubicles in a selection of our rooms and these are also of a standard size, I apologise if you found them to be small. Due to our historic heritage we are not like modern hotels with plug sockets right next to the bed, they are located alongside the desk/dressing table in the rooms. This is the 3rd time we have been here and as a gold card member we were upgraded to a very spacious room on the 1st floor. We enjoyed our stay again. The staff were polite and helpful. Would have had a star if they stopped charging car parking for guests.

This is my first stay in The Dolphin and I wasn't disappointed. With being on a busy thoroughfare, I requested a quiet room and the hotel duly obliged. The room was homely and welcoming and spotlessly clean. The bar and dining room areas are very good and the buffet style breakfast was spot on. All staff were pleasant and courteous and I will definitely be using this hotel again on my next visit to Southampton in a few weeks time.

Only stayed one sunday night but we enjoyed the history of somewhere that was first mentioned before 1650.Today a modern hotel inside with much old building observable. We had an upgrade into a suite which was a large bedroom plus a separate lounge, dressing gowns and slippers. Thje receptionist was exceptional, explaining everything to us, and all the staff were very friendly and efficient. Evening meal was quite acceptable at 4 * prices though, breakfast good with usual range of dishes but there were no coissants or danish pastries. Located right in the centre of town with shopping centre close by. Parking is available at the back of the hotel. I would stay there again.
