We had made an online request for possible paid room upgrade. The front desk person was pleased to inform us we could choose between our original room and an upgraded one that he repeatedly told us was “free”. The final bill included a charge for upgrading for each of two nights. In a similar way, no staff at breakfast thought to tell us that the charge for breakfast was less if on only had a “continental” buffet. The bedroom A/C worked well and the bed and bedding were comfortable. However, we did not like the shower being partly visible from within the main room; and the carpeting was a horrible, headache inducing houndstooth pattern. Those aspects and no USB points suggested a place where style trumped substance ply the style was out of date. But the two Concierge staff who helped us were superb

I’m glad to hear that you found the bedroom air conditioning satisfactory and that the bed and bedding provided comfort during your stay. However, I regret to learn that the shower design and carpeting did not meet your expectations. Good base to explore Luxembourg

We enjoyed our stay at the Sofitel in Luxembourg. Our room was very big and really well laid out with lots of counter space in the bathroom and a huge comfy bed. The reception area looks slightly dated and we didn’t have chance to try any of the bars or restaurants. The paid parking underneath the hotel worked well and the location worked brilliantly for us. A short walk into the centre of the city but also as the hotel is slightly outside of the main city area, it was very easy for us to leave in the car to explore other parts of Luxembourg.

Disappointing Stay

We travel frequently and often stay at Sofitel hotels which we normally adore. However, this stay was disappointing, and we won’t return. To start with the positives, the breakfast area is lovely and the buffet is very nice, the shower pressure is great, and the bed was super comfortable. Here are the challenges we faced: The room we booked was not what we received. We booked a room with exceptional views, and we received a room with a view of parked cars, a road, and trees. Please see the attached pictures of what we booked and what we got. The toilet in our room leaked the entire time we were there meaning the floor was wet for our entire stay. Overall the service wasn’t what one expects at a hotel of this caliber: We waited 10 minutes to check in even though a woman was free at the preferred status desk. She refused to help us although we do have status. The service in the bar was so bad we had to repeatedly stand and wave to get any service. We were served stale pretzels too. At check out, we were promised a follow-up as the representative there didn’t have the authority to resolve any challenges. We haven’t received any follow-up from the hotel unfortunately. And this is a minor point but goes along with the overall stay. Because of our status we often receive welcome gifts so we have experience with what is normally provided. The awkward looking, messy plate of stuff we received was so not something that would make one feel welcomed to a hotel. I would’ve preferred nothing honestly.

Great hotel and service

We were welcomed with a smile as well as an upgrade. Lovely hotel room and the dogs loved it too. Stayed in a Classic King Room with a view of the old town. Room was spacious with a big tv, shower cubicle (next to the bed area so no privacy) and some free drinks from the fridge. The bedding didn't look well made up as it was bunched up in the middle. Turns out that there was an outward slant of the bed. The concierge was very helpful in getting us a last minute dinner booking and his recommendation was very good. Breakfast was good (choice at breakfast of waffles, toast and egg made to order). Our only issue was that it wasn't easy to get someone to take our coffee order, when certain food ran out it took a while to replace it and it wasn't clear whether we could book food from the menu as part of our inclusive breakfast. 5 minutes walk to the old town and near the train station as well. Overall, service at the hotel was amazing.
